Filipinx/A/O-American College Students And Mental Health, Gabi Sicat Jul 2021

Filipinx/A/O-American College Students And Mental Health, Gabi Sicat

Sociology - Independent Research

Filipinx/a/o-Americans are the second largest Asian American population yet are often underrepresented in research studies and media, while predominantly East Asians remain the center focus. Issues and experiences of subpopulations within minority groups are often overshadowed by the dominant group and essentially erased. Therefore, disaggregating data persists as an important way to understand the differences between subgroups and to ultimately create effective strategies to remediate these inequities. This current study looks to further examine the research question: What experiences shape Filipinx/a/o-American college students’ mental health? Specifically how does family, religion, immigration, racial stereotypes (e.g., model minority myth), and acculturation at …

A Descriptive Study About Instructor And Student Attitudes Towards The Use Of Educational Technology In Nursing Instruction, David Lawrence Stanghellini

Theses and Dissertations

In recent years, concern has been expressed by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) and the National League for Nursing (NLN) that nursing school graduates lack critical thinking skills needed to provide increasingly complex care to today’s hospitalized patient. Barriers to technology integration include limited knowledge in the use of technology, perceived low self-efficacy, concerns about training, and long-term support.

This study examined factors that affect instructor and student …

Does The Input Equal The Outcome For Students With Emotional And Behavioral Disabilities?, Brigid Eileen Bright Jun 2021

Does The Input Equal The Outcome For Students With Emotional And Behavioral Disabilities?, Brigid Eileen Bright

Dissertations

Students with emotional and behavioral disabilities experience poor post-secondary outcomes despite the existence of research-based best practices to improve outcomes (Freeman et al., 2019; Mitchel et al., 2019). Research signifies this population as underserved and under-identified (Barnett, 2012). Additionally, funding best practices indicate student outcomes should be considered when allocating resources (Chartrand, 2019). The purpose of this mixed methods study was to consider both inputs and outcomes for graduates with emotional and behavioral disabilities (EBD) and graduates with significant cognitive impairments (SCI) in a rural northwest Arkansas district and the fiscal allocation for both populations. A comparison of quantitative post-secondary …

Users’ Satisfaction On Sc/St Book Bank Scheme Through Ordinal Logistic Regression Analysis, Kutty Kumar Dr, Kutty Kumar Dr

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Ordinal Logistic Regression (OLR) is used to predict an ordinal structured variable given one or more independent variables. In this study, OLR used to decide the level of satisfaction on SC/ST book bank scheme (ordinal independent variable), measured on a five-point Likert type scale from “completely dissatisfied-1 through completely satisfied-5, depending on the discernment of ‘life science’ and ‘engineering students belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) or Tribe (ST)’. Model appropriateness depends on determining which explanatory variables considered for the model and selecting the link function (complementary log-log link function used in this study). Likewise, the model fitting perceptions, the accuracy …

Center for the Positive Development of Urban Children

Each cohort began with professional development to provide instruction around cultural competency and how to incorporate cultural pedagogy into the classroom. During the professional development institute, participants had to fill out pre- and post-assessments that measured knowledge of the core program concepts. To measure comprehension of these concepts we utilized a rubric allowing responses to fit into four categories: basic, competent, proficient, and advanced.

Analyzation of the pre-and-post assessments concluded that participants improved their comprehension of the Institute’s core concepts over the course of the Learning Institute (21 hours of professional development). According to the pretests, participants from all three …

Developing An Inquiry-Based Laboratory Project For Chem 142l Course At Bsu, Manuel Pina

Honors Program Theses and Projects

In addition to content knowledge, critical and independent thinking, scientific reasoning, and problem-solving skills are essential in preparing next generation of successful workforce. Since one of the biggest advantages of STEM disciplines is a “must-have” hands-on laboratory experience, it is intuitive to exploit this learning space to reinforce afore-mentioned skills. In this context, project-based (PBL) or inquiry-based (IBL) laboratory experiences are rapidly becoming mainstream pedagogical choice for many STEM instructors across United States.[1-4] PBL, and IBL are learning experiences that offer students an opportunity to experience realistic scientific process of discovery through carefully designed inquiry-driven and/or open-ended investigative laboratory …
