Industrial Arts For Junior High School Girls Household Maintenance And Repairs, Lyman Nels Crane

Graduate Student Research Papers

As the complexion of our modern social environment becomes increasingly technical, the burdens of educating the people for the present and the future become quite cumbersome. Within tho framework of all educational disciplines the challenge of "never-ending" changes must be accepted and the best solutions expedited. To adequately prepare youth for purposeful citizenship within an automated society, educators must be aware of the recquirements and make every possible effort to fulfill them. This study is the result of an attemt to meet some of these changing needs within our society. The requirements thrust upon the housewife of today in basic …

Jonathan Swift And Women, Gloria Hayden Jun 1966

Jonathan Swift And Women, Gloria Hayden

All Master's Theses

Before any proper study may be made of Swift's attitude toward women, as exemplified in his life and as expressed in his writings, it would seem advisable to review briefly woman's place in society during the period of Swift's mature life. Certainly no just conclusions could be reached regarding the problem of Swift and women unless the study were predicated on an awareness of the position of women in the economic, educational and social life of, roughly, the first half of the eighteenth century.

Adolescent Attitudes Toward The Employment Of Women, Ann Leigh Adams

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The past twenty-five years has brought about a substantial increase in the number of American women participating in the labor force. In 1940, approximately 12.8 million women were involved in employment outside the home; this was 25 percent of the total female population 14 years of age and over. By 1964, the number of employed women had doubled; there were then 25.8 million women workers. Out-of-the-home employment was actively engaging 37 percent of American women (7, p. 301). However, not only has there been an increase in the number of workers; there are also changes in the percent of women …

Comparisons Of Marital Role Conceptions Of Men And Women, Sandra Jorgensen Christensen

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

During the past century, vast and rapid changes have transpired in our national life. They have been occasioned by extensive technological, social, and industrial changes and by the emergence of cheap, fast transportation, new techniques for preservation of food, and other basic inventions. Many changes, too, have been brought about in American courtship, marriage, and family living patterns. Some of the most far-reaching changes have been those in the social and psychological roles of the individual in relation to the family.

Women In The Peace Corps, Peace Corps (U.S.) Jan 1962

Women In The Peace Corps, Peace Corps (U.S.)

Brochures

"No longer is it true —as Euripedes said it was true in the 4th Century B.C. —that "a woman should be good for everything at home, but abroad, good for nothing." For the Peace Corps has already sent abroad several hundred women who are serving in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Of the Volunteers now overseas, one third are women. They are teachers, nurses, home economists, social workers, laboratory technicians, and rural development workers. The record they are writing, supported by requests from 30 countries for 2,000 more like them, proves that Euripedes under-estimated the power of a woman — …

Two Women From The Past, Barbara Goodwyn May 1961

Two Women From The Past, Barbara Goodwyn

Honors Theses

The Elizabethan period was undoubtedly one of the richest in the history of England. After a period of turmoil, Elizabeth's reign gave England a time of internal peace. Making the best of the opportunity, the English burst out in all directions: exploration,. drama, trade, poetry. The importance of women grew in this period along with everything else, with a natural development of freedom. Duke Frederick of Wuttemberg, visiting England in 1602, remarked that "the women have more liberty than perhaps in any other place." Twentieth century minds would disagree that the women had freedom, but in comparison to other countries …

Realism, Heroines, Flaubert, George Gouldin Apr 1961

Realism, Heroines, Flaubert, George Gouldin

Master's Theses

Since Flaubert has been called "le chef de l'ecole realiste", an attempt will be made in this thesis to show how he used realism in the treatment of heroines in his novels. The first chapter will be dedicated to realism itself, showing first how the movement began in France in the mid-nineteenth century before Flaubert and Balzac were considered realists, followed by a modern definition and characteristics, such as: truth, materialism, scientific approach, documentary method, tediousness, mediocrity, sympathy with ordinary life and sociological features.

The other four chapters will be dedicated to Flaubert' s main heroines. Each chapter will have …

The appellee was employed as a chambermaid in the hotel of appellant at less than the minimum wage prescribed, and brought suit to recover the difference between these amounts. The state court gave judgment for the appellee, and on certiorari the Supreme Court held that the statute was valid and …
