A Cost Benefit Study Of Clinical Education In An Entry-Level Master’S Degree Program In Physical Therapy., Risa A. Granick

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

The costs associated with clinical education in physical therapy and other health professions have been debated by educational and hospital administrators in recent years. The assumption has been that these programs incur a cost to the clinical facility. To date, the physical therapy literature has been limited in cost-benefit studies with no definitive conclusions. This study examined the costs of Clinical education in a selective entry-level master's degree program in physical therapy to determine what monetary costs and benefits accrue to clinical affiliation sites and what factors are related to the monetary costs or benefits of clinical education.

Can Drama Improve Student Performance In School?, William R. Peach Aug 1989

Can Drama Improve Student Performance In School?, William R. Peach

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

The problem of the existence of a number of students exhibiting low self-esteem and unacceptable behavior in fourth and fifth grade was addressed by involving a representative sample of the students population in the production of a major musical show. The Piers-Harris Children’s Self-Concept Test (Ellen V. Piers and Dale B. Harris, 1969), an analysis of students’ effort and behavior grades before and after the production, and an analysis of numbers of instances of administrative/ guidance referrals was used to evaluate whether or not involvement in drama would produce improvement in student self-esteem. All students who signed up to audition …

Moving Into Management From The Outside, Lynn Wishart Jul 1989

Moving Into Management From The Outside, Lynn Wishart

Library Staff Articles

When accepting a promotion from outside the organization, the new manager must understand what is being given up and left behind, and must also realize clearly what expectations the new library holds. In the new position, the outside manager must articulate goals and find common ground with supervisors and subordinates. The take-charge period should be used for judicious decision making and intense learning.

Differential Perceptions In Auditing Terms, Pearl Tan, Hian Chye Koh, Aik Meng Low Jul 1989

Differential Perceptions In Auditing Terms, Pearl Tan, Hian Chye Koh, Aik Meng Low

Research Collection School Of Accountancy

This paper investigates the differences in the relative perceptions of auditing terms among groups of accountants, bankers and students. Perceptual models were constructed using multi-dimensional scaling and cluster analysis techniques. The models derived therefrom indicate that there are no major inter-group differences in the relative perceptions of auditing terms. This study does not therefore support the hypothesis that the “expectation gap” between users and preparers of the audit report are caused by semantical problems.

The Hand That Pushes The Rock, Paula Rothenberg Jun 1989

The Hand That Pushes The Rock, Paula Rothenberg

Trotter Review

Only a very few schools in this country actually require all students to spend an entire semester thinking about issues of race and gender. Many more have found a way to incorporate these issues in required courses in “social problems” where racism and sexism get their two weeks along with environmental pollution and other current issues. I think this approach is dead wrong. Racism and sexism are not “problems” or “topics.” They are ways of defining reality and living our lives that most of us have learned along with learning how to tie our shoes and how to drink from …

Explanatory Style And Goal Setting, Michele A. Rozhon Jan 1989

Explanatory Style And Goal Setting, Michele A. Rozhon

Honors Capstones

I conducted a longitudinal study to investigate whether the diathesis stress model of learned helplessness could account for differences in goal setting and performance. One week before a midterm exam, 136 college students completed questionnaires measuring explanatory style, threat appraisals, situational constraints, academic ability, level of depression, goal priorities, and academic goals. One week after the midterm exam, course grade goals were measured again and midterm exam scores were obtained. Results suggested modest support for the diathesis-stress model of learned helplessness: 1) Pessimists set lower goals with respect to the exam, but not with respect to course grade, 2) situational …

Part I of this Note describes the case law that delineated the factors examined in the study. Those factors are the financial support provided by the supporting spouse, the extent of personal sacrifice made by the supporting spouse, the length of the marriage and corresponding accumulated assets of the marriage at the time of the divorce, and the relative earning capacities of the two parties after the divorce. Part II discusses the design of the study, and specifically how we manipulated these factors in hypothetical vignettes to measure reactions to the factors. Part III presents the results and our conclusions …

In Praise Of Student-Edited Law Reviews: A Reply To Professor Dekanal, John Paul Jones

Prof. Jones responds to a previous writer's arguments that the student-edited law review be replaced by journals edited by law faculty members. He argues that there are not enough willing faculty editors and staff members to sustain the present number and production rate of law journals.
