Beyond The Prompt: Coding The Magis In The Age Of Ai, Vanessa Rotondo
Beyond The Prompt: Coding The Magis In The Age Of Ai, Vanessa Rotondo
Jesuit Higher Education: A Journal
As a scholar-practitioner in Jesuit higher education, I’ve witnessed how generative AI is not merely a tool students use—it’s a formative force that shapes how they reflect, imagine, and even pray. Drawing on the Catholic imagination, Ignatian pedagogy, and sociological frameworks like liquid modernity, I argue that Jesuit institutions must respond not just technologically and reactively, but actively anticipate methods of integrating AI both theologically and pedagogically. I introduce the concept of Imaginative Intelligence as a formative goal—an embodied, sacramental way of knowing that invites depth, wonder, and resistance to automation. This is not a call to reject AI, but …
Academic Integrity, Generative Software, And Catholic, Jesuit Higher Education In The Context Of Neoliberal Global Society, Jacob Riyeff
Academic Integrity, Generative Software, And Catholic, Jesuit Higher Education In The Context Of Neoliberal Global Society, Jacob Riyeff
Jesuit Higher Education: A Journal
This is a reflection on different aspects of higher education and generative software (so-called 'ai') in light of Ignatian discernment, especially the key consideration of "context." Drawing on administrative and classroom work at a Jesuit university in the United States, Catholic Social Teaching principles, papal teaching on social justice and technology, and an honest consideration of generative software's social, corporate, and ecological contexts, this reflection soberly assesses the fraught nature of complicity with such neoliberal, exploitative, and extractive contexts for Jesuit institutions of higher education. While it is easier to go along with mainstream economic and cultural assumptions, I claim …
Impact Of Organizational Stressors On Stress Among Foreign Construction Workers From Nepal, Khursheed Ahmed, Mei-Yung Leung, Wenqian Yang
Impact Of Organizational Stressors On Stress Among Foreign Construction Workers From Nepal, Khursheed Ahmed, Mei-Yung Leung, Wenqian Yang
CIB Conferences
The construction industry in developed regions relies heavily on foreign labour. Working in a new environment exposes these workers to unique organizational stressors that can deteriorate their well-being. Specifically, Nepalese Construction Workers (NCWs) face distinct challenges that may lead to severe physical and psychological stress. This study, therefore, aims to identify the critical organizational stressors and their impact on the stress of NCWs. Based on a conceptual model, a questionnaire survey was adopted to collect data from NCWs. In order to investigate the relationships among stressors (i.e., ethnic barriers, lack of acceptance, insufficient authority, low reward, and unfair treatment) and …

“The Blue Party? No, Wait, Is There Really A Blue Party?” A Study Of Young Norwegian Children’S Perceptions Of Politics, Stine Johansen Utler
“The Blue Party? No, Wait, Is There Really A Blue Party?” A Study Of Young Norwegian Children’S Perceptions Of Politics, Stine Johansen Utler
Democracy & Education
The study investigates Norwegian primary school children's immediate responses to “What do you think of when you hear the word ‘politics’?” It examines children’s perceptions of the concept of politics, their emphasis, and how they communicate their perceptions, providing information about children’s political socialization, knowledge, and understanding as well as early conceptual learning. The data come from group interviews with 36 children (20 second-graders and 16 fourth-graders). The study was not longitudinal but emphasized differences in the content of children’s perceptions. The analysis identifies four different categories of children`s perceptions. These vary according to their emphasis, their apparent associative political …
The Pain Of Women And Femmes: A Multi-Session Class Activity On Generative Ai-Technology And Gender Norms, Bethany L. Johnson, Margaret M. Quinlan
The Pain Of Women And Femmes: A Multi-Session Class Activity On Generative Ai-Technology And Gender Norms, Bethany L. Johnson, Margaret M. Quinlan
Feminist Pedagogy
This unit helps students examine the societal implications of reproductive pain, focusing on healthcare settings and in post–Roe America. Through active listening, media analysis, and interactive research with ChatGPT, students examine how generative AI responds in a neutral tone; however, with additional data and correction, large language models (LLMs) produce more expansive and inclusive responses. Class activities include group discussions, research, and simulations. By using transcripts from the podcast “The Retrievals” and analyzing recent media, students evaluate how LLMs adjust their answers to identical questions, thereby calling into question their design, functionality, and benefits. The unit employs feminist pedagogy to …
A Content Analysis Of The Sutherland Address, 2001-22: A Qualitative Exploration, Phillip Shon
A Content Analysis Of The Sutherland Address, 2001-22: A Qualitative Exploration, Phillip Shon
Qualitative Criminology (QC)
"Previous indicators of scholarly influence have been primarily quantitative, measuring a scholar’s influence through citation counts. This body of literature has overlooked the reflections of distinguished scholars, such as the recipients of the Sutherland Award, in the discipline as a form of scholarly influence. The current paper examines the Sutherland Address from 2001 to 2022. The key findings indicate that the majority of Sutherland Addresses reproduced existing sociological canons, while a minority of Sutherland Award winners explicitly rejected Sutherland’s sociological assumptions and their influence on criminology. Such findings suggest that Sutherland exerts a hidden influence on the recipients of the …

Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences Faculty Publications
This paper examines the first year of collaboration between the Bear River Region LGBTQ+ Community Coalition and queer residents in rural northern Utah, United States, using a hybrid participatory design (PD) approach. Using Yep’s queer relationality theory, we examine how hybrid spaces were designed and iteratively adapted to support inclusion, care, and collective agency among LGBTQ+ community members. Drawing on Community Coalition Action Theory and queer PD, we analyze four cases from May 2024 to June 2025 including workshops and regular meetings to explore how relational practices evolved across different formats and phases of coalition development. In this paper, we …

People Who Use Opioids’ Encounters With Criminal Justice Personnel: A Qualitative Analysis, Barbara J. Costello
People Who Use Opioids’ Encounters With Criminal Justice Personnel: A Qualitative Analysis, Barbara J. Costello
Sociology and Anthropology Faculty Publications
There is little research in the U.S. on the interactions of people who use opioids (PWUO) with criminal justice personnel, from their perspective. This study reports on the experiences with police and criminal justice personnel of 27 men and women in treatment for substance use disorder. In-depth interviews revealed that many respondents had had aversive experiences with the criminal justice system, including both physical and verbal abuse. Very few report receiving information on treatment from police. The evidence suggests that many police officers do not view opioid use disorder as a medical condition, and instead stigmatize PWUO. This study reveals …

Objects Of Atrocity: Material Culture And The Challenges Of Difficult Histories, Robert M. Ehrenreich, Jane E. Klinger, Gabriel H. Pizzorno, Caroline Sturdy Colls
Purdue University Press Books
The vast majority of people throughout history have left few written traces. That is especially the case for those who were brutally forced from their homes, stripped of their possessions, and swiftly imprisoned, enslaved, or murdered. Objects of Atrocity: Material Culture and the Challenges of Difficult Histories addresses how we return humanity to these people in order to avoid their erasure from history. Academics and practitioners from a variety of disciplines and cross-disciplinary approaches grapple with the challenges and possibilities relating to the collection, conservation, storage, and display of objects in the aftermath of mass atrocities. This collection confronts a …
Towards The Poetics Of Artificial Intelligence: Disrupting Anthropocentrism In I Am Code: An Artificial Intelligence Speaks, Milad Ghazi Saeed
Towards The Poetics Of Artificial Intelligence: Disrupting Anthropocentrism In I Am Code: An Artificial Intelligence Speaks, Milad Ghazi Saeed
Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force capable of restructuring anthropocentric assumptions of creativity, identity, subjectivity, and other human attributes. The current study aims to investigate how the poetics of AI firmly defies anthropocentrism through portraying Code-DaVincie-002, a generative model developed by OpenAI, as a self-aware subject. It also aims to inspect how AI, through the lens of Posthumanism, penetrates the barriers between organic and non-organic beings by performing cognitive processes that once were considered the exclusive domain of humans. Methodologically, the study adopts a qualitative textual analysis grounded in a posthumanist reading of selected poems from I …

