The Separation And Analysis Of Titanium And Iron In The Mineral Ilmenite, Adolf M Mulokozi Jan 1975

The Separation And Analysis Of Titanium And Iron In The Mineral Ilmenite, Adolf M Mulokozi

Tanzania Journal of Science

Since the location of extensive *ilmenite-bearing beach sands in Australia, and now in Tanzania, the separation and analysis of the mineral has become more important than ever. This is particularly because ilmenite has now become the principal source of rutile, an important product in the manufacture of pigments and ceramic materials. Ion exchange separation using a mixture of HCI and HF is described in the literature. The method has serious limitations especially when the use of glassware cannot be avoided. The author has successfully applied exclusively HCI solution for the anion exchange separation. The mineral was first brought in solution …

Electrochemical Machining (Ecm) With Alternating Current, S. J. Shine Jan 1975

Electrochemical Machining (Ecm) With Alternating Current, S. J. Shine

Tanzania Journal of Science

Electrochemistry has had several practical uses in industry for a long time; but one of the more recent applications is the machining of metals. Direct current ECM has been applied in industry for the last two decades. However, ECM with alternating current is still in the early stage of research and development. This paper shows that ECM with normal a.c supply is feasible and practicable if special tools are used. ECM with d.c. is first introduced to provide a better insight for the machining with a.c.

Studies In Artificial Rain: Their Progress And Prospects, P. B. Vitta Jan 1975

Studies In Artificial Rain: Their Progress And Prospects, P. B. Vitta

Tanzania Journal of Science

The progress made by studies of the phenomenon of rain is reviewed. Several techniques for modifying clouds so as to accelerate rain-drop precipitation are described.

An Attempt To Control Boundary Layer Turbulence With Nonisotropic Compliant Walls, R. Grosskreutz Jan 1975

An Attempt To Control Boundary Layer Turbulence With Nonisotropic Compliant Walls, R. Grosskreutz

Tanzania Journal of Science

A review of turbulence production in boundary layers leads to a new approach to boundary layer control by means of nonisotropic compliant walls. Suitably constructed coatings were tested and demonstrate that the concept is basically valid.
