Finding aid only for Manuscripts Small Collection 933. Two poems; excerpt from Who’s Who in Poetry that included one of John Orville Speed’s poems; 1970 newspaper clipping about Speed, all found in an autographed copy of his 1962 book Anecdotes and Tall Tale in Rhyme. Speed was originally from Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky, and was called the “Pennyrile Poet Laureate.”

Robert Pinsky has published nineteen volumes of poetry and prose, including a translation of Dante's Inferno, He served as U. S. Poet Laureate from 1997-2000, has won countless awards, and has been nominated for both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award. He's taught on both coasts and in Chicago, and was called "the last of the 'civic' or public poets" by the Poetry Foundation. His work has the meticulous, meditative beauty of a Japanese garden and the deliberate wit of an American East-coast native. "The word “light” evokes both a literal and metaphorical translation. Light can be a shining brightness from a light source, the shade of a figure in a drawing or painting, or an element representing an idea which must be contemplated rather than seen in order to comprehend.1 I propose that within the artwork and poetry of Michelangelo Buonarroti, as well as within the poetry of Dante Alighieri, light is not only used for pictorial and lyrical purposes but is often a metaphor representing righteousness. The Molloy Student Literary Magazine
The Molloy Student Literary Magazine, sponsored by Molloy College’s Office of Student Affairs, is devoted to publishing the best previously unpublished works of prose, poetry, drama, literary review, criticism, and other literary genres, that the Molloy student community has to offer. The journal welcomes submissions, for possible publication, from currently enrolled Molloy students at all levels. All submitted work will undergo a review process initiated by the Managing Editor prior to a decision being made regarding publication of said work. Given sufficient content, The Molloy Student Literary Magazine is published twice annually in Spring and Fall.
