A Study Of The Structure Of Hair With Special Reference To A Negro Child During Its First Five Years Of Growth, General Edward Hamilton

All Theses

Many studies have been made on cross section structure of human head hair. Anthropologist have used color, texture, and form of hair as a basis of racial analysis and classification. Brown 1853 (1) showed that the hair of various races of mankind could be classified into three groups with respect to the shapes of the cross section of the shafts: circular, oval, and elliptical. Pruner-Bey 1863 (2) also studied cross section of hair shafts with respect to curliness, kinkiness, waviness and straightness of the hair of various human races. They found the cross section form of wavy hair to have …

Brief Short-Title List Of Published Works On The History Of Science, Samuel W. Geiser, Bessie T. Geiser Jun 1947

Brief Short-Title List Of Published Works On The History Of Science, Samuel W. Geiser, Bessie T. Geiser

Field and Laboratory

The present brief list was compiled primarily for the use of students in a course on the History of Science offered by the senior author at Southern Methodist University. It is far from complete: scholars conversant with the field will note omission of works they consider of primary importance, and the inclusion of others, to them of secondary interest. We are not sure that in every case our omissions and inclusions are fully defensible; but it is believed that this bibliography includes a very large proportion of the best works on the subject in hand.

Variations Of Two Culture Traits In The Plains Area, Harold Lindsay Amoss May 1947

Variations Of Two Culture Traits In The Plains Area, Harold Lindsay Amoss

Anthropology ETDs

There are two problems involved in the study of processes of culture change: one, what are the determinants of change, and do they apply universally; two, the utilization of these laws in determining culture history. No attempt will be made in this paper to reconstruct a history of the cultural items, not because there is no historical interest, but because the problem is pointed towards the analysis of some culture processes. The concern here is limited to the study of forms, not functions though the latter may have some significant bearing on these problems. The ultimate aim of anthropology is …

An Ecological Study Of The Negro In Ward Seven, Murphy Cleophas Williams May 1947

An Ecological Study Of The Negro In Ward Seven, Murphy Cleophas Williams

Student Work

The concept of the term "ecology' as it relates to sociology and social research is well interpreeted in Gist and Halbert's book, Urban Society… From the above explanation and from the interpretations of the term "ecology" in the writings of Park and Eurgess and others, we get the idea that an ecological study involves the spatial, selective and distributive functions and melations of human beings in a given geographical and cultural area, and that these functions and relations characterize the forms and types of social interaction.
