This study aims to investigate the functional significance of transitivity in Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea, depending upon Halliday’s Systemicfunctional Grammar (SFG). Transitivity is a set of grammatical choices made by language users to express their experiences. These goings-on are realised by the verb type in the clause. The study investigates the process types: material, mental, relational, behavioural and existential, with a particular focus on the presentation of the protagonist's inner thoughts and his conscious practices. In the western Islamic word, practicing sports was considered an effective method of maintaining health. This was especially so in the traditional medical context, which established rules and conditions for the preservation of physical and mental health. This study will focus on the different sports practices recommended as cures in medical texts. These treatments specify the frequency, technique, and type of approved exercises. This study traces the symbol of the shadow and its association with women’s inferior position in selected Victorian poems. It shows how, in their use of the symbol, both male . and female poets represent women as abandoned in the shadow of their male contemporaries. Both Tennessee Williams and Marina Carr are interested in female issues. Throughout his literary career, Williams expresses his feelings towards his mother and sister through the female characters that inhabit his plays. Mostly, they are fragile women in a hostile world devoid of sympathy and care. The Glass Menagerie, through the characters of Amanda Wingfield and her daughter Laura, offers exemplary figures of such characters whose only weapons against a cruel and severe present is retreat into illusionary worlds of beautiful memories or glass figurines.
