The Influence Of The Pennsylvania Mainline Of Public Works, Joseph A. Strausbaugh
The Influence Of The Pennsylvania Mainline Of Public Works, Joseph A. Strausbaugh
The Gettysburg Historical Journal
The Pennsylvania Mainline of Public Works, authorized and begun by Governor John Andrew Schulze in 1826, was the main transportation artery across Pennsylvania from the beginning of its operations in 1828 until the Pennsylvania Railroad purchased it in 1857. Though it was only in service for about thirty years, the Mainline was instrumental in shaping and affecting individuals, both passengers and employees of the canal; as well as Pennsylvania towns such as Saltsburg, Alexandria, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia. This in turn affected national commerce.

The Establishment Of The Pennsylvania State Board Of Law Examiners, 1895-1902, Joel Fishman
The Establishment Of The Pennsylvania State Board Of Law Examiners, 1895-1902, Joel Fishman
Law Faculty Publications
As the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania recently celebrated the one hundredth anniversary of the origins of the State Board of Law Examiners, it is useful to examine how the board came about in the early twentieth century. Pennsylvania had a long history of local county control over admission to the bar, and it was during the reform period that Pennsylvania joined with many other states to create a state board to oversee admission to its Supreme Court and tried to regulate admission to the local bars. This article will review chiefly the eighteenth and nineteenth century background to admission to the …

In Defense Of Colonel Richard P. Roberts, Commanding Officer Of The Pennsylvania 140th Regiment, Gregory Jason Bell
In Defense Of Colonel Richard P. Roberts, Commanding Officer Of The Pennsylvania 140th Regiment, Gregory Jason Bell
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Richard P. Roberts was the colonel of the Pennsylvania 140th regiment from its organization in September 1862 until his death at Gettysburg in July 1863. During this time period, Captain David Acheson of Company C fostered a “growing dislike” for the colonel that led him to portray the colonel negatively in his writings. In the first four years the Quarterly was published in June, September, December, and March and changed to …
