Chinese Outbound Tourists Food Consumption In The U.S.: An Extension Of The Theory Of Planned Behavior, Kaiyang Wu

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Although Chinese outbound tourists made enormous economic contribution to the U.S. restaurant industry, they seem to have the tendency to consume Chinese cuisine solely during their international trips. This study applies structural equation modeling (SEM) to evaluate different behavioral beliefs' impact on the intentions of Chinese outbound tourist unfamiliar ethnic food consumption in the U.S. Additionally, this research combines the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and food neophobia, a food-related personality trait to better explain Chinese outbound tourists' food rejection behavior in the U.S.

Results of this study showed safety concern, acceptance of table manners, perceived communication gap and food …

Raped By The System: A Comparison Of Prison Rape In The United States And South Africa, Alexandra Ashmont Nov 2014

Raped By The System: A Comparison Of Prison Rape In The United States And South Africa, Alexandra Ashmont

Pace International Law Review

The main objective of this article is to create overall awareness and to give people a real sense of the events that go on every day inside prison walls. The article is meant to show people that the way they think about prison and prison rape specifically is severely jaded. What happens behind prison bars should certainly not stay behind prison bars. The stories within this article are unlike any prison rape stories people have heard before. They are harsh, inhumane, and deeply disturbing. The only way to incite change is to open people’s eyes to the true conditions within …

Recognizing Education Rights In India And The United States: All Roads Lead To The Courts?, Ashley Feasley Nov 2014

Recognizing Education Rights In India And The United States: All Roads Lead To The Courts?, Ashley Feasley

Pace International Law Review

The approaches of United States and India take disparate form: India has recognized the right to education and is attempting to implement the right, whereas the United States has not formally recognized the right to education itself but has acknowledged a limited right to educational opportunity, but has implemented some sort of right to education unequally by relying on the states to guarantee and implement some kind of remedy. This paper aims to evaluate the American and Indian approaches towards the right to education. Section II discusses the interrelatedness of social and economic and civil and political rights and the …

Department of Surgery Gibbon Society Historical Profiles

The early 20th century saw an explosion in surgical expertise. Specialties dedicated to delicate organs such as the heart and vulnerable populations, like children, were in their infancy. Dr. William E. Ladd, the father of pediatric surgery, founded the first dedicated department of pediatric surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital in 1910. At the time, attempts at cardiac surgery almost universally ended in death of the patient. The first successful surgical treatment of the cardiac valves would not occur for another 15 years, and the great vessels would remain out of reach for decades more. Dr. Robert E. Gross, the shy …

Restoration Of Bison (Bison Bison) To Agate Fossil Beds National Monument, A Feasibility Study, Daniel S. Licht

United States National Park Service: Publications

Executive Summary

Agate Fossil Beds National Monument is a 3,057-acre park located in western Nebraska. The unit is comprised of northern mixed-grass prairie vegetation, typical of the Northern Great Plains. Weather, fire, and grazing are generally considered to be the ecological drivers of prairie ecosystems and critical for prairie health. However, grazing has essentially been absent since the 1960s. In 2014, a Department of the Interior report explicitly listed the park as a high priority for bison restoration. This report evaluates the feasibility, management options, benefits, and challenges of restoring bison to Agate Fossil Beds National Monument.

A potential bison …

Use Of Social Media In Dental Schools: Pluses, Perils, And Pitfalls From A Legal Perspective, Joseph W. Parkinson, Sharon P. Turner Nov 2014

Use Of Social Media In Dental Schools: Pluses, Perils, And Pitfalls From A Legal Perspective, Joseph W. Parkinson, Sharon P. Turner

Oral Health Practice Faculty Publications

One of the ways dental education is changing the way it is preparing the next generation of learners is through efficient utilization of interactive social media. Social media, which facilitates interaction and sharing of new ideas, is being utilized to educate students, residents, and faculty. Unfortunately, as with most improvements in technology, there are growing pains. Faculty, student, and patient interaction on social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, can lead to inappropriate or embarrassing situations. Striking the appropriate balance between free speech rights of students and faculty and the need for colleges and universities to have efficient operations …

Educational Guide: Refugee Children's Storytelling Across Curriculum, Laurie Dishman

Theses and Dissertations

The United States is facing a continuous increase in the amount of refugees seeking refuge in the States. This continuous increase places a strain on the current education system that is underequipped to handle an influx of students with very special and unique needs. This thesis discusses these needs and one method of addressing these needs in a way beneficial to refugee students. The method involves traditional storytelling in refugee family's homes being used in the classroom. This method was put into practice into a classroom without any refugee students and is also discussed in this thesis.

Raw Milk, Raw Power: States Of (Mis)Trust, Diana Mincyte Nov 2014

Raw Milk, Raw Power: States Of (Mis)Trust, Diana Mincyte

Publications and Research

In recent years, raw milk has emerged as one of the most contentious food commodities, considered a serious health risk by public health officials and a source of healing and nourishment by raw milk proponents. The purpose of this article is to explore the ways in which consumers construct and experience trust in food that is often procured in informal markets. Because the image of an overreaching, exploitative government features prominently in popular narratives surrounding raw milk consumption, this article is explicitly concerned with the role of the state in public food debates. Drawing on two complementary empirical cases of …

Springshed Assessment Methods For Paleozoic Bedrock Springs Of Southeastern Minnesota, Jeffrey A. Green Oct 2014

Springshed Assessment Methods For Paleozoic Bedrock Springs Of Southeastern Minnesota, Jeffrey A. Green

KIP Data Sets and Technical Reports

Jeffrey A. Green 1, John D. Barry 1, and E. Calvin Alexander, Jr. 2 1Minnesota Department of Natural Resources 2Department of Earth Sciences, University of Minnesota Introduction: Springs are the natural discharge points for groundwater. They provide baseflow for streams and in the case of trout streams are critical sources of isothermal water. They are commonly found emerging from the Paleozoic sedimentary rocks of southeastern Minnesota where river valleys cut deeply through the water-bearing bedrock layers. The different lithology and hydraulic properties (hydrostratigraphy) of the rock types makes some settings more likely for springs. Our research on springs focused on …

“Dope” Dilemmas In A Budding Future Industry: An Examination Of The Current Status Of Marijuana Legalization In The United States, Steven A. Vitale

University of Miami Business Law Review

This Comment provides an in-depth analysis of the current status regarding legalization of marijuana in the United States. It begins by tracing a brief history of the legalization movement in this country. The next section addresses the federal-state law conflict issue, coupled with a thorough analysis of two recent and relatively unexamined developments—the Department of Justice’s August 29, 2013 memorandum issued as a guide to federal prosecutors concerning marijuana law enforcement, and the September 10, 2013 judicial committee hearing on the conflict between federal and state marijuana laws. So long as the federal-state law conflict exists, it seems that the …
