Validity Of Dyscalculia Module For Pupils With Dyscalculia, Yoong Soo May
Validity Of Dyscalculia Module For Pupils With Dyscalculia, Yoong Soo May
Journal of ICSAR
There are three types of specific learning disorders, namely dyscalculia, dyslexia, and dysgraphia. Pupils with dyscalculia facing difficulties in acquiring basic arithmetic skills. Dyscalculia Module has been designed and developed for pupils with dyscalculia to learn basic arithmetic skills. The purpose of this study is to measure the validity of Dyscalculia Module among pupils with dyscalculia in basic arithmetic skills. Expert validation was carried out to measure the face validity, content validity, and activities suitability of Dyscalculia Module. Three experts in language were invited to evaluate the face validity, whereas nine experts in the field of special education, learning difficulties, …

Not every student gets a learning system that suits their abilities. Therefore, teachers need to know the stages of modifying the curriculum so that it is according to the abilities of students. This study aims to find the stages of modifying the Merdeka Curriculum at the elementary school level in the form of a learning program design in mathematics into fractional material that is adapted to the needs of students with learning disabilities. The research was conducted using the Research and Development research method, the development model carried out in this study used the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, …

Preparing Elementary Preservice Teachers For Inquiry-Based Science And Mathematics Instruction Through A Novel Initiative, Tye Campbell, Diandra Singh, Cathlene Hillier, J-F, Haleigh Sears
Teacher Education and Leadership Faculty Publications
Over the past several decades, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners have placed an emphasis on inquiry-based science and mathematics instruction in elementary school. While inquiry-based science and mathematics instruction can support student learning and engagement, teacher preparation programs have experienced challenges in preparing elementary teachers to use and maintain inquiry-based teaching practices. In this study, we describe how one teacher preparation program in Canada partnered with a local elementary school to design a novel initiative that provided elementary preservice teachers with authentic opportunities to employ inquiry-based instructional practices for science and mathematics. Using a thematic approach, we explored 46 elementary preservice …

Pre-Calculus: Thinking Deeply About Simple Things, Jacob Carter
Graduate Research Showcase
“Pre-Calculus: Thinking Deeply About Simple Things” is a research-based creative endeavor focused on designing a high-school pre-calculus course. This course aims to foster deep, meaningful thinking, as well as an appreciation of the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the math classroom. The course leverages students’ funds of knowledge to employ culturally responsive teaching methods to connect mathematical concepts to the students’ backgrounds, interests, and real-life situations. This course also integrates social-emotional learning to create an engaging and supportive learning environment for all students. By combining Peter Liljedahl’s “Building Thinking Classroom in Mathematics” approach with problem-based learning, the course …
Assessing The Relationship Between Contralateral Limb Synergy And Rock Climbing Efficiency, Jeromy Miramontes
Assessing The Relationship Between Contralateral Limb Synergy And Rock Climbing Efficiency, Jeromy Miramontes
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Rock climbing is a total body sport testing the mental and physical capabilities of athletes. Efficiency of movement can improve the ability of climbers to perform at a higher capacity and reduce the risk of injury. Data on the relationship between the continuous relative phase (CRP) of contralateral joint rotations and time to completion of a bouldering move are ways to assess rock climbing. This study aimed to assess this relationship, as well as the geometric entropy (GE) of the center of mass displacement when completing the bouldering move, and the metabolic efficiency over 4 min of bouldering. The study …

DOES PATH MATTER: A QUANTITATIVE STUDY EXAMINING MATHEMATICS COURSE-TAKING PATTERNS AND DEGREE OR TRANSFER ATTAINMENT
Abstract
This quantitative study, guided by Bean and Metzner’s (1985) student attrition model, examined whether mathematics course-taking pattern is associated with a students’ chances of attaining degree or transfer at a community college. Six years of student data from a midwestern community college was used. Descriptive statistics of student course-taking patterns highlighted that more full-time and college level students enrolled in mathematics immediately while part-time and developmental level students delayed their enrollment in mathematics coursework. Contradicting assumptions at the midwestern community college under study, it …
A Quantitative Study On The Relationship Between Corequisite Support Courses And College Algebra Success, Kathleen Almy
A Quantitative Study On The Relationship Between Corequisite Support Courses And College Algebra Success, Kathleen Almy
Dissertations of Practice
Corequisite support courses have been used as an intervention in higher education to improve gateway college math course completion and reduce the time necessary to do so. While a substantial amount of research on the effectiveness of corequisite support exists, it has largely focused on non-STEM courses. This study was designed to further investigate the effectiveness of corequisite support courses but in the context of STEM courses like College Algebra. Specifically, the study explored the role of taking a corequisite version of College Algebra, with and without the consideration of a student’s initial placement, on both the probability of passing …
