Place Of Trial Of Civil Cases, William Wirt Blume Nov 1949

Place Of Trial Of Civil Cases, William Wirt Blume

Michigan Law Review

Places involved in a study of place of trial may be classified in various ways. The most general classification is: (1) Places within one sovereignty, (2) Places in different sovereignties. Where there is choice of place within one sovereignty, the only rational basis for making the choice is convenience-convenience of the parties, jurors, witnesses, and of the court itself. The same is true when the choice is between courts of different sovereignties, but without cooperation between the sovereignties rational choice may not be possible. The purpose of this discussion is to compare choice of place in England before 1800 with …

An Analysis Of Vocabulary Variables At The College Level, Betty Ann Allen

Master's Theses

The strength and growth of vocabulary is one or the decisive factors in successful college work. Educators find it helpful to evaluate not only the general vocabulary ability of the college student, but also the more specialized directions which the development of the student 's vocabulary may take.

The author's interest in this problem grew out of the results obtained with freshmen in the Westhampton College orientation program in September 1948. In working up the data from 119 freshmen 's scores on the Michigan Vocabulary Profile Test, results were such as to arouse interest in analysis of freshmen performance on …

Truancy : Its Sociological Implications, Helen Marie Hulcher Jul 1945

Truancy : Its Sociological Implications, Helen Marie Hulcher

Master's Theses

The term,"truancy", is interpreted in various ways. Julia Richman, District Superintendent of the Public Schools of New York in 1909, said, "The law in some states defines "truancy" as a failure to attend school, making no difference between the parents offense in keeping the child at home and the child's offense in remaining away from school without the parent's knowledge. It is this latter form which the school and the school alone must check." A. o. Neal, Superintendent of Schools, Franklin,Indiana, in the same year said, "Some Juvenile courts in Indiana have held that the truancy law means not only …
