Examining Factors Influencing Ultra- Processed Food Consumption Among Liberty University Students Aged 18 And Older, Ginika Rosemary Muomah
Examining Factors Influencing Ultra- Processed Food Consumption Among Liberty University Students Aged 18 And Older, Ginika Rosemary Muomah
Masters Theses
Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) are widely consumed among college students and are linked to adverse health outcomes including obesity, poor mental health, and cardiometabolic disease. Despite their rising prevalence, limited research has examined psychosocial and behavioral factors influencing UPF intake within Christian university settings. This study investigated demographic, behavioral, and psychosocial predictors of UPF consumption among Liberty University students, guided by the Health Belief Model (HBM). A cross-sectional survey of students aged 18 and older (N = 337) was conducted. After excluding incomplete or invalid responses, 276 cases remained. The 25-item survey assessed UPF intake, HBM constructs, and demographics. Descriptive statistics …

Pancreatic/PKR-like endoplasmic reticulum (ER) kinase (PERK) is a kinase that, in response to ER stress, mediates dual homeostatic and pro-apoptotic signaling. Thus, intricate regulation is required for physiological function. Attempts to modulate PERK activity have shown that the determinants of adaptive vs. maladaptive signaling remain ambiguous. Here, with purified protein, we provide evidence that PERK binds copper, identifies residues required for interaction, and demonstrates that copper is necessary for kinase activity. Furthermore, cellular PERK activity can be modulated via copper availability, and this regulatory relationship can be manipulated to dictate ER stress tolerance. Critically, these phenomena translate to phenotypes in …

The Glass Menagerie, Tennessee Williams
Taylor Theatre Playbills
The playbill for Taylor University's performance of The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams.
Performed September 25-28, 2025 in the Mitchell Theatre at Taylor University.
At its heart, The Glass Menagerie is a story about the grace that vulnerability makes possible. The Wingfield family—Tom, Amanda, and Laura—are fragile, flawed, and fiercely human. Their lives are marked by disappointment and desire, yet Williams invites us to approach them with tenderness. Laura’s glass animals, so delicate and beautiful, are not just a metaphor for her own inner world but for the human spirit itself—easily broken, but capable of reflecting light in ways that …

Face Off: Evaluating Virtual Human Expressions And Non-Tracking Control Methods In Vr, J K Sangeeth Chandran, Marisa Llorens Salvador, Cathy Ennis
Conference papers
Social virtual reality (VR) applications have become more ubiquitous in recent years; central to this is the communication pipeline, how users perceive virtual human facial expressions, and how they control them in real time, especially when using VR devices without face-tracking. We investigated both aspects in a set of experiments. Firstly, we compared the perception of virtual human emotions on a traditional 2D screen and in VR. In a second experiment, we used a validated set of stimuli to compare three different control methods for manipulating an avatar’s facial expressions in VR. These control methods utilize non-tracking control techniques, which …

Antibiotic resistance is a threat to human health, yet recent work highlights how loss of resistance may drive pathogenesis in some bacteria. In two recent studies, we found that β-lactam antibiotics and nutrient stresses faced during infection selected for genetic inactivation of the Pseudomonas aeruginosa antibiotic efflux pump mexEFoprN. Unexpectedly, efflux pump mutations increased P. aeruginosa virulence during infection; however, neither the prevalence of mexEFoprN inactivating mutations in real human infections, nor the mechanisms driving increased virulence of efflux pump mutants are known. We hypothesized that human infection would select for virulence enhancing mutations. Using genome sequencing of clinical isolates, …

Prokaryotic Expression Of Recombinant Plectasin Optimization Of High-Density Fermentation Conditions And Antibacterial Activity, Su Yan, Li Rong
Prokaryotic Expression Of Recombinant Plectasin Optimization Of High-Density Fermentation Conditions And Antibacterial Activity, Su Yan, Li Rong
Food and Machinery
[Objective] To construct a recombinant strain expressing the antimicrobial peptide Plectasin, optimize the high-density fermentation conditions of the recombinant strain, and evaluate the antibacterial activity of the purified recombinant peptide produced under optimized conditions. [Methods] To improve soluble expression of the target protein, the plectasin gene was synthesized and optimized based on codon preference of the prokaryotic expression system with signal peptide deletion. The optimized gene was cloned into the pET32a(+) expression vector to construct the recombinant plasmid pET 32a-plectasin, which was transformed into Escherichia coli BL21(DE3)/pLysS competent cells. Single-factor and orthogonal experiments were designed to optimize the parameters of …

Illustrations For A Scientific Review Article Publication : Human Stem Cell-Derived Organoids, Sunghwan Bae
Theses
This thesis explores the role of scientific illustration in improving the comprehension of complex scientific concepts. It traces the historical development of illustrations in scientific literature and examines their functions in both research and review articles. The central contribution of this work is the development of twelve vector-based illustrations that elucidate the applications of human organoids within a review article context. These visuals transform intricate ideas into clear, engaging representations, supported by extensive research and verification to maintain scientific accuracy. The thesis concludes by addressing the future of scientific illustration, advocating for reader-oriented design approaches and the use of innovative …

What Is The Relationship Between Herzberg’S Motivation And Hygiene Variables And The Job Satisfaction Of Public Administrators?, Robert Curtis Hayes
What Is The Relationship Between Herzberg’S Motivation And Hygiene Variables And The Job Satisfaction Of Public Administrators?, Robert Curtis Hayes
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
What is the relationship between the variables identified by Herzberg’s motivation-hygiene theory, also known as two-factor theory, and the job satisfaction of public administrators? How can public employers use this theory to advance policies and environments conducive to job satisfaction for their workforces? The problem was a general lack of consensus among the results of scholarly studies investigating the theory. The purpose was to add to the overall body of research toward or against a consensus in a meaningful way. This dissertation employed secondary data to test Herzberg’s theory on bureaucrats. The sample size was limited to the 625,568 workers …
