Exercise-Induced Gene Expression Profiles In Adults With Obesity: A Systematic Review Of Molecular Adaptation, Brandon Galvan, Luis Alberto Flores, Flor Isela Torres-Rojo, Natanael Cervantes-Hernández, Cinthia Verónica Villegas-Balderrama, Liliana Aracely Enríquez-Del-Castillo

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: Obesity is a multifactorial and chronic condition characterized by excess adiposity and systemic low-grade inflammation. Exercise exerts metabolic and anti-inflammatory effects partly mediated through gene expression modulation in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue. However, heterogeneous responses among obese individuals suggest that genetic and epigenetic mechanisms shape exercise adaptation. Objective: This systematic review aimed to identify the genes and molecular pathways modulated by physical exercise in adults with obesity, and to classify them according to their biological functions across different exercise modalities. Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, randomized controlled trials were searched in PubMed, SpringerLink, Science Direct, Cochrane, LILACS, Web of …

The Recovery Of Meaning In A Digital Age: E-Discovery And The Renewal Of Judgment, William F. Hamilton Jun 2026

The Recovery Of Meaning In A Digital Age: E-Discovery And The Renewal Of Judgment, William F. Hamilton

Journal of Technology Law & Policy

Modern litigation unfolds within a dense and expanding digital environment. Nearly every human activity now leaves behind emails, documents, metadata, collaborative communications, and machine-generated records that together form the factual foundation of contemporary litigation. This Article argues that electronic discovery is not merely a technical, managerial, or compliance process, but a core litigation practice concerned with the recovery, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of the factual world on which judgment depends.

Tracing the evolution of discovery from its twentieth-century roots to the present era of pervasive digital evidence, this Article shows how electronically stored information (ESI) continues to alter the dynamics of …

The Coming Use And Misuse Of Artificial Intelligence In The Courtroom: A Judicial Perspective And Proposal, William Matthewman Jun 2026

The Coming Use And Misuse Of Artificial Intelligence In The Courtroom: A Judicial Perspective And Proposal, William Matthewman

Journal of Technology Law & Policy

While attorneys, litigants, and judges have always had to be vigilant for the attempted introduction of improperly enhanced or fabricated evidence in court proceedings, the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its subset, Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI), has substantially increased the stakes. The task of identifying and exposing such fake or improperly enhanced AI evidence has become significantly more challenging. The current Federal Rules of Evidence and the Federal Rules of Civil and Criminal Procedure are insufficient to effectively address the coming advance of AI-generated or AI-enhanced evidence. The rules must be amended, in certain respects, to provide attorneys, litigants, …

Who Has "Possession, Custody, Or Control" Of The Employee's Personal Mobile Device? Time For Amendments To The Federal Rules, Xavier Rodriguez

Journal of Technology Law & Policy

As mobile devices have become indispensable tools for professional communication, the distinction between personal and business data has blurred—creating critical challenges for litigators and organizations navigating discovery obligations. This Article explores the evolving jurisprudence surrounding whether and when a corporate defendant has “possession, custody, or control” over data stored on an employee’s personal mobile device. Drawing from a recorded podcast conversation and expanding on the legal foundations, I scrutinize the two primary frameworks courts use to analyze control—the “legal right” test and the “practical ability” test—and question their fitness in the context of modern mobile usage patterns.

This Article evaluates …

Teaching A Stand-Alone Course On Burney, Lorna J. Clark Jun 2026

Teaching A Stand-Alone Course On Burney, Lorna J. Clark

ABO: Interactive Journal for Women in the Arts, 1640–1830

This essay outlines a stand-alone course on Frances Burney, suggesting that she offers a good entry point into eighteenth-century studies. Given that she wrote in so many genres—novels, plays, journals, and letters—such a course avoids the narrowness which often marks a single author course. In twelve weeks, the course studied ten works: four novels, five plays (three comedies and two tragedies) and a selection of journals and letters. The latter describes well-known figures in Burney’s social and literary networks in eighteenth-century London and leads to discussion of techniques of the epistolary, of diary-writing and of women’s life-writing. Burney’s novels are …

Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia Associated With Leptospirosis: A Rare Complication, Anum Waqar, Furqan Mazhar, Mahrukh Afzal, Sadia Razzaq, Sana Ijaz

HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine

Introduction

Autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) is rare but potentially life-threatening complication of leptospirosis, a zoonotic infection caused by the Leptospira species. Autoimmune hemolytic anemia occurs when the immune system targets red blood cells, resulting in hemolysis and anemia. The relationship between leptospirosis and AIHA is uncommon and often under-recognized, which can delay diagnosis and management. This case highlights the importance of considering hematologic complications in leptospirosis.

Case Presentation

A 23-year-old male presented with low-grade fever, productive cough, shortness of breath, jaundice, and pallor for 15 days. On examination, he was pale and icteric with bilateral chest crepitations. Laboratory studies showed …

A Crisis For Utopia: Jameson, The Collective, And The Future Of World Literature, Trevor Jackson Jun 2026

A Crisis For Utopia: Jameson, The Collective, And The Future Of World Literature, Trevor Jackson

CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture

Working with Fredric Jameson’s influential discussions of utopia and world literature, the essay suggests that the prospect of utopia is frightening and also possibly boring insofar as it threatens to drain away the already waning possibility of experience in a postmodern, globalized world. In this world, resentment of the present seems to go hand in hand with a nostalgia for a fictitious past, underscoring the difficulty of conceptualizing new social, cultural, and economic arrangements. Viewing world literature as a possible source of a new utopian thought, a utopia unlimited to its contemporary dystopian guises, the essay retraces Jameson’s pronouncements on …