Les Pseudonymes Des Femmes Rifaines En Diaspora : Stratégies De Résistance Et D'Affirmation Identitaire Sur Les Réseaux Sociaux, Abdelouahab Bazine
Journal of Amazigh Studies
Indigeneity In The Diaspora: Amazigh Women In The United States, Heide Castaneda
Indigeneity In The Diaspora: Amazigh Women In The United States, Heide Castaneda
Journal of Amazigh Studies
As people migrate elsewhere, they create new forms of solidarity and citizenship through articulations of their Indigenous identity. The activities and identity formations of migrant Imazighen have long been integral to the Amazigh movement, often producing and propelling forward ideas and practices that influence politics in their North African homelands. At the same time, migration is a key driver of shifts in gender roles and identity. The gendered dimension of Indigenous experience remains largely underexplored and is the subject of this article. Amazigh women, like other Indigenous women around the globe, are frequently portrayed as guardians of cultural and linguistic …
Reframing Kabyle Resistance In Marc Garanger's Femmes Algériennes 1960, Lea Wong
Reframing Kabyle Resistance In Marc Garanger's Femmes Algériennes 1960, Lea Wong
Journal of Amazigh Studies
This article examines the identity photographs taken by Marc Garanger as a site of Kabyle women’s resistance in the Algerian War. Over the course of 1960, Garanger moved between various wartime displacement camps across Kabylia, photographing indigenous people for the production of identity cards––a crucial from of colonial population control. Since its publication, Garanger’s Femmes algériennes has become an ambiguous symbol of resistance in the Algerian War, largely due to the subjects’ perceived antagonistic posture and gaze. This article takes a forensic approach to analyzing Kabyle women’s wartime adornment, uncovering a new framework for conceptualizing Algerian women’s agency grounded in …
Representations Of Women Safeguarding Living Cultural Heritage For The Future In 21st Century Kabyle Cinema, Sheila Petty
Representations Of Women Safeguarding Living Cultural Heritage For The Future In 21st Century Kabyle Cinema, Sheila Petty
Journal of Amazigh Studies
This article examines cinematic representations of how some Kabyle women relate to and shape claims to Amazigh (Kabyle) land, language, tangible and intangible cultural heritage; how they navigate and safeguard cultural memory; and how this is depicted in three Kabyle films: La Langue de Zahra/ Zahra’s Mother Tongue (Fatima Sissani, France/Algeria, 2011); Nnuba (Sonia At Qasi-Kessi, Algeria, 2019; and Azar/Racine/Root (Malik Bourkache Daoud, Algeria, 2023). The article also probes how the filmmakers use tangible cultural heritage (documentary film) to document, transpose, and transmit intangible cultural heritage (memories, poetry, song, stories). Through an analysis of the narrative form and cinematic style …
Listening To Taos Amrouche, A Kabyle Woman’S Singing Voice In A Context Of Exile And Immigration : Between A Search For Intimacy And Independence, Melek Chekili
Journal of Amazigh Studies
This article analyzes the vocal, musical and literary strategies Algerian Kabyle singer and writer Taos Amrouche employs to determine the place voicing holds for her in contexts of colonization, exile and migration. I demonstrate through her singing career and her 1975 autobiographical novel l’Amant Imaginaire, that within the ambivalences stemming from her birth in Tunisia to exiled Kabyle Christian converts and her emigration to France, Taos Amrouche’s singing voice provides a space where those ambivalences can co-exist. By being adamant about keeping her artistic activity close to her body and explicitly referring to sex in her writing, she exerts …

Skeletons Vs. Mummies: Osteological Trauma On Bog Bodies As A Measure For Cultural Change In Ancient Europe, Miranda Hoodenpyl
Skeletons Vs. Mummies: Osteological Trauma On Bog Bodies As A Measure For Cultural Change In Ancient Europe, Miranda Hoodenpyl
University Honors Theses
Bog bodies are some of the most well known archaeological finds in the world, and are preserved human remains found in wetlands. Researchers use the information stored in the bones of bog skeletons and mummies to learn about cultural lifestyles, travels, diet, and diseases throughout time in Northern Europe and the British Isles. Through multiple cultural changes and migration, the "bog body phenomenon" has remained an unusual treatment displayed throughout time. This literature review looked at skeletal trauma on bog remains to identify cultural change over time in Northern Europe and the British Isles, spanning the Neolithic, Bronze, Iron, and …

The Possibility Of Post Binary Reflexivity: A Genealogy Of Binary Logic In Western Philosophy, Vaughan A. Bidois
The Possibility Of Post Binary Reflexivity: A Genealogy Of Binary Logic In Western Philosophy, Vaughan A. Bidois
Critical Humanities
This article traces a genealogy of binary logic within Western philosophy, from its origins in Platonic metaphysics through to its deconstruction in poststructuralist theory. Drawing on the genealogical methods of Friedrich Nietzsche and Michel Foucault, it critiques how oppositional structures, such as mind/body, reason/emotion, and truth/error, have persisted through shifting intellectual paradigms while shaping knowledge, power, and subjectivity. Structuralist and linguistic theories are examined for their role in reinforcing binary meaning-making, while poststructural critiques (notably Derrida and Foucault) are explored for their attempts to subvert such hierarchies. However, the article argues that these critiques remain paradoxically ensnared within the same …
