A Scriptural Stance Toward Undocumented Hispanics And Selected Methodologies For Reaching Them With The Gospel, Fred Pankow
A Scriptural Stance Toward Undocumented Hispanics And Selected Methodologies For Reaching Them With The Gospel, Fred Pankow
Doctor of Theology Dissertation
It is the contention of this dissertation that all the approaches presented above, which shall be discussed in detail, are inadequate. They do not incorporate sufficiently the beliefs, attitudes, motivations, and mindset brought from Spain and imposed on or merged with those of native Americans. In fact, this chapter contends that two or three million Hispanics illegally enter the United States from Latin America each year, in part at least, 1) because the seven-century-long Moorish occupation of Spain changed the Spanish character and society; and2) because the Reformation was crushed in sixteenth-century Spain.
Some may call this contention quite preposterous, …

A Creation Of Pedagogical Children's Literature That Addresses Sexual Abuse And Child Abuse In A Bilingual Format, Karen J. Hernandez
All Graduate Projects
The purpose was to create a series of stories for children that deal with sexual and child abuse. The stories were written in Spanish and English. Special attention was given to make them relative to the Hispanic culture. Background research supported the existence of sexual and child abuse. Symptoms were listed and the rights and responsibilities of teachers to report suspected cases were identified. The use of creative fiction and bibliotherapy was suggested for prevention programs in an elementary curriculum.

Sociolinguistic Perspectives On Decisions Of Correctness In New Mexico Spanish, Leslie Merryl Kravitz
Sociolinguistic Perspectives On Decisions Of Correctness In New Mexico Spanish, Leslie Merryl Kravitz
Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies ETDs
The purpose of the present investigation was to examine the attitudes of Spanish speakers of an Albuquerque community toward local and standard Mexican Spanish. The preferences expressed and the linguistic elements involved in such decisions were explored. Sociolinguistic factors related to individual and group choices were also considered.
In order to probe the relationship between social and linguistic facts, a single community was investigated. Martineztown, a small, insular Albuquerque Spanish-speaking community was first observed with regard to availability of formal models of Spanish. Sociolinguistic and ethnographic interviews were then conducted. Additional interviews were completed in other New Mexico communities to …

The Spanish University: An Analysis Of The Relationship Between Institutional And Political Change, Julia A. Nichols
Honors Papers
The purpose of this paper is to reveal the nature of institutional adaptation of the University within the context of the political upheavals in twentieth-century Spain. I will focus on the changing structure of the University under the Republican era, the Franco years, and the present democracy. Elements within this changing educational structure suggest an ideal typology, a hypothetical university which manages to rise above its role as a mere function of the social milieu. By contrast, the reality of the University as an institution controlled by political regimes is evident throughout the paper. The contention herein is that among …

Administración Comunitaria Del Reciclamiento De Desechos: El Sirdo, Marianne Schmink
Administración Comunitaria Del Reciclamiento De Desechos: El Sirdo, Marianne Schmink
Poverty, Gender, and Youth

Creación De Empleos Distintos De Las Artesanías Para Las Mujeres De Bangladesh, Marty Chen
Poverty, Gender, and Youth

Mujeres Y Artesanías: Mito Y Realidad, Jasleen Dhamija
Poverty, Gender, and Youth

Hanover Street: Un Experimento De Capacitacion Femenina En Soladadura Y Carpinteria, Peggy Antrobus, Barbara Rogers
Poverty, Gender, and Youth
Two Features Of Working-Class Phonology In Valladolid, Lynn Williams
Two Features Of Working-Class Phonology In Valladolid, Lynn Williams
Faculty Publications
Two factors prompted the research which led to the writing of this article: first, the apparent general consensus amongst linguists both inside and outside Spain that the phonology of Old Castilian is monolithic in terms of geographic and sodal space, and that it has more or less stagnated in the mould of traditional grammars, and, secondly, the insistence of many linguists on seeing some aspects of contemporary Spanish phonology as characteristic of certain non-standard varieties of Spanish, wilhout investigating whether the same features might not also be found in Old Castile.

The Identification Of Spanish-Speaking Children With Speech And Language Handicaps: An Analysis Of Current Assessment Practices In Speech And Language Therapy Programs With Proposed Assessment Guidelines, Lawrence Joel Mattes Edd
Dissertations
Problem The objectives of this study were (1) to examine the procedures used by speech-language pathologists in identifying Spanish-speaking students with speech and language handicaps, (2) to determine the extent to which practicing speech-language pathologists are qualified to conduct these evaluations, and (3) to develop a comprehensive set of assessment guidelines. Procedure A 27-item survey instrument constructed by the researcher was distributed to 408 individuals in Los Angeles County, selected from the 1980 membership directory of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the 1981 directory supplement. A total of 285 (69.85%) of the surveys were returned, but 44 of these surveys …

Stylistic Considerations Of Calderón’S Opera Librettos, Matthew D. Stroud
Modern Languages and Literatures Faculty Research
The two plays of Calderón that were set to music in their entirety have a number of common characteristics beyond those associated with the mythological plays as a whole. Both of the plays were performed in 1660, La púrpura de la rosa on January 17 to celebrate the marriage of the Infanta María Teresa to Louis XIV of France, and Celos aun del aire matan on December 5 to celebrate the third birthday of the Infante Felipe Próspero. Presented in the Palacio del Buen Retiro, set to music by Juan Hidalgo, staged with the appropriate elaborate machinery, and performed by …
