Faith-Based Instructional Interventions: The Relationship Of The Short-Term Mission Trip With The Spiritual-Formation Disciplines Of Mainline Protestant Christian Traditions, Jeff D. Mccord
Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
This study examined the relationship between the short-term mission trip experience and participation in spiritual-formation disciplines for individuals identifying with mainline protestant Christian traditions. The study was causal comparative and primarily concerned with comparing the independent variable of a short-term mission trip experience with several dependent variables. These variables included participation in prayer, service, worship, study, giving, and witness related disciplines as well as the integration of faith into everyday life. The primary research question asked whether there was a significant relationship between a short-term mission trip experience and self-reported participation in Christian spiritual-formation disciplines. Participants included individuals ranging in …
Ignatian Contemplation In The Classroom: Fostering Imagination In Graduate Scripture Study, Francis D. Alvarez
Ignatian Contemplation In The Classroom: Fostering Imagination In Graduate Scripture Study, Francis D. Alvarez
Landas
This article addresses the spiritual dryness often experienced in graduate Scripture study by proposing the integration of Ignatian contemplation into the classroom. Rooted in St. Ignatius's Spiritual Exercises, this approach uses the imagination as a rule-governed faculty to foster personal encounters with God. By engaging bodily senses and emotions through the "composition of place," students move beyond mere intellectual analysis to a transformative experience. This method bridges the gap between informative and formational reading, offering a communal practice that makes the Bible structurally alive and relevant to today's world.

Exploring The Spiritually Formative Experiences Of Female Seminary Spouses: A Phenomenological Inquiry, Benjamin Forrest
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this paper is to present the findings of a qualitative research study exploring the spiritually formative experiences of nonstudent, female, seminary spouses whose student spouses are beyond the halfway point in their pursuit of an M.Div. at a large evangelical seminary in the eastern United States. Fifteen participants (twelve online nonstudent spouses and three residential nonstudent spouses) were purposefully sampled. The data, which was collected through questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and discussion forums, was analyzed using transcendental phenomenological analysis. Through this analysis it became apparent that seminary spouses did in fact experience spiritual formation through their husband's education. …

Spiritual Direction And Evangelicals : Exploring Its Growth, Margie Van Duzer
Doctor of Ministry
During the last thirty years interest in the ministry of spiritual direction has grown rapidly within evangelical circles. This paper explores the conditions that have nurtured this change. Specifically, this dissertation defines and describes spiritual direction, sets forth its biblical and historical context, and then explores a variety of factors that help explain its increase in popularity among evangelicals. In the final chapter, the dissertation turns to a consideration of how best to prepare the growing number of evangelical spiritual directors and proposes an outline of a curriculum for a spiritual direction equipping program.

The Integration Of Church And Home: A Strategic Partnership For Spiritual Formation, Michael B. Haynes
The Integration Of Church And Home: A Strategic Partnership For Spiritual Formation, Michael B. Haynes
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The American family is deteriorating according to current research. This deterioration stems from the church’s inability to develop Christians who practice life according to the principles of the Bible. In a culture characterized by an atomic worldview, the church and family must work together to develop Christians who live according to the relational worldview of Scripture. This project describes how one church developed and implemented a strategy partnering the church and family for the spiritual formation of the next generation. This project is designed as a model for churches seeking to impact the culture one home at a time.