Zheng Zhenduo And The Problem Of Priority In World Literature, Daniel M. Dooghan Jun 2026

Zheng Zhenduo And The Problem Of Priority In World Literature, Daniel M. Dooghan

CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture

This essay investigates how Zheng Zhenduo (郑振铎 1898–1958) developed a theory of world literature in response to threats to China both politically from without and culturally from within. Centered on an analysis of his 1922 article “A View on the Unification of Literature” (Wenxue de tongyiguan 文學的統一觀), the essay argues that although Zheng believed like many of his contemporaries in the transformative effects of reading world literature in translation, that does not constitute the entirety of his theorization of world literature. Instead, he accepted the first-move advantage of other national literatures in defining both world literary standards and literature …

Beyond The Great Wall: Zheng Zhenduo’S “Unification” Of World Literature At The Juncture Of China’S May Fourth And Post-World War I Era, Wenxin Liang

CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture

This article examines Chinese literary scholar Zheng Zhenduo’s 1922 essay “A View on the Unification of Literature” (Wenxue de tongyiguan 文學的統一觀) as a counter-narrative to both imperial isolationism and post-World War I nationalist fragmentation. Writing at the intersection of China’s May Fourth Movement and the global post-war crisis, Zheng developed a theory of world literature that challenged both Goethean Eurocentrism and the compartmentalization of comparative literary studies. Through systematic analysis of Zheng’s theoretical writings, editorial projects, and pioneering work on folk literature (suwenxue 俗文學), this article demonstrates that Zheng’s project of “the unification of literature” operated on three …

Low-Bandwidth Call Mode Using Audio-Derived Expression And Gesture Parameter Streaming, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

Techniques are described for a low-bandwidth call mode that replaces camera video transmission with streaming of audio-derived avatar animation parameters. During a real-time call, endpoints exchange capability information and negotiate an operating tier specifying parameter formats, update rates, and synchronization expectations. In response to user input or automatically upon degraded network conditions (e.g., low uplink bandwidth, loss, or jitter), a sender disables video frame transmission and processes speech audio in short windows using an on-device model to produce a time-stamped parameter stream including visemes and optionally expression and gesture parameters with confidence scores. The stream is adapted in rate, precision, …

Performance Of Buffer Zones In Tanzania: A Case Of Maswa Game Reserve, 1950s-2010s, James Benedict Kuboja

Zamani: A Journal of African Historical Studies

National parks as core protected areas are universally regarded as the most important wildlife conservancies as they are protecting pristine nature or untouched wilderness. For this reason, global conservationists, with the assistance of colonial governments, introduced buffer zones in a bid to protect important protected areas from poaching and habitat destruction. Despite the promulgation of these buffer zones from the 1950s, scholars have not exhaustively evaluated their effectiveness in the conservation of wildlife resources within core protected areas and wildlife ecosystems at large. Using the case of Maswa Game Reserve in the Serengeti Mara Ecosystem, this article argues that internal …

Historicising Nyerere’S Presidency In The Nyakyusa Mythical Narratives, Ignas Fedeo Jun 2026

Historicising Nyerere’S Presidency In The Nyakyusa Mythical Narratives, Ignas Fedeo

Zamani: A Journal of African Historical Studies

Julius K Nyerere, the founding President of Tanzania, held office from 1962 to 1985. Much has been written about Nyerere's presidency, with the literature generally falling into two categories: strong advocacy for his decisions, actions, and ideas, and pointed criticism against him. Using narrative and new historicism theories, this article examines the recreation of the history of Nyerere’s presidency in local narratives, specifically Nyakyusa myths. The myths were collected using the oral history interviews from Kyela and Busokelo districts in Tanzania. The Nyakyusa believe that Nyerere was endowed with immense mystical powers, some of which embedded in his stick and …

Generative Endurance Logic: An Axiomatic Framework For Reasoning About Outcome-Generating Objects Under Constraints, Hafiz Burhan Ul Haq, Muhammad Nauman Irshad

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

This paper introduces Generative Endurance Logic (GEL), a formal framework for studying objects through the outcomes they can produce. In many cases, an object cannot be judged only by a fixed truth value, score, or utility value. A rule, model, action, or strategy may behave well in one situation but fail when the context changes or when small perturbations occur. GEL addresses this issue by treating each object as a generator of outcomes. Each object a is linked to a generation map Ga:X×Ω→Y, where X is the context space, Ω is the …

Context-Specific Legitimacy In English Language Teaching: Rethinking Nativeness In The Korean Efl Context, Kenn Arcenal, Teri An Joy G. Magpale Jun 2026

Context-Specific Legitimacy In English Language Teaching: Rethinking Nativeness In The Korean Efl Context, Kenn Arcenal, Teri An Joy G. Magpale

Journal of English and Applied Linguistics

Although non-native English-speaking teachers now make up the majority of the global ELT workforce, perceived nativeness continues to function as an enduring filter in hiring and evaluation. This perspective paper examines how that filter operates unevenly across the institutional sectors of South Korea’s EFL labor market, arguing that Filipino English Teachers (FETs) face a distributive rather than a uniformly ideological inequity, with the biggest disadvantage concentrated in commercially driven private academies. Drawing on two companion studies of FETs working across Korean academic sectors (Magpale & Arcenal, 2025, in press) and integrating more recent scholarship on native-speakerism with comparative evidence from …
