An Examination Of The Utilization Of Bloom's Taxonomy In School-Based Biology Assessment Tasks In Selected Secondary Schools Meru District, Tanzania, Agatha Wilson Yintore

Master of Education

The world’s current most significant demand is for training many scientists and different science professionals. As a result, the preparation has always started at deficient learning levels, such as primary and secondary schools. In Tanzania, other science subjects are taught in secondary schools; among them, biology is included, and it is the only mandatory science subject in secondary school. Different approaches to teaching have been employed to ensure that the learners grasp the knowledge and skills of the subject. However, the examination results over the years have not been of high and promising performance, and different reasons are suspected to …

Between Tradition And Transformation: A Feminist Investigation Of The Role Of Pastoral Women Within Tanzania's Integrated Environment And Development Landscape, Kelli Erin Rogers

Graduate Student Theses, Dissertations, & Professional Papers

Pastoral women hold pivotal social and environmental roles within their communities. Equally and actively engaging pastoral women in processes to conserve and sustainably use rangeland resources has therefore become an important focus for integrated environment and development intervention. In northern Tanzania, pastoral women find themselves at the center of gender equality efforts, which attempt to translate gender and environment theory into conservation action that elevates pastoral women’s historically unheard voices. Along the way, particular global narratives have positioned pastoral women alternately as passive beneficiaries or as powerful allies in biodiversity conservation and natural resource management. Although the importance of integrating …

Effects Of Interest Rate Ceiling On Sustainability Of Microfinance Institutions: Lessons From Tanzania, Goodluck Charles Dec 2022

Effects Of Interest Rate Ceiling On Sustainability Of Microfinance Institutions: Lessons From Tanzania, Goodluck Charles

Business Management Review

This study explores the effects of an interest rate ceiling on the sustainability of Microfinance Institutions (MFIs). Based on qualitative research which entailed collection of online data from 53 respondents and in-depth face-to-face interviews with 10 MFI practitioners in Tanzania, it is evident that an interest rate ceiling interferes with competitive market forces. Given that MFIs vary in size, operational capacity, customer segment and business model, applying a single blanket interest rate leads to capital and credit diversion, hidden non-interest charges, the emergence of informal lenders and a black market, the withholding of credit from risky markets and the closure …

Yet, it is unclear to what extent such increase in audit committees contribute to public sector entities ' internal control effectiveness, especially in developing economies. The Influence Of Christianity In Swahili Literature: The Case Of Bongo Flavor Poetry Prophesies, Method Samwel Dec 2022

The Influence Of Christianity In Swahili Literature: The Case Of Bongo Flavor Poetry Prophesies, Method Samwel

Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences

The influence of religion in Swahili literature has been a centre of Swahili literary scholarship discussions from the 1960s to 1980s. During the time, there were two schools of thought. The first argued that Swahili literature originates from God and that He is the first artist who transmits creative skills to Swahili artists. The second school of thought viewed Swahili literature as a product of socio-economic human activities, and that God has no place in it. By the late 1980s, the discussion on the place of God in Swahili literature appeared to be concluded by a good number of scholars …

Weathering The Storm: Community Socio-Economic And Physical Vulnerability Assessment Of Informal Settlements To Disasters In Arusha City, Tanzania, Herbert Hambati

Urban population growth has demonstrated a synergetic relationship with the growth of informal settlements and vulnerability to disasters in urban areas. This study employed Community Participatory Vulnerability Assessment (CPVA) to analyse vulnerability in informal settlements in Arusha City, Tanzania. The results show that a plethora of factors, including socio-economic and physical realities interact in complex non-linear ways to shape vulnerability to disasters in informal settlements in the city. The study shows that coping strategies of some individuals in informal settlements reinforce their risks to disasters. This is particularly demonstrated by the stones that are positioned on weak roof structures for …

Mapping The Tourism Value Chain For Fair-Trade And Tourism Handicraft Clusters In Tanzania, Peter M. Ezra May 2022

Mapping The Tourism Value Chain For Fair-Trade And Tourism Handicraft Clusters In Tanzania, Peter M. Ezra

All Dissertations

The role of tourism industry as an agent to foster community development, and as a means for poverty reduction in lesser economically developed countries (LEDCs), has been widely addressed by the literature. However, critics have pointed out that tourism has failed to promote local development and improve the livelihoods of local communities in LEDCs due to unequal trading and neoliberal economic policies resulting to economic leakage. The introduction of fair-trade movements is a response to a call to redress these unequal trading and neoliberal economic policies between the Global North and Global South. Fair-trade is considered one of the ethical …

The Dangers Of Being Old In Rural Tanzania: A Call For Interventions For Strengthening Palliative Care In Low-Income Communities, Kahabi Isangula Apr 2022

The Dangers Of Being Old In Rural Tanzania: A Call For Interventions For Strengthening Palliative Care In Low-Income Communities, Kahabi Isangula

School of Nursing & Midwifery, East Africa

Tanzania is currently implementing political reforms that, with time, are expected to improve quality of life among individuals regardless of their age. This improvement in quality of life, consequently prolonged life expectancy implies that the aging population will significantly increase in a few years to come. Research projects that the number of people aged 60 years and above will increase from the current 4- percent to 10-percent of the total population by 2050 (United Republic of Tanzania, 2003; Kivelia and Kirway, 2011; Morrissette andWane, 2012). The projected increase suggests that the older population will be at a disadvantage because majority …
