One Horse Power: The Environmental Consequences Of Horseback Riding Trails In Protected Areas And National Parks, Briana Kupic
One Horse Power: The Environmental Consequences Of Horseback Riding Trails In Protected Areas And National Parks, Briana Kupic
Hospitality Graduate Student Scholarship
Horseback riding is one of the traditional forms of recreation in national parks and protected areas, and can give visitors a special chance to explore these beautiful natural areas from a different perspective. However, the activity has raised concerns for its perceived effects on the environment. This paper synthesizes and reviews secondary literature on the environmental effects of horseback riding, and identifies four broad themes: disturbance to wildlife, degradation of water quality, loss of vegetation, and soil erosion. The evidence indicates that equines have the potential to inflict far greater trail damage and ecological impact than other trail participants, including …

The Impact Of Coral Degradation On Coastal Communities In Southeast Asia, Paige Smith
The Impact Of Coral Degradation On Coastal Communities In Southeast Asia, Paige Smith
Ballard Brief
Coral reefs across the globe are in decline, but reefs in Southeast Asia are among some of the most threatened in the world. Climate change, triggered by fossil fuel emissions, raises sea water temperatures and lowers the ocean’s pH, contributing to coral bleaching and inhibiting coral growth. Local threats also particularly affect reefs in Southeast Asia, such as destructive fishing techniques and marine and inland sources of pollution. Coastal communities in Southeast Asia are especially vulnerable to the degradation of coral reefs due to economic reliance on these reefs and their proximity to them. Declining coral reefs can damage the …

Implementing Skill Based Treatment Within A Classroom Setting For Students With Autism: A Systematic Replication In An Alternative School Based Setting, Hayley Getz
Masters Theses
The purpose of this research was to demonstrate the feasibility and efficacy of implementing the Interview-Informed Synthesized Contingency Analysis (IISCA) and Skill Based Treatment (SBT) in an alternative classroom setting with students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). There is much existing research that supports both in a clinical setting, however the school setting is lacking in research. The goal of this study was to teach three students with ASD who engage in challenging behaviors an appropriate way to communicate their needs, how to tolerate the removal of a preferred toy or activity, and to follow educational instructions instead of …

Digital Flexor Tendon Repair With Barbed Suture: A Biomechanical Study, Alexander Kammien
Digital Flexor Tendon Repair With Barbed Suture: A Biomechanical Study, Alexander Kammien
Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library
Background: Few prior studies have investigated work of flexion following knotless digital flexor tendon repair using barbed suture. Existing evidence is mixed: some studies report no difference between knotted and knotless techniques, while others show increased work of flexion with knotless techniques. This biomechanical study aimed to strengthen current evidence by comparing knotted and knotless flexor tendon repairs.
Methods: Two knotted and two knotless techniques for flexor tendon repair were evaluated. Each repair was tested in twelve cadaveric flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) tendons. Work of flexion was measured prior to repair. FDP tendons were lacerated and repaired using knotted or …

Website accessibility is essential to ensure equitable healthcare access, especially for individuals with disabilities. This study evaluated the accessibility of health insurance websites for the ten largest Medicare Advantage insurers by market share. Using three free, publicly available automated accessibility checkers—WAVE, Axe-Core, and Skilltide—we systematically identified five URLs per insurer based on specific webpage keywords. These tools adhere to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Version 2.1 Level AA, the technical standard referenced in the most recent U.S. legislation.A total of 1,223 accessibility errors were identified across 50 webpages, with Skilltide detecting the most errors (588), followed by WAVE (502) …
Evaluating Nebulizer Efficiency For Phage Therapy In Drug-Resistant Pseudomonas Infections, Daniel Thompson
Evaluating Nebulizer Efficiency For Phage Therapy In Drug-Resistant Pseudomonas Infections, Daniel Thompson
Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library
Background
The global rise of multidrug-resistant (MDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa necessitates novel therapeutic approaches, particularly for patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Bacteriophage therapy, delivered via inhalation, offers a targeted and potentially transformative treatment for pulmonary infections caused by MDR pathogens. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of nebulizer type and bacteriophage morphology on viable phage recovery and aerosol particle size distribution, hypothesizing that nebulizer-phage compatibility significantly influences the delivery of viable phages to the lower respiratory tract.
Methods
We conducted an in vitro study utilizing two clinically relevant nebulizer systems: the Pari LC Plus jet nebulizer and the Altera eFlow …

Personalized Therapeutic Approaches For Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma (Ctcl), Madisen Swallow
Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library
Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) is a non-Hodgkin lymphoma characterized as a malignancy of T-cells that variably involves the skin, lymph nodes, and blood. Many therapeutic options exist for patients with CTCL, ranging from narrow-band UVB, extracorporeal photopheresis, total skin electron beam therapy, retinoids, histone deacetylase inhibitors, antibody drug conjugates, and chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy. Despite the various advances in treatment options, these therapies are non-curative with overall response rates ranging from 30 to 55%, warranting the need for better alternatives that also aim to reduce toxic systemic effects. Project 1: Prior work in a series of publications by …

Cosmic Redemption And Christology: The Timeless Christ-Hymn Of Colossians, Rinah Fiol
Cosmic Redemption And Christology: The Timeless Christ-Hymn Of Colossians, Rinah Fiol
Beets Paper Contest
The letter to the Colossians, a nominally Pauline letter whose authorship is disputed, presents an intricate message about the supremacy of Christ and the cosmic reconciliation He mediates. Specifically, it contains a beautiful Christ-hymn in Col. 1:15-20, which holds critical implications for viewing the identity of Christ and the scope of redemption. In examining scholarly conversations on the language and message of the Christ-hymn, these questions can be more fully understood and applied to Christian life regardless of time and place.

