It was the start of summer 2014 when the University of Notre Dame (ND)’s Kresge Law Library (KLL) started to make its entry into social media with a Twitter account@NDLawLibrary. The accountgrew a following to focus on library related topics. In Fall 2014, the KLL conducted a social media survey focusing on graduate students.Participants in the survey included 355 graduate students that completed the survey out of the 629 that received it. All The Science That Is Fit To Blog: An Analysis Of Science Blogging Practices, Paige Brown Jarreau

This dissertation examines science blogging practices, including motivations, routines and content decision rules, across a wide range of science bloggers. Previous research has largely failed to investigate science blogging practices from science bloggers’ perspective or to establish a sociological framework for understanding how science bloggers decide what to blog about. I address this gap in previous research by conducting qualitative in-depth interviews with 50 science bloggers and an extensive survey of blogging motivations, approaches, content decisions rules, values and editorial constraints for over 600 active science bloggers. Facebook as a social media technology is prominent in a variety of scenarios, including interpersonal relationship management. There have been numerous studies on how social dynamics are informed by social media, especially in regards to young adults. For five years, corporate communication undergraduates have maintained a wiki as a final course and community service project. Using Web 2.0 platforms to crowdsource and curate content, they learn to employ online communications for work purposes. When the course was launched in 2007, the dominant social media narrative invited educators to embrace a technological optimism with sub-themes of open communication, sharing, and co-creation. By 2011, student feedback had compelled the instructor to consider the limits of technological optimism and revise the course. Visual And Textual Appeals In Banner Advertising: A Content Analysis, Louis Perez

This study investigated textual and visual variables of banner advertisements. A number of research questions were addressed by content analyzing banner advertisements from social media and social networking Websites, including YouTube and Facebook. Implications of linking types of banner advertisements to types of social media sites, including differences between visual and textual content of banner advertisements, are addressed. Results indicate that there were notable differences between banner advertisements found on these sites. Ads are more likely to contain greater visual aspects such as animation on social media sites than they are on social networking sites. Further studies should examine how …
