A Peer-Managed Self-Control Program For Reduction Of Alcohol Consumption In High School Students, Richard Allan Carpenter
A Peer-Managed Self-Control Program For Reduction Of Alcohol Consumption In High School Students, Richard Allan Carpenter
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Three treatments designed to reduce the consumption of alcohol by native American high school students were assessed and compared. Self-referred and staff-referred clients were randomly assigned to three treatment groups: (1) alcohol education and a peer-assisted self-control procedure, (2) a peer-assisted self-control procedure, and (3) a self-monitoring only procedure. All three treatments were conducted by trained peer counselors for 14 weeks. The alcohol education and peer-assisted self-control and the peer-assisted self-control demonstrated reductions in peak blood alcohol concentration, frequency of drinking incidents, and alcohol consumption. The self-monitoring only group demonstrated changes only in frequency of drinking incidents. No significant differences …

Problem
One of the important problems for the handicapped child is whether he can develop an adequate self-concept. This is a significant problem for the hearing-impaired child in a regular school setting. If the development of self-concept is contingent upon the ability to express needs, wants, and desires, what is the self-concept of a child who cannot describe his feelings? The present study attempts to measure the self-concepts of the hearing-impaired students and to compare them to the self-concepts of the hearing students.
Method
The Piers-Harris Children's Self-Concept Scale was used to evaluate the self-concepts of 926 students of the …

Canadian Law Schools: In Search Of Excellence, Leon E. Trakman
Canadian Law Schools: In Search Of Excellence, Leon E. Trakman
Dalhousie Law Journal
What makes a law school sound? credible? even excellent? Surely many things: leadership potential, good faculty and good students, a solid public image and communication. Greatness comes from knowing our own strengths and weaknesses, our institutional purposes. In short, achievement flows from how we evaluate ourself and how others evaluate us.' A law school must seek to satisfy many goals. Ideally, every legal institution should strive to excel as a facility of learning, as a bastion of intellectual fervor, as an instrument satisfying community needs. Yet each of these goals are themselves variable in kind. Teaching expertise in one legal …

Evaluation Of Courses/Instructors: Book Cost Information And Commitment, Gerald L. Stremel
Evaluation Of Courses/Instructors: Book Cost Information And Commitment, Gerald L. Stremel
Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice
The present study was designed to investigate the relationship between level of commitment to a college course, and information pertaining to the cost of book(s) for the course, and how such variables would interact to affect the subsequent evaluation of the course/instructor. It was expected that a state of cognitive dissonance would be present between the high commitment-higher than average cost group and the low commitment-higher than average cost group, which would manifest itself by less favorable evaluations of the course/instructor by the low commitment-higher than average group, than in the other five experimental groups. Results partially supported the prediction. …
