The landlord commenced four holdover proceedings based on allegations of license termination. The parties, represented by counsel, settled the cases via stipulations recognizing the tenants as Rent-Stabilized and setting rents. The landlord moved to vacate the stipulations, claiming its attorney lacked authority due to "law office failure" and "miscommunication," a unilateral mistake. Tenants cross-moved for sanctions. The court denied the landlord's motion, finding insufficient cause to vacate the settlement, emphasizing that a unilateral mistake by the attorney, absent mutual mistake or fraud by the other party, is not grounds for vacatur. The court also denied the tenants' motion for sanctions, …

Retrieval Interference In The Processing Of Relative Clauses: Evidence From The Visual-World Paradigm, Matthew W. Lowder, Gwynna Ryan Mar 2026

Retrieval Interference In The Processing Of Relative Clauses: Evidence From The Visual-World Paradigm, Matthew W. Lowder, Gwynna Ryan

Psychology Faculty Publications

Although object-extracted relative clauses (ORCs) are more difficult to process than subject-extracted relative clauses (SRCs), there is still substantial disagreement regarding the cognitive mechanisms underlying these effects. The current visual-world eyetracking experiment took a novel approach to this problem by examining whether ORC-SRC differences would emerge at the matrix verb during the processing of spoken sentences containing these structures. Fixation patterns at the onset of the matrix verb revealed a tendency for participants to fixate the picture representing the subject of the sentence in both ORCs and SRCs. Crucially, participants considered the picture corresponding to a competing noun more while …

Towards Understanding Robust Neural Coding Through Representational Geometry, Zeyuan Ye Mar 2026

Towards Understanding Robust Neural Coding Through Representational Geometry, Zeyuan Ye

Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations

Neural activity is high-dimensional and variable, yet animals represent information robustly. This thesis studies the origins of such robustness through the lens of representational geometry and deep neural network modeling. From a geometric perspective, population responses concentrate near smooth manifolds embedded in a high-dimensional state space. To infer these manifolds from noisy data and quantify their geometric properties, we develop a statistical method based on Gaussian processes and kernel regression (GKR). Applying GKR to simultaneously recorded grid-cell population activity during open-field navigation, we show that increasing running speed expands a torus-like representational manifold and improves spatial decodability. Thus, despite faster …

Comparison Of Sampling Methods For Estimation Of Aquatic Insect Diversity And Abundance Across Seasonal Gradients In A Southern U.S. River System, Albert Henry Gasperecz Mar 2026

Comparison Of Sampling Methods For Estimation Of Aquatic Insect Diversity And Abundance Across Seasonal Gradients In A Southern U.S. River System, Albert Henry Gasperecz

LSU Master's Theses

Determination of benthic macroinvertebrate assemblage composition plays a vital role in assessment and management of lotic systems throughout the U.S. However, the validity of biomonitoring programs depends on accurate and precise measures of macroinvertebrate abundance, which in turn are dependent on sampling gears and protocols. The goal of this project was to assess how gear selection influences estimates of aquatic insect abundance and diversity, and how this selection can affect biological monitoring practices. I used 4 different gears in 3 southern Mississippi streams to aquatically and terrestrially collect aquatic insects seasonally throughout 2024. I identified and recorded all genera present …

Proposed Standardized Nomenclature For Anomalous Aortic Origin Of A Coronary Artery: An International Multidisciplinary Initiative, Carlos M Mery, Meena Nathan, Christoph Gräni, Rajesh Krishnamurthy, Cristina Basso, Marshall L Jacobs, Julie A Brothers, Massimo A Padalino, Silvana Molossi

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Increasing use of advanced noninvasive imaging has provided great anatomic and morphologic details to characterize congenital coronary artery anomalies. Anomalous aortic origin of a coronary artery (AAOCA) is a subtype that may lead to myocardial ischemia with variable clinical manifestations across the lifespan. Management decision making in AAOCA is hindered by anatomic variants of differing physiologic consequences. Several systems of nomenclature have been used that lack uniformity in potentially high-risk morphologic features. The ICAAC (International Coronary Artery Anomalies Collaborative), a group of experts in coronary artery anomalies, proposes a standardized nomenclature to describe anatomy and morphologic features of AAOCA using …

Factors For Successful Craniosynostosis Surgery Gofundme Campaigns, Annarose Taylor, Rena Atayeva, Shikha Trivedi, Phavon Sage, David Park, Brendan Podszus, Jessica Bigner, Yifan Guo

Knowledge and Creativity Expo

Introduction

Craniosynostosis surgery costs can be as high as 100,000 dollars. Even with complete insurance coverage, patients often face large out-of-pocket expenses. Thus, patients seek other financial resources. As a crowdfunding platform, GoFundMe (GFM) is one of those resources. The objective of our study was to identify GFM campaign factors associated with greater fundraising success.

Methods

GoFundMe.com was queried for: craniosynostosis, synostosis, brachycephaly, trigonocephaly, scaphocephaly, and fused skull suture. Included campaigns had patients in the U.S. fundraising for craniosynostosis surgery or related expenses. Excluded campaigns were duplicates, for animals, helmets, charities, or other surgeries. Successful campaigns achieved third quartile of …

Establishing Aquarium Systems And Care Protocols For Marine Invertebrates In The Department Of Biological Sciences At Odu, Magdalene R. Hamlin, Gloria Massamba N'Siala Ph.D.

Knowledge and Creativity Expo

Maintaining live animals in lab settings is useful for establishing a stock of specimens available for experimental studies without relying on continuous collection efforts. Previous aquarium systems utilized in the aquatic facility of the Department of Biological Sciences at ODU were suited for research on freshwater and marine vertebrates and were not designed for the care of marine invertebrates. This project aims to establish methods and protocols suitable for maintaining various marine invertebrates in a control laboratory setting. In the first stage of the project, the existing recirculation system and lab space will be reorganized and restructured to suit the …

Acidosis During Dhca Is Associated With Neurologic Injury In A Canine Model, Rishab Agarwal Mar 2026

Acidosis During Dhca Is Associated With Neurologic Injury In A Canine Model, Rishab Agarwal

Knowledge and Creativity Expo

Introduction: Deep hypothermic circulatory arrest (DHCA) is utilized for neuroprotection during aortic surgery. The associations between the hemodynamic, metabolic and neurologic effects are not well characterized. We hypothesized that DHCA would be associated with hemodynamic and physiologic derangements which would correlate with neurological injury in a large animal model.

Methods: Twenty canines underwent 90 min DHCA at 18 °C with a randomized antegrade cerebral perfusion (ACP) flow rate (2.5, 5, or 10 cc/kg/min, n=6 for each) and were survived for 3 days. No ACP was implemented in controls (n=2).  Intraoperative assessments included hemodynamic (mean arterial pressure (MAP) and heart rate …

Molecular Xenomonitoring For Early Detection Of West Nile Virus Circulation In New Jersey: A Field Validation Study, Viet-Linh Nguyen, Pratap Kafle

Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Fellow Symposium

West Nile virus (WNV) remains a persistent public health concern in New Jersey, yet current pooled-mosquito PCR surveillance often detects viral activity only after significant amplification, narrowing the window for timely intervention. Molecular xenomonitoring (MX), which is the detection of viral RNA in mosquito excreta or saliva deposited on honey-baited FTA cards, offers a non-destructive alternative that preserves nucleic acids at room temperature, passively captures signals from hundreds of mosquitoes per card, and has the potential to detect WNV circulation earlier than conventional surveillance by continuously sampling mosquito activity without the need for lethal collection. This project aims to (1) …
