An Integration Of Quality Assurance And Existing Worship Components: A Model To Improve Worship In The Small Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Nelson Fernando De Oliveira

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

Corporate worship is an experience that needs to be relevant to all. Small-church leaders face the challenge of transforming existing worship components into a more dynamic service, and increasing member involvement. Leaders at small churches have been known to express frustration trying to improve lives, and to worship in spirit and truth. Currently, there is little or no interface between the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) components of the worship service (e.g., music, offering, preaching, and Scripture reading) and current discussions of quality assurance in relationship to a more vibrant corporate worship experience. There is a need to develop a model …

"An Evaluation Of Praise Music As A Genre For Incorporation Into Lutheran Worship", Randy Schultz Apr 1999

"An Evaluation Of Praise Music As A Genre For Incorporation Into Lutheran Worship", Randy Schultz

Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project

Luther was truly a great liturgist. Along with his reform of the Mass, which included his Formula Missae and his Deutsche Messe, he also produced two baptismal rites, an Order of Marriage, an Order for Confession, a German and Latin Litany, and an Ordination Rite. He also contributed commentary on worship in general, wrote several hymns, and produced music. For the purpose of this project we will focus primarily on his reform of the Mass and his selection of hymns.

New Pericopal-Based Hymnody For Lutheran Corporate Worship, Wilfred Karsten Sep 1996

New Pericopal-Based Hymnody For Lutheran Corporate Worship, Wilfred Karsten

Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project

There are gaps where the corpus of hymnody in Lutheran Worship fails to support the lectionary used by that hymnal. This project produces thirteen new hymn texts which seek to fill part of that gap.

An analysis of Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16 shows that there may be a variety of congregational song used in the Divine Service, but this song must always be didactic in character. An examination of the hymnody of the Reformation shows that congregational song was meant to serve a liturgical purpose. An appendix compares Lutheran Worship hymn text scriptural allusions with its lectionary.

An Entry Level Lutheran Liturgy For Members And Guest, David Preuss May 1995

An Entry Level Lutheran Liturgy For Members And Guest, David Preuss

Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project

Influences inside and outside the Lutheran Church are pressing for change in worship style from liturgical to some free form alternative. Often the purpose is to make it easier for guests without a liturgical background to participate. How can Lutheran congregations and pastors make their worship service more "user-friendly” without abandoning their liturgical link with the church of all ages and places?

First, establish the essence of Lutheran liturgical worship. How did the Lutheran Reformation deal with the need for changes? How are pastors today attempting to resolve the issue? How do we evaluate these endeavors?

One resolution is to …

Worship And The Church's Mission, Eduard R. Riegert Jan 1983

Worship And The Church's Mission, Eduard R. Riegert

Consensus

The article contends that when the church creates, especially in and through worship, her own world, her mission will be truncated and/or narrowly defined; when it accepts God's created world, her worship will empower mission. Worship as ritual has enormous power to create a special world--something observable in 'ethnic' congregations and cults--and mission then becomes the maintaining of it. Nevertheless, Scripture and theology teach that creating a special world and relegating God to it is idolatry. Four ways in which worship may rediscover and recover God's world so that it may empower the church's mission to that world are discussed.

To Know And To Do: A Review Article On Training Children In The Work Of Worship, George W. Hoyer Apr 1966

To Know And To Do: A Review Article On Training Children In The Work Of Worship, George W. Hoyer

Concordia Theological Monthly

Learning How Children Worship is the title of a recent book by Grace W. McGavran. So many things are left unsaid in this book about the God who is to be worshiped and about the tremendous things which that God has done and does to make worship by the children of men possible that the critical theological reader might miss the significance of the major thing which is being said. Miss McGavran poses the question: "Are the children aware of the times of worship and what it should be for them - a conscious effort to enter into the presence …

Theology And Church Music As Bearers And Interpreters Of The Verbum Dei, Walter B. Buszin Jan 1961

Theology And Church Music As Bearers And Interpreters Of The Verbum Dei, Walter B. Buszin

Concordia Theological Monthly

In the very first issue of Musik und Kirche, published in January/February 1930, Christhard Mahrenholz stated in his foreword that no age or generation can afford simply to take for granted that a relationship exists between the church and her music. Mahrenholz emphasized at the time that the very nature of the problems involved demands that each generation study this question anew.

Education In Meaningful Worship For The Confirmation Class, Paul Wagner Jun 1958

Education In Meaningful Worship For The Confirmation Class, Paul Wagner

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The problem undertaken by the thesis is tied to this need for meaningful worship and the lack of materials. While books and articles have appeared from time to time, they have all been concerned primarily with phases of parish education other than the confirmation class. In Missouri Synod circles there have been only a very few significant works on worship education at any level. The purpose,, therefore, was to survey as many works in this area as time would permit and synthesize the findings into a workable approach toward the teaching of worship and the Liturgy in the confirmation class.

Leiturgia-An Opus Magnum In The Making, Walter E. Buszin Jun 1953

Leiturgia-An Opus Magnum In The Making, Walter E. Buszin

Concordia Theological Monthly

The liturgical revival which is wending its way through the churches of Christendom today has made its influence felt also within the Lutheran Church. This movement is not chiefly a seeking after forms and ceremonies, nor is it merely a reaction against irreverent and amorphous worship practices. While excesses are to be noted within the movement, it is hardly just and fair to regard these as inevitable and essential earmarks of this liturgical revival, since revivals and movements in areas other than the liturgical likewise suffer because of the intemperate endeavors of a zealotistic minority.
