The Interaction Between Frequency Of Cannabis Use And Method Of Delivery In Predicting Lack Of Interest In Eating, Joanne Lynn Pomeroy
The Interaction Between Frequency Of Cannabis Use And Method Of Delivery In Predicting Lack Of Interest In Eating, Joanne Lynn Pomeroy
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Cannabis use, its benefits, and adverse effects are being increasingly studied due to the abundance of existing dispensaries created under recreational and legalization policies. While research is inconclusive, an established association exists between increased cannabis concentration and anorexigenic properties. This study examines the interaction between the frequency of cannabis use and the method of delivery in predicting the lack of interest subtype of Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) in emerging adults. Cannabis use was measured by the Cannabis Engagement Assessment (CES). The Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale-7 (GAD-7) was used to measure anxiety, and the Pica, ARFID, and Rumination Disorder Questionnaire …

If The Balloon Goes Up: A History Of U.S. Army Maneuvers And Their Effectiveness, 1902-1944, Randall S. Wells Jr.
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The historiography surrounding U.S. Army military readiness exercises and their effectiveness in improving or increasing the resultant fighting power of Army Ground Forces is an untouched field of study. This work fills that historical gap by exploring and analyzing a series of U.S. Army readiness maneuvers conducted for forty-plus years that sought to closely replicate the actual conditions of combat that Army Ground Forces were expected to encounter. In doing so, it reveals the criticality of ensuring effective military readiness exercises accomplish their primary intent, which is to use actual military vehicles, aircraft, naval vessels, weapons, and tactics to facilitate …
Teacher Observations On The Success Of Hard-Of-Hearing Students In The Middle School Mathematics Classroom: A Case Study, Hannah Abbott Mcpherson
Teacher Observations On The Success Of Hard-Of-Hearing Students In The Middle School Mathematics Classroom: A Case Study, Hannah Abbott Mcpherson
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this case study was to describe how deficits in foundational language among hard-of-hearing students influence mathematics instruction for general education middle school classroom teachers working to educate this student population in the South. The theory guiding this study was Paivio’s theory on dual coding, as it supports learning the necessary concepts needed to perform successfully in mathematics. The central research question for this study was: What are the experiences of middle school mathematics teachers working with hard-of-hearing students? Methodology defined as a descriptive case study included individual interviews, a focus group, and journal prompts to collect data …
A Holistic Approach To Music For Stress Management During Pregnancy, Danielle Emily Dixon
A Holistic Approach To Music For Stress Management During Pregnancy, Danielle Emily Dixon
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Pregnancy is a transformative journey for women, but amidst the excitement and anticipation that most women experience, pregnancy often raises stress levels to profound heights for various reasons, which may include hormonal fluctuations, physical discomforts, concerns about the baby’s health, financial pressures, relationship changes, fear of labor and birth, life adjustments, and societal expectations. The purpose of this qualitative hermeneutic phenomenological study was to examine how music interventions impacted stress levels during pregnancy. This two-week study employed an in-person group experiment involving pregnant women. The study sample was selected via voluntary response sampling, where pregnant women volunteered to participate in …

The existing literature has highlighted the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in enhancing ideation and optimizing functionality across various engineering disciplines. However, a comprehensive understanding of the impact of AI on the engineering design process, particularly in creating innovative and efficient designs, is currently lacking. This research specifically investigates the integration of AI in developing space-haptic boots by utilizing haptic technology for immersive virtual interactions. The study analyzes the role of an AI tool, ChatGPT-3.5, in the design process, starting from requirement gathering to prototyping and testing, to assess the effectiveness and challenges of AI in engineering design. We …

Air Quality And Mental Illness: Role Of Bioaerosols, Causal Mechanisms And Research Priorities, Kamaldeep Bhui, Marcella Ucci, Prashant Kumar, Simon K. Jackson, Corinne Whitby, Ian Colbeck, Christian Pfrang, Zaheer A. Nasir, Frederic Coulon
School of Biomedical Sciences
BACKGROUND: Poor air quality can both trigger and aggravate lung and heart conditions, as well as affecting child development. It can even lead to neurological and mental health problems. However, the precise mechanisms by which air pollution affect human health are not well understood.
AIMS: To promote interdisciplinary dialogue and better research based on a critical summary of evidence on air quality and health, with an emphasis on mental health, and to do so with a special focus on bioaerosols as a common but neglected air constituent.
METHOD: A rapid narrative review and interdisciplinary expert consultation, as is recommended for …
Characteristics Of Natural Environment Use By Occupational Therapists Working In Mental Health Care: A Scoping Review, Ruth Bishop, Frazer Underwood, Fiona Fraser, Lisa Burrows, Jill Shawe
Characteristics Of Natural Environment Use By Occupational Therapists Working In Mental Health Care: A Scoping Review, Ruth Bishop, Frazer Underwood, Fiona Fraser, Lisa Burrows, Jill Shawe
School of Health Professions
Objective: The objective of this review was to identify and characterize the use of the natural environment/outdoor space by occupational therapists working in mental health care. This included consideration of the characteristics of the environment used, interventions, mental health conditions being treated, and the outcomes being used. Introduction: Research has demonstrated the link between human health and the environment. The benefits appear to be particularly relevant to people with mental health conditions. Occupational therapists already consider the environment when assessing and developing interventions, and therefore are well placed to consider and use the natural environment in mental health practice. However, …
Synergistic Effects Of Biological Stimuli And Flexion Induce Microcavities Promote Hypertrophy And Inhibit Chondrogenesis During In Vitro Culture Of Human Mesenchymal Stem Cell Aggregates, Bo Zhang, Jim Berilla, Sungwoo Cho, Rodrigo A. Somoza, Jean F. Welter, Harihara Baskaran

Faculty Scholarship
Interzone/cavitation are key steps in early stage joint formation that have not been successfully developed in vitro. Further, current models of endochondral ossification, an important step in early bone formation, lack key morphology morphological structures such as microcavities found during development in vivo. This is possibly due to the lack of appropriate strategies for incorporating chemical and mechanical stimuli that are thought to be involved in joint development. We designed a bioreactor system and investigated the synergic effect of chemical stimuli (chondrogenesis-inducing [CIM] and hypertrophy-inducing medium [HIM]) and mechanical stimuli (flexion) on the growth of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) …

Target Heart Rate Formulas For Exercise Stress Testing: What Is The Evidence?, Omar Almaadawy, Barry F Uretsky, Chayakrit Krittanawong, Yochai Birnbaum
Faculty, Staff and Students Publications
Exercise stress testing (EST) is commonly used to evaluate chest pain, with some labs using 85% of age-predicted maximum heart rate (APMHR) as an endpoint for EST. The APMHR is often calculated using the formula 220-age. However, the accuracy of this formula and 85% APMHR as an endpoint may be questioned. Moreover, failing to reach 85% APMHR (known as chronotropic insufficiency) may also indicate poor cardiovascular prognosis, but measurements, such as percentage heart rate reserve (%HRR), maximum rate pressure product (MRPP), and the maximum metabolic equivalent of tasks (METs) reached during EST may provide better prediction of cardiovascular outcomes than …
