This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "Employment of Black and Hispanic Police Officers," by Sam Walker.
Employment of black and Hispanic police officers in the 50 largest cities in the United States falls short of desirable levels. For both racial groups, employment levels are only half of a hypothetical ideal level. Only two of 50 police departments have achieved a high level of equal employment opportunity compliance with respect to both racial groups. Several police departments have made significant progress in minority employment in recent years, either as a result of voluntary or court-ordered affirmative action plans. …

This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "A Study of Mandated Technology Adoption," by Peter C. Young.
The Wyoming State Legislature in 1980 enacted the Uniform Municipal Fiscal Procedures Act (UMFPA). Among other things, UMFPA established specific guidelines for conformance to uniform fiscal procedures for first class cities in Wyoming.1 Of significance to this study were the requirements for use of a standardized chart of accounts and the adoption of generally accepted accounting procedures.

This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "Signs of Revitalization Adjacent to the CBD," by R. K. Piper.
Over the last five years, the central business district (CBD) in Omaha has shown visible and dramatic signs of revitalization through significant investments by both the public and private sectors. The new Central Park Mall in the core of the CBD has been a focal point for redevelopment. It is bounded by the new construction of a state office and education facility, the regional corporate headquarters for Northwestern Bell, the Central Park Plaza office complex and parking garage, and considerable …

This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "An Economic Profile of the Omaha Office Space Market," by Donald A. Nielsen.
During the first half of the twentieth century, the distance between residence and worksite tended to increase in most American cities for white collar office workers and managers. This was due to increases in real income, improvements in transportation networks, and the increased availability of the auto· mobile to the middle income class, all of which correlated with the purchase of new homes in the suburbs. Traditionally, the journey to work took the labor force from their homes …

This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "Omaha Residential Sales Patterns, 1978-81," by Jack Ruff.
During the past few years, real estate markets have . undergone many adjustments. High interest rates, inflation, and competition for investment capital necessitated major changes. On a national level, the subject of housing sales has received considerable commentary. The ability of sellers in Omaha to exchange their units has probably been curtailed as well. This study attempts to examine real estate listings within the Omaha/Douglas County Multiple Listing Service areas (see Map 1) and describe some of the changes.

This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "Omaha Area Income Change, 1969-1979," by David R. DiMartino, compilation and cartography by Chris Wayne and Tim Himberger.
The United States' Census of Population and Housing records several measures of income and wealth in order to determine the economic well-being of the nation and its citizens. Among the real measures recorded for the 1980 Census were per capita (individual) income, family income, household income, income type, poverty status, mortgage costs, housing value, and contract rent. The income and wealth figures were self-reported and, therefore, rely upon the accuracy of those disclosing …

This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "UNO's Economic Impact on the Omaha SMSA," by Murray Frost and Rebecca S. Fahrlander.
This study measured the immediate economic impact of the University of Nebraska at Omaha on the Omaha Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area 1 in 1980-81. It focused only on the expenditures of the university itself, its faculty and staff, students, and visitors, and the multiplicative effect resulting from the spending of those dollars within the local economy. It did not examine more long-range or indirect economic impacts-e.g., the impact of the presence of the university upon the area's …
