The enormous potential of multifunctional bilayer wound dressings in various medical interventions for wound healing has led to decades of exploration into this field of medicine. However, it is usually difficult to synthesize a single hydrogel with all the required capabilities simultaneously. This paper proposes a bilayer model with an outer layer intended for hydrogel wound treatment. By adding gelatin methacrylate (GelMA) and tannic acid (TA) to the hydrogel composition and using polyvinyl alcohol-carboxymethyl chitosan (PVA-CMCs) foam layer as supports, a photocrosslinkable hydrogel with an optimal formulation was created. The hydrogels were then examined using a range of analytical procedures, …

Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) remains a significant public health threat globally. New interventions to treat CDI rely on an understanding of the evolution and epidemiology of circulating strains. Here we provide longitudinal genomic data on strain diversity, transmission dynamics and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of C. difficile ribotypes (RTs) 014/020 (n=169), 002 (n=77) and 056 (n=36), the three most prominent C. difficile strains causing CDI in Australia. Genome scrutiny showed that AMR was uncommon in these lineages, with resistance-conferring alleles present in only 15/169 RT014/020 strains (8.9 %), 1/36 RT056 strains (2.78 %) and none of 77 RT002 strains. Notably, ~90 …

Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is a promising neuromodulatory therapy under investigation for a range of disorders, including heart failure, gastric dysmotility, and migraine. Two primary forms of VNS are currently investigated: cervical VNS (cVNS), involving surgically implantation to activate vagal afferents in the cervical branch in the neck and transcutaneous auricular VNS (taVNS) which subcutaneously stimulates the auricular branch in the outer ear. The nucleus of the solitary tract (NTS) serves as a relay-station receiving 90% of vagal afferents, enabling connections with higher-order brain regions and other brainstem nuclei like the spinal trigeminal nucleus (Sp5) and locus coeruleus (LC), facilitating …
Using Story In Postsecondary Theological Education To Increase Student Engagement And Formation, Jake Abrams
Using Story In Postsecondary Theological Education To Increase Student Engagement And Formation, Jake Abrams
Senior Honors Theses
Due to the formative power of stories and their ability to captivate an audience, we should be supplementing contemporary postsecondary theological education (which typically relies upon the relaying of facts and fails to engage students on an emotional level) with story. This article takes a look at three studies that have tested similar concepts in other disciplines. Their findings suggest that stories do, in fact, increase and sustain student engagement, as well as increase the formative impact of the knowledge they impart. Based on their findings and my own analysis of their methods, I conclude that story would be an …

The Art Of Hoarding: Hoarding Behavior As It Relates To Art Engagement, Amanda Carr
Honors College Theses
There has been a long history of artists as collectors, amassing objects as both part of their creative process and for personal enjoyment. However, it remains to be seen if some of the more extreme collecting tendencies of artists may be instead classified as hoarding. Although, there has been some examination of the relationship between artists and creativity to hoarding, there is a dearth of empirical investigation into the relationship between art engagement and hoarding behavior. Further, artists’ and hoarding behavior are mutually associated with some personality traits and cognitive functions. Given such parallels and the overall lack of research …

Usda Wildlife Services Management Efforts At The Grand Forks Wastewater Treatment Plant, Dorothy Celeste Daulton
Theses and Dissertations
Wildlife collisions with aircraft (wildlife strikes) are a costly and dangerous issue. In recent decades, wildlife strikes within airport boundaries have decreased partly due to on-airfield wildlife strike mitigation efforts. Landscape attractants surrounding airfields within an 8 km radius have been found to influence the occurrence of wildlife strikes by increasing wildlife presence and abundance on or near airfields. The effectiveness of mitigation efforts can be increased by extending operations to include landscape features in an 8 km radius from airports. However, not much is known about the long-term effects of wildlife strike mitigation operations when conducted on neighboring properties, …

The Impact Of Vehicular Noise On The Effectiveness Of Acoustic Indices, Rebecca Ducay
Theses
Passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) is a valuable tool in wildlife research, offering non-invasive and cost-effective means to collect acoustic data. However, the processing of PAM recordings can be time-consuming, prompting the use of acoustic indices to expedite analysis. Acoustic indices are numerical values that characterize biological information in sound recordings based on an environment’s acoustic characteristics. While acoustic indices have been correlated with species richness across ecological contexts, their reliability diminishes in areas with heightened vehicular noise. However, it is unclear if index biases caused by vehicular noise are consistent across all traffic levels, and which acoustic indices are most …

The Role Of Anti-Viral Immune Response On The Therapeutic Efficacy Of Oncolytic Virotherapy For High-Grade Gliomas, Dong Ho Shin Phd
The Role Of Anti-Viral Immune Response On The Therapeutic Efficacy Of Oncolytic Virotherapy For High-Grade Gliomas, Dong Ho Shin Phd
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Currently, there is no effective treatment for high-grade gliomas that are resistant to conventional treatments and immune checkpoint blockade therapies. Oncolytic viruses offer a new treatment modality by selectively replicating in cancer cells and inducing anti-tumor immunity. Among these viruses, the oncolytic adenovirus Delta-24-RGD has shown safety and efficacy in clinical trials for high-grade gliomas. Strategies to improve the efficacy of oncolytic virotherapy have aimed to heighten the immunogenicity of oncolytic viruses, either by incorporating immune-stimulating transgenes or by combining treatments with immune checkpoint blockades. However, such strategies may inadvertently trigger heightened immune responses to viral antigens, which may not …
Identification Of The Phosphatase Nudt5 As A Target For The Treatment Of Triple Negative Breast Cancer, Jing Qian
