Influences Of The Western Press On News Framing Of Global Events In Developing Countries: Examining Covid-19 And Climate Coverage In A Bangladeshi News Organization, Arif Md Tareque Habib
Communication ETDs
This study shows that a small number of Western news organizations (e.g., Reuters, The New York Times) may influence how local news organizations in developing countries frame global crises and that this influence may lead local news organizations to ignore locally relevant aspects of those crises. To test this thesis, two studies were conducted on the coverage of two crises -- COVID-19 and climate change -- by a news organization in Bangladesh, a developing country in South Asia. The news organization, www.bdnews24.com, serves both as a news agency or news supplier for local newspapers and an online newspaper for users. …

Developments In The News Media Privilege: The Qualified Constitutional Approach Becoming Common Law, Lawerence J. Mullen
Developments In The News Media Privilege: The Qualified Constitutional Approach Becoming Common Law, Lawerence J. Mullen
Maine Law Review
In late 1977 and early 1978, the Boston Globe published a series of articles about a Delaware corporation engaged in building fiberglass boats in New Hampshire. The articles reported a number of allegedly serious defects in the boats, some of which may have contributed to sinkings. Provoked by this quotidien instance of investigative journalism, the boat builder brought a libel action against the Globe in federal district court. The boat builder's …

The Monday Manure, Zachary David Berston
The Monday Manure, Zachary David Berston
Journalism
For my senior project, I wanted to create a new section of Mustang News that includes satire and cartoons. The section is called the Monday Manure to fit with the horse themed titles of other sections. This idea began as a project in the Media Innovation and Entrepreneurship class. While I initially had the idea to have a section that included games, I realized that it was a bit too ambitious after discussing that with the team at Mustang news. Over the course of this project, I have created several satire articles and cartoons, as well as organizing a team …
