Large Language Model (Llm) Generated Personalized Mnemonics, Heidi Wong, Elissa Wolf

Defensive Publications Series

Mnemonic devices aid information retention and retrieval of information from long-term memory. The peculiarity of mnemonic devices makes them memorable. An example of a mnemonic device is "My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine Pies" that is helpful to remember the order of the planets in the solar system by distance from the sun. However, currently there are no automated ways of generating mnemonics, or to generate associated images that help remember the mnemonics. This disclosure leverages the capabilities of a large language model (LLM) and image generation model(s) to automatically generate mnemonics that can aid memory. A user …

Charismatic Leadership And Vulnerability: A Comprehensive Study Of Cult Dynamics, Danielle Santana Denrich Apr 2024

Charismatic Leadership And Vulnerability: A Comprehensive Study Of Cult Dynamics, Danielle Santana Denrich

Psychology Presentations

The term "cult" has various definitions in academic discourse, including religious or quasi-religious groups and small, ideologically aligned communities. This paper explores the complexity of the term, its alternative labels, and the influence of media portrayal on public perception. It examines cult leaders' attributes, focusing on the "dark triad" personality traits—narcissism, machiavellianism, and psychopathy—and their manifestation in charismatic leaders. The functionality of cults is scrutinized, highlighting their appeal as a familial structure and promises of intellectual, spiritual, and political power. However, the darker side of cult functionality involves manipulative recruitment tactics and thought-stopping techniques. Additionally, the paper examines susceptibility to …

Quantifying How Natural History Traits Contribute To Bias In Community Science Engagement: A Case Study Using Orbweaver Spiders, John Deitsch, Angela Chuang, David R. Nelsen, Michael Sitvarin, David Coyle

Achieve

Online citizen science platforms can be crucial to the scientific and regulatory community, but inherent biases based on organism traits can influence the likelihood of a species being reported and accurately identified. We explored how traits of orb weaving spiders impact data in iNaturalist, using the invasive Jorō spider as a case study. This species is an outlier among orbweavers due to its large size and bright coloration, and was the most frequently reported species, with the most identifications and research-grade observations. It was also reported by less experienced users on average, highlighting its potential role as a gateway species …

Entre Sombras Y "Bellas Artes": La Ciudad De México Como Escenario Noir En Distinto Amanecer (1943), Linda G. Villarreal Flores

Theses and Dissertations

Microplastic Quantification On The Effect Of Endoparasite Communities In Florida Seabirds, Sarah N. Prieto Apr 2024

Microplastic Quantification On The Effect Of Endoparasite Communities In Florida Seabirds, Sarah N. Prieto

All HCAS Student Capstones, Theses, and Dissertations

Microplastics are being studied in a variety of different projects to better understand their impact and threat to wildlife species. Although there is an understanding that microplastics are affecting our wildlife, there are still questions about how coastal seabirds come to ingest them and how the ingestion is altering critical biological processes, such as that for endoparasite communities. This project aims to determine a better understanding of two main objectives: assessment of the presence of secondary ingestion of microplastics in coastal seabirds due to the fish species they prey on and relationship between microplastics and endoparasite communities' structure and state …

Mass Capture Fishing In The Marquesas Islands, Reno Nims, Patricia Pillay, Melinda S. Allen Apr 2024

Mass Capture Fishing In The Marquesas Islands, Reno Nims, Patricia Pillay, Melinda S. Allen

Anthropology Faculty Publications and Presentations

Mass capture of small fishes with a variety of nets, traps, and weirs was widely practiced and economically important across East Polynesia at western contact. Archaeological research, however, has suggested these technologies were less important during the early settlement period and gained prominence over time. Several explanations have been proposed, including resource depression, changes in marine environments, and/or social and economic reorientations. In the Marquesas Islands, pelagic and offshore fishes were historically well represented in early assemblages relative to most Polynesian islands. Here we report on fishbone assemblages from Nuku Hiva Island that were recovered with fine mesh screens, identified …

Reverberation Of Ecocritical Concerns In The Novels Of Kazuo Ishiguro, Bavetra S Apr 2024

Reverberation Of Ecocritical Concerns In The Novels Of Kazuo Ishiguro, Bavetra S

Theses and Dissertations

Kazuo Ishiguro, one of the most celebrated contemporary writers, has authored eight novels. As a Noble Laureate of 2017, his works are constantly under academic scrutiny. One of the best-explored themes in the works of Ishiguro is memories and emotions. No writer of meritable artistic integrity can ever stay away from the pressing issue of his age. Intriguingly, Ishiguro's works seem to lack engagement with environmental issues. The extensive study of Literature reiterates the point that Ishiguro's works are explored solely for a diminished ratio in terms of environmental challenges.

