Lived Experiences Of High School Teachers' Professional Development Post-Covid-19 Pandemic In Rural Georgia: A Transcendental Phenomenology Study, Jesse Regalado

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this phenomenological study is to describe the lived experiences of high school teachers' professional development post-COVID-19 pandemic in rural Georgia, U.S.A. The theories guiding the research are Piaget's theory of disequilibration, addressing how one accommodates and assimilates to adapt to change, and Festinger's (1957) theory of cognitive dissonance, explaining how one adapts, assimilates, and accommodates to avoid disharmony. The study's central question is, what are high school teachers' perceptions on the practical or academic professional development they received post-COVID-19 pandemic in rural Georgia, United States, used to promote leadership, teaching mastery, or pedagogical practices? This study utilized …

Narrative Inquiry: Exploring Black Female Professional Counselors’ Storied Experiences Of Supervision, Donald Theophilus Cooper

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Black women supervisees are underrepresented in research. Given the importance of relational connections in women’s lives and how the supervision process occurs in relational interactions of intersecting contextual variables, an investigation into the supervision experiences of Black female professional counselor supervisees was warranted. This narrative inquiry aimed to explore and understand how Black female professional counselor supervisees narrate their supervision experience. The research question focused on how Black female professional counselor supervisees narrated their supervision experience. Eight participants were recruited from social media. They self-identified as Black and female, lived in the United States, and were licensed professional counselors. Narrative …

Targeting beta cell proliferation is an appealing approach to restore glucose control in type 1 diabetes. However, the underlying mechanisms of beta cell proliferation remain incompletely understood, limiting identification of new therapeutic targets. Obesity is a naturally occurring process that potently induces human and rodent beta cell replication, representing an ideal model to study mechanisms of beta cell proliferation. We showed previously acute whole-body

Distinct Attentional Characteristics Of Neurons With Visual Feature Coding In The Primate Brain, Jie Zhang, Runnan Cao, Xiaocang Zhu, Huihui Zhou, Shuo Wang

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Visual attention and object recognition are two critical cognitive functions that shape our perception of the world. While these neural processes converge in the temporal cortex, the nature of their interactions remains largely unclear. Here, we systematically investigated the interplay between visual attention and stimulus feature coding by training macaques to perform a free-gaze visual search task with natural stimuli. Recording from a large number of units across multiple brain areas, we found that units exhibiting visual feature coding showed stronger attentional modulation of responses and spike-local field potential coherence than units without feature coding. Across brain areas, attention directed …

Longitudinal Changes In Aerodigestive Responses To Varying Nipple Properties In Infant Pigs, François D H Gould, Christopher Mayerl, Khaled Adjerid, Jessica Reibel, Nichole Charles, Chloe Edmonds, Rebecca Z German

Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine Departmental Research

Coordination of respiration and swallowing is critical for survival in infant mammals and changes throughout infant maturation. Infants show sensorimotor feeding responses to changes in physical properties of nipples. Commercial nipples are promoted as improving aerodigestive coordination. However, it is unknown how nipple properties influence coordination of respiration and swallowing. Furthermore, how infant-nipple interactions change throughout maturation is not well understood. We designed and manufactured four silicone nipples of the same shape that varied in two parameters: nipple opening diameter and nipple stiffness. We used our validated infant pig model to test the impact of nipple parameters on aerodigestive coordination …

The Impact Of Cannabinoids On Reproductive Function, Daniel Hardy Mar 2025

The Impact Of Cannabinoids On Reproductive Function, Daniel Hardy

Physiology and Pharmacology Publications

In brief: This review article summarizes the effects of pre- or peri-conceptual exposure to cannabinoids on female and male reproductive function, along with pregnancy outcomes from 2014 to 2024. In particular, it addresses the gaps in knowledge regarding the specific contributions of the major constituents of cannabis, THC and CBD, on reproduction. Abstract: With increased use of cannabis worldwide, especially in our young adult population, there is a great impetus to understand the impact of cannabis and its constituents (i.e. THC and CBD) on pregnancy, fetal outcomes and male and female reproductive function. This review assessed the current evidence (2014–2024) …

