Has The Radiologist Shortage Been Resolved? Recent Findings Using An Improved Survey Based Measurement, Krishan Soni

We report on a recently-developed, improved measure of shortages or surpluses of physicians - namely, the extent to which they desire less or more work if their income changes by the same percentage as their workload. Data from the American College of Radiology's (ACRs) 2007 Survey of Radiologists are used. Physicians were contacted via telephone and email by an outside contractor to assure confidentiality. Responses were weighted to be representative of all post-training professionally active radiologists in the U.S. The author analyzed workloads and the desired workload changes for (i) radiologists who wanted less work, (ii) those who wanted more …

Background: The recent increase in the number of programs offering a combined medical doctorate and masters in business administration (MD/MBA) degree means an increase in the number of medical students with MBAs applying for residency training. While these students hope that residency program directors will see the benefits of having on staff a resident with business skills many, however are now confronted with some of the medical community's negative attitudes toward business and management. Administrative Law And Culture For The U.S. Collaborative Governance State, David H. Rosenbloomn, Mei Jen Hung
Journal of Dispute Resolution
During the 1980s and 1990s, collaborative governance emerged as a potentially new global paradigm for public administration. It comes in many forms. However, its essence is governmental reliance on nongovernmental entities for the delivery of public services and constraints. Simply put, collaborative governance calls on government to focus on "steering" while relying on third parties to do the "rowing." In the United States, collaborative government is not new in kind-the federal government relied on contractors to convey the mail from the early days of the republic.
