Students’ Views Of E-Learning: The Impact Of Technologies On Learning In Higher Education In Ireland, Eileen O'Donnell, Mary Sharp
Books/Book Chapters
Students are the end users of the Information Systems that educators use to enhance students’ learning experiences. The use of technologies in education has altered the ways in which lecturers and students can interact and has expanded the volume of information that students can access. This study was undertaken to obtain students perspectives on the uses of technologies in higher education to assist educators in improving the pedagogical design of e-learning platforms, known as learning management systems. This chapter provides students’ perspectives on the academic use of technologies in two higher education institutions in Ireland. Analysis of the responses received …
Theatre Communications Class: Impact On Students With And Without Autism, Teresa Kay Bozikis
Theatre Communications Class: Impact On Students With And Without Autism, Teresa Kay Bozikis
Honors Capstones
This study evaluated an inclusive Theatre Communications Class implemented at a suburban high school. The class is designed to target social and communication skills in students with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) using role playing theatre activities with students without ASD that are prepared and performed for the class. Caregivers of 2 students with ASD completed the Autism Social Skills Profile prior to enrollment. Two students without ASD completed the Multidimensional Attitudes Scale to assess their attitudes towards individuals with autism prior to enrollment. In December of 2011, after a semester in the program, they completed the measures again. Analyses revealed …

Big iDeas 2012 Proposals
The SMU-West Dallas Youth Cultural Initiative began through our enrollment in Bernado Diaz’s Artist Residency directed studies course, Art as Social Practice. We are now hoping to continue our workshops and events with the West Dallas community at the Bataan and McMilan centers beyond the scope of this directed studies course, on the basis of the networks and relationships we have already initiated in the area. We intend to:
• Develop and implement culturally-driven curriculum for students participating in the afterschool programs of the West Dallas Community Centers.
• Pilot a program at SMU that allows students to engage in …

In 1975-1976, a group of science students of the Novosibirsk University (Russia, Siberia) created a small theatre that managed to avoid the official censorship for the entire season. In this memoir, several former actors, now scattered across the world, reconstruct the detailed history of their “Phenomenon” theatre 35 years later. The central event was the (first) staging (December 1975) of Andrey Voznesensky’s long poem “Avos'!”, long before the famous rock opera appeared.

Engaging And Preparing Students For Future Roles: Community-Based Learning In Dit, Catherine Bates
Staff Articles and Research Papers
This paper will introduce the principles of Community-Based Learning (CBL), showing how this pedagogy allows students to use a range of learning methods on real-life projects, preparing them for a changing professional environment and social context, and enhancing their college experience. Lecturers and underserved community partners collaboratively design projects to meet the learning needs of students and to work towards community goals. Through these curriculum-based projects, students develop greater awareness of themselves as learners, and of the role of their discipline in society, as well as building a range of transferable professional skills. This paper will give 2 clear case …
