Carbon ion radiation therapy (CIRT) is a high-LET radiotherapy, which distinguishes itself from traditional low-LET radiation, such as photons and protons, through its unique physical aspects, biological attributes, and the dramatically increased damage it causes within cellular DNA. Given its distinctive characteristics, it is expected to improve the therapeutic ratio of radiation treatments and enhance treatment outcomes in traditionally radiation-resistant tumor histologies. Chilling, freezing, and repeated freeze–thaw cycles are common meat preservation methods; however, they can alter key physicochemical properties. Comparative data across different species under standardized conditions are limited. To compare the effects of chilled storage, frozen storage, and repeated freeze–thaw cycles on pH, water-holding capacity (WHC), thaw loss, cooking loss, and drip loss in buffen (buffalo), chevon (goat), and chicken meat. This study investigated the effects of supplementing low-protein diets with valine (Val), isoleucine (Ile), and tryptophan (Trp) on growth performance, carcass traits, blood parameters, and nitrogen excretion in broiler chickens. A total of 168 one-day-old unsexed Ross-308 broiler chicks were randomly divided into six groups: a positive control (PC) fed a basal diet, a negative control (NC) fed a low-protein diet supplemented with six essential amino acids, and four groups fed the NC diet with additional Val+Ile (5% or 10%) and Trp (5% or 10%). The research aimed to examine and compare the key socioeconomic and communication factors influencing wheat farmers’ adoption and non-adoption of conservation agriculture (CA) techniques in Nineveh Governorate, Iraq, during the 2023–2024 agricultural season. A total of 450 respondents were selected for the study—225 adopters (representing the entire group of CA adopters) and 225 non-adopters—drawn from a total farming population of 1,061 within the same adoption areas of Nineveh Governorate.

Phytoremediation is an eco-friendly and effective method that uses plants to reduce heavy metal pollution by absorbing and accumulating contaminants from the environment. This research focused on the native Al-Ashar plant and examined its potential as a bioindicator and agent for cleaning heavy metal contamination near a cement factory in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Soil and plant samples were gathered from sites at different distances from the factory (5 m, 50 m, 100 m), including a control site, and analyzed for metals such as copper, iron, manganese, chromium, cobalt, lead, and nickel.

Topic importance: Invasive candidiasis (IC) is a common complication in patients in ICUs. IC can be divided into bloodstream infections (candidemia) and deep-seated infections. Candida infections are associated with high mortality and longer hospital stays. Moreover, the emergence of Candida auris and other species prone to cause ICU outbreaks highlights the importance of this pathogen.

