Dual language education programs are gaining momentum throughout the United States as exemplary means of educating both language minority and language majority students. There is considerable evidence that learning through the native language has many advantages for language minority students. Specifically, it allows them to gain important content knowledge in their native language that will make the English they encounter more comprehensible as they enhance their overall cognitive and social development. Additionally, dual language education facilitates the development of both basic and advanced literacy in two languages for language majority students; Research results demonstrate that dual language education programs can …

El sexo sin protección entre los jóvenes en México con frecuencia ocasiona embarazos no planeados y nacimientos no deseados, y los expone a contraer infecciones de transmisión sexual (ITS), entre ellas el VIH/SIDA. De 1999 a 2002, FRONTERAS trabajó con la organización no gubernamental Mexfam para estudiar la viabilidad, eficacia y costo de realizar intervenciones en los ámbitos comunitario, clínico y escolar para mejorar la salud reproductiva (SR) de los jóvenes de 10 a 19 años de edad. En septiembre de 2000, el Population Council puso en marcha un proyecto que duró 9 meses, con el fin de probar la efectividad de “Equipos de Campeones” que promueven el uso de resultados de investigación operativa para formular políticas y programas de salud reproductiva en Filipinas. Los miembros del equipo, elegidos entre instituciones gubernamentales, no gubernamentales, académicas y de medios, recibieron tres días de orientación para convertirse en promotores de políticas.
