Igm-Induced Tumor Cell Cytotoxicity Mediated By Normal Thymocytes, E. W. Lamon, H. D. Whitten, Bodil Lidin, H. H. Fudenberg Aug 1975

Igm-Induced Tumor Cell Cytotoxicity Mediated By Normal Thymocytes, E. W. Lamon, H. D. Whitten, Bodil Lidin, H. H. Fudenberg

MUSC Faculty Journal Articles

Adult murine hosts undergoing induction and regression of primary Moloney sarcoma virus (MSV) tumors develop antibodies (1-3) and lymphocytes (4-6) which have activity in vitro against Moloney leukemia virus (MLV)-determined cell surface antigens on the tumor target cells (7). Antibodies which are able to lyse the appropriate virus-induced tumor target cells in the presence of complement appear in two peaks with respect to time after MSV injection (1). The first peak occurs in the early tumor-bearing animals 10-15 days after MSV (1). This is followed by a drop in the antibody titers in early regressors whereafter the antibodies rise and …

Effects Of Unilateral Ablation Of The Optic Nerve In Feral Mus Musculus, Otha Ray Rains Jr. Jan 1974

Effects Of Unilateral Ablation Of The Optic Nerve In Feral Mus Musculus, Otha Ray Rains Jr.

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The general organization and 'function of the vertebrate visual system has been under Investigation since the late nineteenth century (Gudden, lS7Qa, Gudden, 1870b). The organization of optic tracts and subcortical optic centers for the majority of vertebrates studied are found to be similar in both structure and function (Gudden, 1870a, Gudden, 1870b, Minkowski, 1913» Minkowski, 1920, and Lashley, 193^a). The sense organ, the eye, contains specific photoreceptor cells designated as either retinal rods or retinal cones. These two types of retinal cells possess an ability to convert light quanta into nerve impulses. The nerve impulses are transmitted via the optic …

Generality Of Learning Differences In Mice Genetically Selected For Differences In Brain Weight, Craig Jensen Jan 1974

Generality Of Learning Differences In Mice Genetically Selected For Differences In Brain Weight, Craig Jensen

Graduate Dissertations and Theses

Mice selected for high, medium, and low brain weight were raised in an enriched environment and tested on open field, active avoidance, water maze, operant discrimination, and passive avoidance tasks. Mice from one foundation stock yielded mice with high and low brain weight. The control groups for this selection were composed of one group of medium brain weight mice subjected to stabilizing selection and a heterogeneous group of mice which was not subjected to any selection. The mice in the two control groups were derived from the same foundation stock as the high and low brain weight mice. In addition, …

Lasting Biological Effects Of Early Influences, René Dubos

MCV/Q, Medical College of Virginia Quarterly

In conclusion: The environment does more than affect our well-being in the here and now. It molds the young, physically and mentally, and thereby determines almost irreversibly their future and the evolution of society.

Anticoagulants For The Control Of Rats And Mice, C D. Gooding Jan 1963

Anticoagulants For The Control Of Rats And Mice, C D. Gooding

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

LATELY there have been many requests for information on suitable poisons to use in baiting rats and mice.

Most enquirers have stated that they "tried a certain brand of bait" and found that the rats only "ate it up and kept coming back for more."

This article on Warfarin—as a rat and mouse poison—is presented to clear up some of the problems of rodent poisoning.

Rats And Mice And Their Control, C D. Gooding, J. L. Long Jan 1960

Rats And Mice And Their Control, C D. Gooding, J. L. Long

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

BEFORE colonisation by the white man, Australia contained over 50 species of rats and mice.

Although several of these native species have been known to breed to plague proportions they are normally slower breeders than the introduced species.

Once settlement had been established on our shores it was only a matter of time before the introduction of more of these pests, occurred probably from the British Isles.