Review findings: Candidemia represents about 20% of bloodstream infections in ICU patients, whereas intraabdominal candidiasis, the most common form of deep-seated infection, predominantly affects surgical ICU patients. Background: The circadian clock is an evolutionarily conserved system that orchestrates 24-h physiological rhythms through transcriptional and translational feedback loops. Mounting evidence suggests a bidirectional relationship between circadian rhythm alteration and disease progression, positioning the circadian clock as a potential therapeutic target. Due to the scarcity of high-resolution temporal omics data, it remains very challenging to elucidate the underlying regulatory mechanisms of the circadian system. Early detection of cognitive decline and efficient medical image analysis remain critical challenges in healthcare. Traditional clinical assessments are infrequent and resource-intensive, while everyday speech data and unlabeled medical images remain largely unexploited. This dissertation develops computational methods integrating machine learning and artificial intelligence across speech, text, and imaging modalities to address challenges in medical data processing. For cognitive monitoring, this work first introduces methods using voice assistant systems to collect longitudinal speech data in home environments, demonstrating that incorporating historical session patterns significantly enhances detection of mild cognitive impairment. Oil palm leaf extract (OPLE) contains abundant phenolic and flavonoid compounds with recognized antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential; however, its pharmacological applications remain underexplored. This study aimed to optimize the enrichment process of OPLE and characterize its bioactive compounds using integrated in vitro and in silico approaches. The extraction was optimized by incorporating trichloroacetic acid and extending the incubation time to 48 h, resulting in significantly increased total phenolic content and antioxidant activity compared with the control. LC–MS/MS profiling identified 14 flavonoid compounds with diverse biological functions. Shigella flexneri can cause shigellosis, which results in high fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or death. This study developed a detection method based on real-time polymerase chain reaction that targets the sfmD gene of S. flexneri given that the virulence factor encoded by this gene is thought to facilitate adhesion to a host surface. The proposed method involves primer design, DNA isolation, the optimization of primer annealing temperature, and confirmation, specificity, and sensitivity tests. The Terrestrial Gartersnake (Thamnophis elegans) is a dietary generalist occurring in the western half of the United States, southwestern Canada, and northern Mexico. Terrestrial Gartersnakes are known to consume a variety of small mammals, including voles (Microtus). To check whether a combination of several plants enhances bioactivities, the current study was designed. Methanol, aqueous and n-hexane solvents were used to prepare PHF of Syzgium cumini, Origanum vulgare, Aloe vera barbadensis Miller and Gymnema sylvestre. The study examined economic analysis and technical efficiency of cassava production in rural household in Yewa South local Government area of Ogun state. Structure questionnaires were administered to one hundred registered cassava farmers within the ten (10) villages. Descriptive and inferential statistics was used to analyze the data; results revealed that the age of the cassava farmers ranged between (25 – 45) years. Only 55.0 % of the farmers were married, having both primary and secondary education respectively, majority (63.0 %) having 11-15 years of experience. Archaeological studies on roads in Indonesia remain relatively limited, although international research indicates that roads are not merely transportation infrastructure, but also embody social, political, and symbolic dimensions. Gender-based and sexual violence (GBSV) remains a pervasive problem in higher education, disproportionately affecting marginalized students and undermining their safety, well-being, and academic success. Post-secondary institutions (PSIs) increasingly rely on peer educators (PeerEds) to deliver prevention and response programs, leveraging their shared student experience to foster trust and engagement. This study explores the motivations and experiences of GBSV PeerEds in Canada and the United States, revealing how personal trauma, institutional critique, and allyship drive their involvement. This study proposes an adaptive, energy-aware communication strategy for HIoT devices that minimizes energy consumption while ensuring rapid data delivery during critical health events. Introduction: Childhood obesity and related cardiovascular risks reflect the interplay of genetic predispositions and socioeconomic adversity. Appalachia’s poverty, limited health care, and educational gaps worsen family health risks, driving early cardio-metabolic problems in children, highlighting the need for effective interventions.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the association of family health history and parental education with BMI, BP, and lipid profiles among 5th grade children in West Virginia (WV).

Traversing The Internal And External Worlds: An Analysis Of Du Fu’S Use Of Nature Imagery, Arwen Mox

Born in 712, the Chinese poet Du Fu lived in the cultural peak of the High Tang and the devastating events and aftermath of the An Lushan Rebellion in 755. This essay explores how Du Fu employs nature imagery as a medium for reflection the internal and external worlds. By tracking the use of this motif across the three major periods of his work as embodied in three different poems, the nuanced shifts in his portrayal of nature and humanity becomes apparent. This essay argues that nature is a versatile medium within Du Fu’s work.

Under The Influence: New York’S Crisis Of Addiction, Exploitation, And Drug Policy Within Depression-Era Films, Simone White

Rushton Journal of Undergraduate Humanities Research

During the 1930s, New York City stood at the center of media innovation and cultural influence. It was also the center of the continuing opioid epidemic and a pivotal site for the reception and promotion of addiction films. This article argues that Depression-era films, The Struggle (1931), Narcotic (1933), and Assassin of Youth (1938), reflected economic, political, and moral anxieties surrounding drug abuse. Using National Board of Review records, studio pressbooks, and contemporary periodicals, this study examines how cinematic portrayals of addiction influenced ideologies, criminalized users, and deepened social stigma.
