The Politics Of Remembering: Reconfiguring The Diorama Of Monas As Augmented Living Document, Suprayitno Suprayitno, Zulfatun Sofiyani, Rahmi Rahmi

Proceedings from the Document Academy

This paper examines the Monas diorama as a central apparatus in Indonesia’s politics of remembering, whose narrative consolidation during the New Order rendered it a state-authored monument of national memory. Drawing on Foucault’s distinction between monument and document, Ferraris’s ontology of documentality, and Perret’s concept of document design as projective epistemology, the study reframes the diorama as a documentary assemblage shaped by inscription, power, and institutionalized forgetting. Through diachronic, synchronic, comparative, and experimental analyses, the paper diagnoses failures across the physical, social, and cognitive dimensions of Monas as a document, revealing narrative authoritarianism, representational rigidity, and the absence of plural …

Mediating Cultural Messages Through Technology: A Case Study Of The Paras Nusantara Program In The National Museum Of Indonesia, Ciwuk Musiana Yudhawasthi, Rowella Reyes Parrucho, Truly Wangsalegawa

Proceedings from the Document Academy

Museums increasingly adopt interactive technologies such as gamification to communicate complex historical and cultural messages in ways that are accessible to the public. In response to the growing need for more engaging and inclusive cultural education, the National Museum of Indonesia has introduced Paras Nusantara, an innovative program that merges artificial intelligence (AI) with historical portraiture to foster public awareness of Indonesia’s rich ethnic diversity. "Paras Nusantara," which translates to "Faces of the Archipelago," utilizes AI-driven facial recognition to match visitors’ facial features with one of 78 ethnographic portraits created by artist Raden Mas Pirngadie in 1935. By transforming …

The Relative Importance Of Cultural Competence And Compassion Fatigue In Predicting Nurse Prescribing Self-Efficacy, Debarah Lane Jowett-Gordon

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

As a result of the growing diversity among citizens requiring medical care, there has been a substantial increase in immigrants globally and in the United States. In the U.S. healthcare system, nurse practitioners (NPs) have been facing increased cultural challenges. The purpose of this quantitative study was to determine the relative importance of cultural competence and compassion fatigue in predicting nursing prescribing self-efficacy. Cultural competence served as the theoretical framework, as it focuses on how NPs can effectively communicate with patients from diverse backgrounds by understanding and respecting cultural differences, thereby building trust, improving patient outcomes, and providing quality healthcare. …

Human Trafficking In Central Asia: A Product Of Its Environment, Matt V. Tenberg Feb 2026

Human Trafficking In Central Asia: A Product Of Its Environment, Matt V. Tenberg

Binghamton University Undergraduate Journal

Human trafficking is a complex puzzle when considering all the effort it takes to traffick another person. Many often wonder how one gets trafficked, and what is the appropriate response to human trafficking? A couple of answers can be found when analyzing Central Asia’s ongoing crisis of human trafficking into its territory. Central Asian countries have historically been combating human trafficking after the fall of the Soviet Union. However, after analyzing the laws and methods in place, it is clear that the countries are not succeeding in eliminating this problem. The countries of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan are grounds for …

Development And Diffusion Of The Social Capital Index (Soci), Dean Kyne, Daniel P. Aldrich, Dominic Kyei Feb 2026

Development And Diffusion Of The Social Capital Index (Soci), Dean Kyne, Daniel P. Aldrich, Dominic Kyei

Sociology Faculty Publications

Social capital influences community disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. In 2020, Kyne and Aldrich introduced the Social Capital Index (SoCI), a pioneering, publicly available county-level measure capturing bonding, bridging, and linking social capital across the United States. Since then, the SoCI has been widely adopted across disciplines and applied in diverse research contexts. Five years later, emerging theoretical developments and expanded data availability offer an opportunity to reassess its diffusion and strengthen its methodological foundations. This study addresses three objectives: (1) revisiting the conceptual roots that informed the original index, (2) examining its diffusion through citation and co-citation analyses of …

Tattoo Archives: A Collection Analysis, Jennifer Neville Feb 2026

Tattoo Archives: A Collection Analysis, Jennifer Neville

SLIS Connecting

Tattooing and body modification have been a part of human existence for thousands of years. Although for much of the 20th century, tattoos in America were seen as part of a subculture, in the late 20th century and into the 21st, they gained popularity and more widespread cultural acceptance. Despite the historical lack of mainstream acceptance, tattooing has a wide and varied history. Tattooing was and remains important to many indigenous people, it has always been popular within the military, especially during wartime, and it has a fascinating place in sideshow history. Even though many people now wear tattoos, the …
