School Leadership Insights And Practices: Understanding Bullying Prevention Strategies Among Educational Teachers In Private And Public Schools Across The Uae, Wissal Mohsen

Thesis/ Dissertation Defenses

This thesis investigates the detrimental effects of bullying on students, including impacts on their mental health, academic performance, and overall well-being. Addressing this issue necessitates a proactive strategy involving school leaders, teachers, and parents. Data were collected through a questionnaire, with selected items employing a 5-point Likert scale and others utilizing a multiple-choice format. Analysis was conducted using SPSS software, encompassing statistical tests such as descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, t tests, and logistic binary regression. The t test indicated that leadership practices implemented to prevent bullying in both public and private schools were highly effective and statistically significant (p < .05). This research contributes to understanding how school leadership and teacher involvement influence the efficacy of bullying prevention strategies. By incorporating quantitative methodologies, the study provides a comprehensive examination of school policies, bullying awareness initiatives, and reporting systems. Findings highlight the importance of adopting context-specific approaches to bolster bullying prevention efforts within schools. Future research combining qualitative and quantitative analyses may yield deeper insights into real-world challenges encountered in bullying intervention strategies, thereby bridging the gap between policy formulation and practical implementation to ensure anti-bullying programs are effective and culturally relevant.

Mental Health Courts: An Assessment Of Eligibility Criteria, Service Characteristics, And Public Opinion, Emily Suiter

Theses and Dissertations

Mental health courts, a type of specialty court targeting justice-involved persons with mental illness, have become prominent across the United States. Using a therapeutic jurisprudence approach, these courts largely operate independently with no guiding framework, leading to varied practices. Additionally, public opinion on mental health courts is unknown, causing potential problems as these courts are rapidly expanding and funded, at least partially, through taxpayer dollars. Chapter One of this dissertation provides a framework for the remainder of the dissertation. Chapter Two is a detailed literature review of relevant theories and past research regarding mental health courts. Chapters Three and Four …

Assisted Outpatient Treatment: A State-By-State Comparative Review, E. Lea Johnston, Autumn Klein

Cleveland State Law Review

Assisted outpatient treatment, otherwise known as preventive outpatient commitment, is rapidly expanding across the United States, aiming to address mental health needs and reduce homelessness, hospital costs, and community violence. Since 2019, fifteen preventive outpatient commitment statutes have been passed or expanded. These statutes, which authorize courts to mandate community treatment for nondangerous individuals with mental illnesses, have evaded close scrutiny, rest on misconceptions, and raise significant constitutional concerns. An analysis of legislative debates, court opinions, and scholarship reveals a fundamental misunderstanding about the prevalence of these laws, which contributes to their speedy passage. Additionally, no analysis exists of these …

Sexuality: Issues In Adulthood, Taylor D. Michl, Amanda Kracen

Essays in Developmental Psychology

Human sexuality in Western cultures is generally comprised of emotional intimacy, sexual identity, and sexual behavior. Sex is understood and experienced differently by people as aspects of identity (e.g., culture, race, class, gender, ability, size, religion, sexual identity) affect sexuality. Although engaging in sex is not necessary for a fulfilling life, the majority of adults in the U.S. participate in sexual activity, and regular sexual activity correlates with improved mental health (Brody, 2010).
