Confidence, Interest And Intentions Of Final-Year Nursing Students Regarding Employment In General Practice, Kaara Ray B. Calma, Susan Mcinnes, Elizabeth Halcomb, Anna Williams, Marijka Batterham Jan 2021

Confidence, Interest And Intentions Of Final-Year Nursing Students Regarding Employment In General Practice, Kaara Ray B. Calma, Susan Mcinnes, Elizabeth Halcomb, Anna Williams, Marijka Batterham

Nursing Papers and Journal Articles

Background: Rising health care burden has increased demand for general practice nurses. Exploring final-year nursing students’ perceived levels of confidence, interest and intention to work in this area can inform preparation and recruitment of new graduates into this workforce.

Aim: To explore final-year nursing students’ confidence, interest and intention to work in general practice.

Methods: Final-year nursing students from five universities situated in New South Wales, Australia were surveyed between March and June 2019. The survey comprised investigator-developed questions and validated tools adapted for use in general practice.

Findings: Of the 355 included responses, 34.1% respondents had a clinical placement …

Integrating Online Discussions Into Engineering Curriculum To Endorse Interdisciplinary Viewpoints, Promote Authentic Learning, And Improve Information Literacy, Lisa Bosman, Kurt Paterson, Margaret Phillips Jan 2021

Integrating Online Discussions Into Engineering Curriculum To Endorse Interdisciplinary Viewpoints, Promote Authentic Learning, And Improve Information Literacy, Lisa Bosman, Kurt Paterson, Margaret Phillips

Libraries Faculty and Staff Scholarship and Research

Engineering is very much an applied discipline where math and science concepts, skills, and tools can be used to design products or processes with new and/or increased value. Research suggests active learning is an effective method for teaching and learning in the engineering classroom. Moreover, students continue to express increased satisfaction when taught using this experiential pedagogical approach. One approach to active learning gaining traction in the engineering classroom is the use of online discussions. The purpose of this paper is to offer a structured approach for engineering educators to develop online discussion prompts aimed to prepare engineering students for …

An Investigation Of Student Understanding And Acceptance Of Evolution, Rachel Leigh Salter Harding Jan 2021

An Investigation Of Student Understanding And Acceptance Of Evolution, Rachel Leigh Salter Harding

Biological Sciences

Evolution is central to biology education and yet, it is often one of the most misunderstood and controversial topics that biology educators must teach. Research spanning the last four decades has shown that students continue to struggle, even with direct instruction, to understand the process of evolution by natural selection. In my first chapter, I found that students enrolled in non-majors geology course did not increase in their understanding of evolution, even after instruction. This followed similar findings from research occurring over 30 years in the past. Discipline-based education researchers have theorized that students’ persistent difficulties understanding evolution may stem …

Influence Of Music Education On Early Childhood Development, Valerie Kilburn Dec 2020

Influence Of Music Education On Early Childhood Development, Valerie Kilburn

2020 Fall Honors Capstone Projects - Archive

Music is considered an integral part of early childhood education. Early childhood music education can contribute to a child’s vocal development, rhythm skills, and motor skills development. Vocal development is distinguishing between the different voices. Rhythm skills consist of developing an internalized beat. Motor skills are developing fine and gross motor abilities. These various aspects of childhood development in their relation to music education were outlined and elaborated on in this paper. Although early childhood is defined as birth to age nine, this research paper examined children from birth to age four. Practical application with young children was discussed at …

Emergency Alerts And The Application Of Location Sharing, Martha Taffa Dec 2020

Emergency Alerts And The Application Of Location Sharing, Martha Taffa

2020 Fall Honors Capstone Projects - Archive

With the advancement in technology, a lot of work has been done for the welfare and betterment of people globally. Nevertheless, there are not as many systems implemented to inform deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) people when an emergency alert is going off, or when a similar situation is taking place. This project is about the implementation of a mobile app that gives different pop-up alerts when detecting emergency sounds. The paper mainly focuses on the implementation of the audio classifier and the feature that lets a user share their location with family and friends. The Google Maps application …

Mr-Compatibility Of An Isometric/ Dynamic Plantarflexion Ergometer, Ramtin Behbahan Dec 2020

Mr-Compatibility Of An Isometric/ Dynamic Plantarflexion Ergometer, Ramtin Behbahan

2020 Fall Honors Capstone Projects - Archive

Plantarflexion Ergometry (PE), in conjunction with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), has shown to be a useful technique in the research and study of Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) in patients' extremities. A number of studies have conducted PE experiments with favorable results. However, the devices reviewed lack the MRI compatibility option. They are often not designed to measure angular displacement, which accounts as the displacement variable within the calculated torque and work function. In this research, a fully MRI compatible PE was constructed using commercially available parts. To reduce interference and imaging noise during MRI PE, RF (Radio Frequency), magnetic shielding …
