Worker advocates seeking to affect labour policy change in the United States have shifted their attention and energy to states and localities in a move that has been called the “new labour federalism.” new labour federalism has broadened the scope of public worker protections, while also making the enforcement of those protections even more necessary. In this article, we draw on interviews with agencies and advocates, analysis of agency enforcement data, violation estimates, and publicly available information to understand better how federalism has created both opportunities and challenges for workers, employers, and agencies tasked with enforcing employment standards. Since 1949 Argentina has developed nuclear power plants (NPPs), overcoming political instability and financial barriers, to eventually succeed in the activation of Latin America’s first nuclear power plant, Atucha-1, in 1974. However, given the ample means of electrical production though fossil fuels and hydroelectric power, NPPs in Argentina present a paradoxical means of electrical production. This paper analyzes the history of Argentina’s nuclear power program, from 1951-1978, in order to offer a more holistic understanding of why NPPs were developed. We report the complete genome sequences of four parechovirus-A3 (PeV-A3) isolates from Children's Mercy Kansas City (CMKC), United States of America (USA): PeV-A3-MO-12-CMKC/CSF/MO/USA/2012 (isolated in 2012 from cerebrospinal fluid), PeV-A3-8C-CMKC/CSF/MO/USA/2022/ (isolated in 2022 from cerebrospinal fluid), PeV-A3-9C-CMKC/CSF/MO/USA/2022 (isolated in 2022 from cerebrospinal fluid), and PeV-A3-11B-CMKC/Blood/MO/USA/2022 (isolated in 2022 from blood). Sequence analysis revealed multiple mutations throughout the genome of the PeV-A3 isolates in comparison to the prototypic PeV-A3 A308/99 reference sequence (AB084913). Several unique amino acid changes were observed in the PeV-A3 isolates from 2022 that were absent in the PeV-A3 isolate from 2012. Phylogenetic analysis comparison determined that the …

OBJECTIVE: To provide a comprehensive overview of the American Urological Association Medical Student Surveys and includes data 2022, 2023, and 2024.

METHODS: Data collected through surveys distributed prior to match day and were distributed to all medical students who submitted a rank list for urology residency. Questions consisted of various topics, including applicant demographics, application metrics, and experiences with preference signals and virtual interviews.

RESULTS: 440 (79%), 428 (84%), and 387 (77%) applicants participated in surveys for the years 2022, 2023, and 2024, respectively. Applicants continue to participate in research at a high level. Additionally, United States Medical Licensing Exam …

Educators in the United States may question music education’s higher purpose, considering high-stakes testing and an emphasis on non-musical subjects. This qualitative narrative study examines three American protestant Christian music educators’ perceptions of music education’s higher purpose and compares them to Martin Luther’s (1483-1546) writings. The researcher conducted interviews with three participants to record the story of how they developed their higher purpose for music education. The data was tabulated and coded for thematic analysis. CONTEXT: Medical education in the United States has undergone significant changes, specifically within the osteopathic community. In 2020, a merger occurred between the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), forming a single accreditation system (SAS) for graduate medical education and residency placement, with the purpose to create consistency within graduate medical education and to provide equal opportunities for applicants pursuing all specialties in medicine. This study explored the potential of using social media and artificial intelligence (AI) to tackle language and cultural barriers in order to promote mental health among Chinese and Chinese American college students. Ten bilingual (Chinese Mandarin and English) focus group sessions were conducted over Zoom with 26 Chinese and Chinese American students at a university on the west coast of the United States between October 2023 and February 2024. Baybayin is an Indigenous system of writing in the Philippines that has been preserved, but has seen rapid decline in usage throughout the centuries. This paper explores the history of Baybayin and the methods of reviving the written script that have been suggested and used to reimplement Baybayin into the daily lives of Filipinos. Myopia is the most common eye disease and a leading cause of blindness. A contemporary, large, and ethnically and geographically diverse study of ocular biometry and refractive error in children in the United States is needed to help better describe differences between myopic and nonmyopic eyes.

This is an initial cross-sectional report from the Refractive Error and Axial Length Growth Curve Study that includes ocular component data as a function of age, gender, and geographic location. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the validity of the Veterans Affairs Low Vision Visual Functioning Questionnaire (VALVVFQ-48) functional vision scores (FVS) in patients with USH2A-associated retinal degeneration. In addition, to correlate the change in the VALVVFQ-48 FVS with the change in visual function (VF) measurements.

Methods: The VALVVFQ-48 was administered verbally to participants ≥18 years of age at baseline, and after 2 and 4 years. Objectives: Using a multicenter child abuse pediatrics research network (CAPNET), the study objectives were to characterize the adherence to American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommendations for bleeding disorder testing and the frequency of bleeding disorder identification.

Methods: We performed a descriptive study of bleeding disorder evaluations among children younger than 10 years of age who presented with bruising and/or intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) concerning for abuse from February 2021-May 2022 utilizing CAPNET. Objectives: South Asian individuals (SAs) may have heightened levels of inflammatory markers, such as C reactive protein (CRP), Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α), leptin, and resistin, and decreased levels of anti-inflammatory adiponectin, contributing to higher cardiovascular disease (CVD) incidence. Social determinants of health, like discrimination, are also associated with risks for CVD in SAs. This study examined the associations between discrimination and inflammation and whether coping styles moderated the association between discrimination and self-rated health (SRH) among SAs in the United States.

Background: Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors could impair tumoural immunity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and cancer. We aimed to investigate the association between survival and TNF inhibitor treatment during the first 3 years after a diagnosis of colorectal, lung, or prostate cancer in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Aims/hypothesis: Growing evidence suggests that timing may be an important aspect of physical activity that influences cardiometabolic health. However, the current literature is inconclusive regarding the time of day that physical activity offers the greatest metabolic advantages. We investigated associations between hourly physical activity levels and diabetes mellitus and glycaemic biomarkers in a cross-sectional and nationally representative sample of US adults.

IMPORTANCE: Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) typically causes mild to severe acute respiratory illness (ARI). Testing and surveillance for EV-D68 in the US are limited, and important epidemiologic gaps remain.

OBJECTIVE: To characterize the epidemiology and clinical severity of EV-D68 among US children seeking care for ARI from 2017 to 2022, using a multisite, active, systematic surveillance network.

Introduction: The Pediatric Mechanical Ventilation Society is a collaboration of pediatric pulmonologists with a focus on pediatric chronic home invasive ventilation (PCHIV). Project Optimus, initiated by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), seeks to shift the focus of dose finding and selection from the maximum tolerated dose to the optimal dose that offers the most favorable risk-benefit balance. However, applying this paradigm shift to drug combination trials presents challenges, particularly due to limited sample sizes and a large two-dimensional dose exploration space. These challenges are amplified when trials involve multiple indications.
