Using Music To Teach The Sounds Of Poetry: Some User-Friendly Advice For The Non-Musician, Jayme Stayer
Using Music To Teach The Sounds Of Poetry: Some User-Friendly Advice For The Non-Musician, Jayme Stayer
English: Faculty Publications and Other Works
I will offer some suggestions here that address both the gap in our teaching of poetic sounds and the fears and prejudices of students. While I do foist, unapologetically, the entire apparatus of poetic terminology on my students, my use of music to reinforce such concepts is supplemental and non-technical. In fact, much of my use of music in the Introduction to Literature classroom has less to do with actually listening to CDs, and more to do with talking about what my students already know about music, and then applying that knowledge to poetry.

An Interpretive Exploration Of The Meaning Of Being With Women During Birth For Midwives, Lauren P. Hunter Phd
An Interpretive Exploration Of The Meaning Of Being With Women During Birth For Midwives, Lauren P. Hunter Phd
Dissertations
This study explored the meaning of the phenomenon of the midwife's experience of being present with a woman during childbirth. The value and importance of being with a woman during childbirth, specific and unique to midwifery care, is reflected in midwifery philosophies and models of care. This study looked through the lens of midwives who have written poetry about births they have attended to learn more about the experience of being with a woman. Hermeneutical phenomenology was selected for the philosophical methodology and method because it looked at both the phenomenon and the use of language to describe the phenomenon. …

Richard Denner, poet, founder and sole operator of his own press, D-press, is a maker of beautiful little books. One calls them “little” without condescension because they are chapbooks, of various dimensions, each worthy of contemplation as an object in itself, and also as an example of what can be done by way of self-publication if one is ingenious enough. Denner has made a place for himself as an artist while remaining entirely outside the mainstream—a possibility for which we have few examples. Designed on a computer screen with the aid of a color copier, his dazzling books require no …
