The Applicability Of International-Environmental Rating Systems On Eco-Lodges, Amr Ali Bayoumi Dr., Ola Ali Bayoumi Dr.

Journal of Engineering Research

Thousands of years ago, Eco-lodges established in rural areas, away of the main cities, for multiple reasons; low populated area, healthier environment (psychological and physical health) and Economic development. Some of them were established randomly by local people and others were developed by architects or developers. Recently, it is essential to develop such projects in to deserts, forests or cold mountains in order to reduce the high population density in capital cities. Unfortunately, Environmental and International rating systems were not developed to be measuring tools to any type of Eco-lodge. Thus, the researcher had developed a new rating system adaptive …

Journal of Engineering Research

Aging significantly affects human health and the overall economy, yet understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms remains limited. Among all human genes, almost three hundred and five have been linked to human aging. While certain subsets of these genes or specific aging-related genes have been extensively studied. There has been a lack of comprehensive examination encompassing the entire set of aging-related genes. Here, the main objective is to overcome understanding based on an innovative approach that combines the capabilities of deep learning. Particularly using One-Dimensional Deep AutoEncoder (1D-DAE). Followed by the K-means clustering technique as a means of unsupervised learning. …

Proteoglycan Dysfunction: A Common Link Between Intervertebral Disc Degeneration And Skeletal Dysplasia, Kimheak Sao, Makarand V. Risbud

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Faculty Papers

Proteoglycans through their sulfated glycosaminoglycans regulate cell-matrix signaling during tissue development, regeneration, and degeneration processes. Large extracellular proteoglycans such as aggrecan, versican, and perlecan are especially important for the structural integrity of the intervertebral disc and cartilage during development. In these tissues, proteoglycans are responsible for hydration, joint flexibility, and the absorption of mechanical loads. Loss or reduction of these molecules can lead to disc degeneration and skeletal dysplasia, evident from loss of disc height or defects in skeletal development respectively. In this review, we discuss the common proteoglycans found in the disc and cartilage and elaborate on various murine …

“I Saw Nothing But Beauty”: Exploring The Zaynab Paradigm In Iranian Aesthetics Of Protest, Kasper Tromp Mar 2024

“I Saw Nothing But Beauty”: Exploring The Zaynab Paradigm In Iranian Aesthetics Of Protest, Kasper Tromp

Regards

This article explores an Iranian aesthetics of protest that, alternative to intervening in the public space as political agent, confers a spiritual agency that aids in recovering a sense of humanity while dehumanizing laws are upheld. The artistic practices under scrutiny occur between rather than during moments of protest and offer more reflective, metaphorical accounts of the injustices of authoritarian rule. I associate this particular aesthetics with the Shiite figure Zaynab bint ‘Ali, who accused tyrants, strengthened the moral resolve of her community, commanded to accept God’s decree and recognize beauty in His works. In so doing, I challenge Hamid …

». Liberté de laisser ses cheveux dispersés au vent, au mépris de toute interdiction. …

Iran : Révolutions Photographiques, Claudia Polledri

Regards

The Islamic Revolution of 1979 represented a turning point for Iranian photography. Defining the characteristics of this historic moment, which intersects the country’s history with that of photography, is an arduous undertaking, as the links, practices and relationships that weave themselves between images and events are always multiple. The Darabi collection of photographic books (1979-1981) offers us an extraordinary gateway to these questions. Our aim is to show that this new type of publication, far from being a simple publication medium, becomes a veritable place of experimentation, where photography dialogues with other visual forms. Above all, we’ll see that the …

Réalisme, Ma Soeur. Le Réalisme Et Le Voile Obligatoire À L'Époque Post-Mahsa Amini, Mohammad Reza Amiri

Regards

This article aims to rethink the relationship between the idea of realism and the reality of mandatory veiling in Iran, in the light of the demonstrations following the death of Mahsa Amini. It assumes that after the emergence of Vida Movahed, and especially with the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement, this relationship has become more conflictual than ever. By offering a brief overview of the evolution of the representation of veiled women within the works of two major Iranian realist filmmakers, Abbas Kiarostami and Kianoush Ayari, we seek to highlight the long journey of confronting censorship, which finds its triumph in …

Corporéités Rebelles : « La Voix De La Femme En Iran » (2020), Un Film D’Andreas Rochholl, Olfa Daoud

Regards

In this article, we analyze Andreas Rochholl’s documentary The Voice of Women in Iran, which presents the courageous stand of Iranian women singers for their freedom of artistic expression, despite political and cultural barriers. The film highlights their unwavering determination to let their voices be heard, challenging the strict restrictions imposed by the ruling power and the customs of a society dominated by patriarchy. This struggle is underlined by a cinematic mise-en-scène that glorifies the actresses’ bodies and voices, embodying a “rebellious corporeity” that manifests their resistance. This representation generates deep empathy in viewers and stimulates critical reflection. Our …

Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles and Research

Climate change has myriad impacts on ecosystems, but the mechanisms by which it affects individual species can be difficult to pinpoint. One strategy to discover such mechanisms is to identify a specific ecological factor related to survival or reproduction and determine how that factor is affected by climate. Here we used Landsat imagery to calculate water clarity for 127 lakes in northern Wisconsin from 1995 to 2021 and thus investigate the effect of clarity on the body condition of an aquatic visual predator, the common loon (Gavia immer). In addition, we examined rainfall and temperature as potential predictors …

Platform: A Journal of Engineering

In the previous literature, amphibious robots focused mainly on locomotion in underwater and flat land surface manoeuvring. Few amphibious robots focused on unstructured land environments. The amphibious robot designs were more emphasised in academics, leading to more work done in building amphibious robots that mimic biological amphibians, imitating the geometry and overall functionality of the amphibious robots. Developing amphibious robots with propulsive mechanisms for manoeuvring in a water environment received more attention than other functionalities like adaptability on rough natural terrain and obstacle repositioning capability. However, practical applications like reconnaissance and surveying posed challenges in the ground environment, which had …

Comments On “Covidx-Net: A Framework Of Deep Learning Classifiers To Diagnose Covid-19 In X-Ray Images”, Sami Lababidi

Sustainable Machine Intelligence Journal

In an early study by (Pan et al., 2020), the authors proposed a deep learning framework; called COVIDX-Net to support radiologists in the process of automatic diagnosis of COVID-19 infection from X-ray images. In this comment, we argue that Pan et al. 's paper include three failings that may impact the performance of models available in COVIDX-Net leading to erroneous results and incorrect conclusions. First, the study lacks a clear and distinct framework, instead employing a conventional approach of training and testing a set of pre-existing deep learning models. Second, the study lies in the utilization of a very small dataset …

Brain hypoxia is associated with a wide range of physiological and clinical conditions. Although oxygen is an essential constituent of maintaining brain functions, our understanding of how specific brain cell types globally respond and adapt to decreasing oxygen conditions is incomplete. In this study, we exposed mouse primary neurons, astrocytes, and microglia to normoxia and two hypoxic conditions and obtained genome-wide transcriptional profiles of the treated cells. Analysis of differentially expressed genes under conditions of reduced oxygen revealed a canonical hypoxic response shared among different brain cell types. In addition, we observed a higher sensitivity of neurons to oxygen decline, …