The researcher has identified the lack of critical attention on …

Development And Structure Of Spinal Interneuron Connectivity In Larval Zebrafish, Saul Bello Rojas Apr 2024

Development And Structure Of Spinal Interneuron Connectivity In Larval Zebrafish, Saul Bello Rojas

Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations

In vertebrates, spinal interneurons are essential for the initiation and propagation of locomotor activity with each class of interneurons serving its own unique role. Ipsilateral interneurons function to control locomotor speed; whereas, commissural interneurons aid in left – right alternation. To date, most studies have been aimed at studying the impact of each individual class of interneurons onto motor neurons. However, not much work has revolved around studying interneuron – interneuron connectivity among the various cardinal classes. Furthermore, it remains unknown how the connectivity of interneurons changes along their entire axonal reach. This thesis aims to address the developmental patterns …

Effective Dispersal Patterns In Prairie Plant Species Across Human-Modified Landscapes., Elizabeth C. Hendrickson, Mitchell B. Cruzan Apr 2024

Effective Dispersal Patterns In Prairie Plant Species Across Human-Modified Landscapes., Elizabeth C. Hendrickson, Mitchell B. Cruzan

Biology Faculty Publications and Presentations

Effective dispersal among plant populations is dependent on vector behaviour, landscape features and availability of adequate habitats. To capture landscape feature effects on dispersal, studies must be conducted at scales reflecting single-generation dispersal events (mesoscale). Many studies are conducted at large scales where genetic differentiation is due to dispersal occurring over multiple generations, making it difficult to interpret the effects of specific landscape features on vector behaviour. Genetic structure at the mesoscale may be determined by ecological and evolutionary processes, such as the consequences of vector behaviour on patterns of gene flow. We used chloroplast haplotypes and nuclear genome SNP …

The Swi/Snf Atp-Dependent Chromatin Remodeling Complex In Cell Lineage Priming And Early Development, Dhurjhoti Saha, Srinivas Animireddy, Blaine Bartholomew Apr 2024

The Swi/Snf Atp-Dependent Chromatin Remodeling Complex In Cell Lineage Priming And Early Development, Dhurjhoti Saha, Srinivas Animireddy, Blaine Bartholomew

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

ATP dependent chromatin remodelers have pivotal roles in transcription, DNA replication and repair, and maintaining genome integrity. SWI/SNF remodelers were first discovered in yeast genetic screens for factors involved in mating type switching or for using alternative energy sources therefore termed SWI/SNF complex (short for SWItch/Sucrose NonFermentable). The SWI/SNF complexes utilize energy from ATP hydrolysis to disrupt histone-DNA interactions and shift, eject, or reposition nucleosomes making the underlying DNA more accessible to specific transcription factors and other regulatory proteins. In development, SWI/SNF orchestrates the precise activation and repression of genes at different stages, safe guards the formation of specific cell …

An Evaluation Of Tape For The Collection Of Ignitable Liquid Residues From Non-Porous And Porous Surfaces, Laird Vincent Jarrett

Online Theses and Dissertations

Ignitable liquids are flammable mixtures used to accelerate a fire. ILs are composed of a broad range of hydrocarbons and include commonly encountered materials such as gasoline, diesel, and kerosene. In the event of a suspected arson, ILR may be found within the pores of materials at the crime scene such as concrete. Traditionally, the whole material is collected and packaged into air-tight containers to prevent evaporation and allow transportation back to the lab. However, this may require the use of heavy machinery, such as a jack hammer, which takes a lot of manpower to operate and may increase the …

An Update In Adult Intraosseous Infusion, Wirot Sombatthavoankun Apr 2024

An Update In Adult Intraosseous Infusion, Wirot Sombatthavoankun

Asian Medical Journal and Alternative Medicine

The Intraosseous (IO) needle was developed in 1920s to access the vascular system via the bone marrow cavity. Around the 2010s, there was widespread interest in IO after the American Heart Association (AHA) recommended that intraosseous access is an optional route when intravenous (IV) access cannot be obtained quickly. IO had a higher success rate (99.6%), was faster to perform (15-24 seconds), had a nearly equal flow rate (1-5L/hr), and had almost equal drug bioavailability to IV. The complication of IO becoming dislodged was 10-16%, needle dislocation was 0.8%, needle bending was 0.4% and parafusion (defined as fluid leakage at …
