A Dissent From The Miranda Dissents: Some Comments On The 'New' Fifth Amendment And The Old 'Voluntariness' Test, Yale Kamisar

Articles

F the several conferences and workshops (and many lunch conversations) on police interrogation and confessions in which I have participated this past summer3 are any indication, Miranda v. Arizona' has evoked much anger and spread much sorrow among judges, lawyers and professors. In the months and years ahead, such reaction is likely to be translated into microscopic analyses and relentless, probing criticism of the majority opinion. During this period of agonizing appraisal and reappraisal, I think it important that various assumptions and assertions in the dissenting opinions do not escape attention.

An Investigation Of The Marital Attitudes Of Married Couples In Four United States Air Force Status Groups, Edgar H. Brimberry

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The need for research in the marital attitudes of Air Force couples is immense. The Air Force marital counselor requires knowledge of the attitudes of the couples coming to him for aid in saving their marriages., The counselor looks for empirical data on Air Force couples as a guide in counseling procedures only to discover that such data does not exist. Much data on the marital attitudes of civilian couples can be found, but this civilian data is applied to Air Force counseling with a doubt that it fits the Air Force situation. This research is an attempt to provide …

A New Emphasis For The American Dream, Weldon J. Taylor Oct 1962

A New Emphasis For The American Dream, Weldon J. Taylor

BYU Studies

The American ideals of hard work, thrift, and perseverance are rooted in mankind's desire to meet his basic physical needs. Since in today's society these needs are not as pressing, the basic American values have begun to lose their motivating power. Today, the desire to be a creative and valued member of an organization should become a bigger motivator than the simple drive for wealth. Some whose comments have contributed to the idea of this new motivation include O. A. Ohmann, A. A. Stambaugh, Abraham T. Collier, and Stanley F. Teele.

The Effects Of Japanese Printing On The Wage Structure Of American Printers With Special Reference To That Of The Pacific Coast, David Sum Young Jan 1962

This has been especially true in the electronic and household product industries, where the quality of the merchandise has improved so greatly that it often equals or betters its American counterpart. A significant part of these improvements can be attributed to the use of American technology and American capital invested by Japan. The threat of foreign competition cannot be limited to a small area, as it can prevail in any area where the cost of labor is relatively high in relation to the finished product. Because of …
