From Fists To Words : A Revolutionized Awareness Based On Peace, Kristen Ana Lafollette Jan 2006

From Fists To Words : A Revolutionized Awareness Based On Peace, Kristen Ana Lafollette

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

From Fists to Words: A Revolutionized Awareness Based on Peace links my experience as student involved in the Creative Writing and Social Action and Global Studies programs. This project intends to demonstrate my personal process of transformation, through the acceptance of peace, to serve as an inspiration for those who are willing to undergo a similar internal revolution. My Capstone employs six poems, one dramatic monologue, a narrative personal essay and an interdisciplinary reflection essay to serve as proof that change is possible through a commitment to the power of peace, nonviolence, love and altruism. Included in the creative portfolio …

The Wife of Bath is one of Geoffrey Chaucer’s most famous characters; she was a woman strong enough to govern her own life. One may assume that this woman, penned by a man, could be labeled now as a feminist. It is possible, though, that Chaucer created this boisterous, opinionated woman not simply to assert that women are capable of being independent, but merely to show that women who attempt to do so are all as rude and coarse as she. So, her statements about life, love, and marriage may not be her own sentiments, but merely an echo of …

Swenson Poetry Award Winners

May Swenson Poetry Award Volume 10, with foreward by Edward Field. "This poet, you knew from his very first lines, didn't fall for anything phony—his own language is irresistibly no-bullshit down to earth, even sassy.... Coming from one of the ethnic, industrial cities, his work has a gritty element. He recalls all the sorrows of a life—the drunken father, the parents' divorce, his mother's death, his unremitting horniness, his own divorce—nothing special, just what we all have to deal with one way or another. And yet he ends on an almost contented note. Haywire is remarkable for being an essentially …