Anchoring Digital Sovereignty, Vivek Krishnamurthy
Anchoring Digital Sovereignty, Vivek Krishnamurthy
Chicago Journal of International Law
For a quarter-century, a consensus has prevailed that territorial sovereignty applies online as it does offline. Since practically all the Internet’s infrastructure and its billions of users reside on the territory of states, conventional wisdom holds that sovereignty must extend to cyberspace. Such accounts ignore how people experience cyberspace as a distinctive place, and how current international law lacks safeguards to prevent states from exercising their sovereignty to splinter the Internet into a set of national networks. Territorial sovereignty is also hard to square with pledges by the world’s democracies to keep the Internet free, open, and global; yet it …
Childhood Trauma And The Emergence Of Precognitive Abilities: A Correlational Study, Kirsten Cameron, Jenny Wade
Childhood Trauma And The Emergence Of Precognitive Abilities: A Correlational Study, Kirsten Cameron, Jenny Wade
International Journal of Transpersonal Studies Advance Publication Archive
This study addresses the scientific tendency to misattribute the higher levels of belief in extra-sensory perception (ESP) of adult survivors of childhood trauma to cognitive errors when they may be a result of actual experience with ESP. Dissociative tendencies may contribute to precognition, which would be an adaptive skill for children living in unpredictable and traumatic environments. This study investigated the correlation between self-reported childhood abuse and neglect and precognitive abilities in 227 adults. The participants completed the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, comprising subscales measuring emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, and physical and emotional neglect, and completed four online tasks measuring …
Patellar Vs Hamstring Grafts For Acl Reconstruction, Taylor Jernigan
Patellar Vs Hamstring Grafts For Acl Reconstruction, Taylor Jernigan
The PA Department Journal of Medical Science
Abstract
Introduction: The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the most common injuries in orthopedic medicine, resulting in 400,000 reconstructions every year in the United States. Bone-Patellar Tendon-Bone (BPTB) and Hamstring Tendon (HT) grafts are the most common graft types used. The objective of this review is to compare HT grafts and BPTB grafts when it comes to return to sport, returning to pre-injury level, and overall long-term functional outcomes.
Methods: A complete search was conducted using Pub Med to look for randomized controlled trials (RCTs), systematic reviews, and meta-analyses on HT vs BPTB grafts. The variables studied were …
Redefining Intellectual Property Protection: Nfl Plays In The Digital Age, Michael Touma
Redefining Intellectual Property Protection: Nfl Plays In The Digital Age, Michael Touma
Washington Law Review Online
American copyright law is fluid. Its changes have mirrored evolutions in society, be they technological, cultural, or economic. At its core, copyright law exists to promote the progress of the arts and sciences; yet, the law’s outdated nature leaves many creations on the outside looking in. The last substantial copyright legislation to pass through Congress was the Copyright Act of 1976, which was nearly fifty years ago. Much has changed since, including vast technological improvements, new and emerging interests in American society, and now global economic drivers. One industry that meets these characteristics and is not currently afforded protection is …

Emergency Shift To Remote Cbt: Clinicians’ Evolving Experiences, Angela Flanagan M.S.
Selected Full Text Dissertations, 2011-
Since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, remote health services have surged in popularity. This study focuses on the initial experiences of CBT psychologists previously untrained in telehealth during the emergency shift to remote therapy, and how these attitudes and experiences have evolved over the last four years. Participants included nine licensed clinical psychologists previously untrained in remote therapy who were practicing CBT treatment for at least two years before the pandemic. This phenomenological qualitative research design involved semi-structured interviews with these nine psychologists. The analysis revealed three main interpretive themes: (1) Experiences Related to the Human Factor, (2) Experiences …

Interactive Read Aloud Planning Template For The Story, The Letter From The Book Frog And Toad Are Friends, Lauren Dehmer, David Wolff
OER Materials
This is a read-aloud planning template for the story The Letter from the book Frog and Toad are Friends, which holds five stories. The goal of the assignment is to create an effective read-aloud. Research supports these as they can expose children to new words and language structures (Burkins & Yates, 2021). Cunningham et al. (2023) also explain interactive read-alouds as a way to “immerse students in rich content.” The author was given a list of stories from the anthology, The 20th Century Children’s Book Treasury: Picture Books and Stories to Read Aloud, from instructor Dr. David Wolff, who …