Bryce Canyon Aspen: Recent Trends, Future Actions, Paul C. Rogers

Aspen Bibliography

In cooperation with Bryce Canyon National Park, we undertook a survey of quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides Michx.) conditions throughout the Park with the intention of better understanding conditions and prescribing corrective measures where needed. There are clear disparities within the Park between sustainable aspen conditions and failing stands. Based on condition of mature trees, but most importantly regeneration and recruitment of juvenile stems, most aspen forests within Bryce Canyon are in poor condition. Aspen recruitment—generally sapling-sized trees that have survived browsing ungulates—is the most important metric of future stand resilience and here we found 83% of all aspen sample …

Faculty Research 2025

Accumulation of DNA damage can accelerate aging through cellular senescence. Previously, we established a Drosophila model to investigate the effects of radiation-induced DNA damage on the intestine. In this model, we examined irradiation-responsive senescence in the fly intestine. Through an unbiased genome-wide association study (GWAS) utilizing 156 strains from the Drosophila Genetic Reference Panel (DGRP), we identified meltrin (the drosophila orthologue of mammalian ADAM19) as a potential modulator of the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP). Knockdown of meltrin resulted in reduced gut permeability, DNA damage, and expression of the senescence marker β-galactosidase (SA-β-gal) in the fly gut following irradiation. Additionally, inhibition …

Tyranny Of The Inbox: Managing The Us National Security Agenda, Neil N. Snyder Mar 2025

Tyranny Of The Inbox: Managing The Us National Security Agenda, Neil N. Snyder

The US Army War College Quarterly: Parameters

Presidential management style, foreign policy preferences, and domestic political interests all affect the national security agenda. International crises, however, are particularly likely to garner the attention of the National Security Council. This article analyzes a novel data set of all the issues raised at National Security Council meetings from 1947 to 1993 and finds that contemporaneous crises are very likely to be discussed, but that crisis management attenuates the Council’s attention to noncrisis national security matters. The results suggest presidents focus on crises at the expense of other strategic matters, and they do so when political conditions favor crisis management.

Characterization Of Novel Arrhythmogenic Patterns Arising Secondary To Heterogeneous Expression And Activation Of Nav1.8, Zhong-He Zhang, Hector Barajas-Martinez, Hong-Yi Duan, Guo-Hua Fan, Hong Jiang, Charles Antzelevitch, Hao Xia, Dan Hu Mar 2025

Characterization Of Novel Arrhythmogenic Patterns Arising Secondary To Heterogeneous Expression And Activation Of Nav1.8, Zhong-He Zhang, Hector Barajas-Martinez, Hong-Yi Duan, Guo-Hua Fan, Hong Jiang, Charles Antzelevitch, Hao Xia, Dan Hu

Department of Medicine Faculty Papers

Background: Previous studies suggested that SCN10A/Nav1.8 may influence cardiac electrophysiology and the susceptibility to cardiac arrhythmias. Notably, the expression of SCN10A is not uniform, showing variable expression in each cardiac chamber. The present study aims to explore the functional significance of Nav1.8 expression among different cell types present in the ventricular myocardium.

Methods: The effect of the specific Nav1.8 blocker, A-803467, on action potential was recorded from epicardial, mid-myocardial (M cells) and Purkinje tissue slices isolated from the canine left ventricle using standard microelectrode techniques and on late sodium current from Purkinje cells using patch-clamp techniques.

Results: A-803467 treatment …

Taking Proportionality Seriously: A Countercultural Approach, Suzanne Chiodo Mar 2025

Taking Proportionality Seriously: A Countercultural Approach, Suzanne Chiodo

Articles & Book Chapters

Proportionality was introduced into Ontario’s Rules of Civil Procedure in 2008. A plain reading of Rules 1.04(1) and (1.1) is the ‘traditional’ interpretation of proportionality: that proportionality is merely the means of furthering efficiency and economy in individual cases, with the aim of better securing substantive justice on the merits in those cases. The relative measure is what is at stake in the individual case. This article suggests a counter-cultural interpretation: that proportionality is equal in importance to substantive justice and that, in certain circumstances, substantive justice in individual cases must give way to proportionality, in order to secure the …
