This Major Applied Research Project proposed three specific ways to improve the Critical Thinking Skills of students at the Carrie Downie Elementary School as measured by standardized achievement test results, increased placement of students in the Colonial School District's program for the gifted, and the inclusion of critical thinking skills in teacher's daily lessons. This report describes a program to improve the achievement of the kindergarten students at the primary school in Charles City County. The instructional program was structured and academic in nature. Developmental hands-on instructional procedures needed for kindergarten-age children was not used. School administrators encouraged the situation in order to have the children reading by the time the entered first grade. All of the kindergarten teachers were not endorsed in kindergarten or early childhood education, and no Inservice teacher-training specific to the instructional needs of that grade had been provided by the school division. The results were students scoring below the …

From 1970 to 1980, part-time faculty members increased faster than full-time faculty and recent studies estimate that at least one in every three faculty members is employed part-time. While the use of adjunct faculty has helped many colleges adjust to uncertain and fluctuating funding patterns, the instructional efficacy of the use of adjunct faculty may be questioned.
In Florida, this nationwide trend is of particular importance since students must take and pass a test of college-level computation and communication skills …

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
Practical Bible Training School (PBTS! is a small, private college in need of improved academic advising services. The purpose of this project was to identify strategies in academic advising that would be appropriate for implementation in the small, private college setting, to develop an academic advising system that would address problems experienced at PBTS, and to implement and evaluate such a system through a trial model. A successful program would necessitate limited expansion of resources or personnel, applicability on an institution-wide basis, and demonstrated improvement in adviser and student satisfaction.
A trial model was developed and implemented during the 1989-90 …
