Large Word Squares In Latin, Eric Tentarelli
Large Word Squares In Latin, Eric Tentarelli
Word Ways
Large word squares have been pursued in many languages, but large word squares in Latin appear to have remained unexplored, despite the form's origins in ancient Rome and despite the benefits offered by Latin inflectional endings. New word squares constructed in Latin are shown to surpass in size those created in other languages to date, most notably by attaining the holy grail of logology: the first known non-tautonymic ten-squares consisting entirely of solid, uncapitalized words in a single language. Additional results, also consisting entirely of solid, uncapitalized Latin words, include double eight-squares, a double nine-square, and eleven-squares.

Study On Gender Biased Language Usage In Spanish Secondary Learning Regulations, Manuel A. Bejarano Bache
UBT International Conference
Currently, Society past mistakes about gender discrimination are being recognized. Social and civic strife are achieving to take out barriers, pre-established by means of hard pressure and control from male chauvinism. One of these barriers is that which is set through non-inclusive and sexist language, frequently biasing the message to the masculine sector, neglecting or keeping women down or on invisibility. This language is widely used and we can see it nowadays in official administrative documents. In spite of to-the-change tendency which is important and realizable, and the hard efforts which are being carried out, incomplete attempts to carry out …

Easy In Any Language: Syntax, Semantics, And Pragmatics Of Activity-Oriented Adjectives In Six Languages, David Koffman
Easy In Any Language: Syntax, Semantics, And Pragmatics Of Activity-Oriented Adjectives In Six Languages, David Koffman
Master's Theses
Words that denote the degree of effort required for some activity, called easy adjectives here, have distinctive behavior. This behavior is explored in six languages to determine how the semantics of these words is reflected in the expressions to which they can apply, the constructions in which they appear, and their use in discourse. For four Indo-European languages, English, Spanish, German, and Russian, the analysis is based on random samples from linguistic corpora. For two non-Indo-European languages, Japanese and Swahili, the analysis is based on consultant elicitations and published examples. The analysis confirms that easy adjectives have distinctive behavior compared …

I reflect on how those experiences influenced the transformation and performance of my teaching identity and shaped my humor-based pedagogy for Composition and Introductory Linguistics courses. The work is considering the effects of humor on my linguistic and cultural competences as well as my teaching practice. Along with that, the work provides an overview of scholarship on humor in education and the ways practicing academics utilize humor in their teaching and teaching identities. To reflect on how and why …
