Proceedings of the New York State Communication Association
Honoring the Past: Are they Still Relevant?
At a time when communication technologies and patterns of interaction and dissemination change at an ever faster pace, this session explores obsolescence and continued relevance. Why study Aristotle in an age of social media? Is cursive handwriting still important? Are printed maps, newspapers and magazines now passe? Is film dead? Are normative theories obsolete? Each contributor to this article selected a particular technology, theory, founding figure and argued for or against their continued significance.

American Media Depiction Of Terrorism In The U.S After September 11 Attacks, Maria Thuy Trinh
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this dissertation was to analyze perceptions of terrorism through the analysis of two newspapers’ news coverage of terrorism after the September 11 attacks, a popular Kentucky newspaper, the Courier-Journal and the New York Times (NYT). The social construction of terrorism was reflected as a problem through moral panics or something that a society believed as wrong that needed to be eradicated. Previous research had found that newspapers have contributed to moral panics by exaggerating the scope of social problems such as school shootings. I used the theoretical framework of moral panics; Goode and Ben-Yehuda’s (2009) two criteria …

Print Media And Their Role In The Preservation Of Cultural Heritage Until The 30'S Of The Xx Century, Nexhat Cocaj
UBT International Conference
After the opening of the first Albanian school and after the congresses for language and education, respectively of Bitola and Elbasan in 1909, there was an immediate need for the press of the time, although small at the beginning, to deal with other topics for the cultural heritage of Albanians throughout the Albanian space. A key role in this regard was played by newspapers and magazines, which until 1913 were published abroad and then began to be published in Albania. The national cultural movement of 1908 - 1912, took place under the rule of the young Turks, but in relation …
