Aids Coalition To Unleash Power: Changing Through Movement, Leadership, And Internet Capabilities, Kendra Mary Blythin

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

The examination of AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP) past and present shows a vivid and often extreme organization, branching from Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC). Both groups were formed by Larry Kramer, who has played a large role in the gay liberation movement in the United States. This study provides a map of the decline of ACT UP with regards to the decline in public fear of AIDS, the resulting decline in public interest, and the ineffective leadership strategies of Larry Kramer. In addition, this study offers a hypothesis for better exposure; a possible symbiotic effect between the …

Developing Leadership Through Self-Empowerment, Anup K Singh Jul 1998

Developing Leadership Through Self-Empowerment, Anup K Singh

IIMB Management Review

Leadership is probably the most desirable managerial attribute but one that is seriously lacking in most organisations. While managers do a good job of maintaining and sustaining existing organisational systems, they fail to steer innovation and transformational change. Today, while the literature on the subject helps managers appreciate the dynamics of leadership, it is short on insights on how to develop oneself as an effective leader of people. Beginning with the nature of leadership and various approaches to leadership development, Anup Singh emphasises the primacy of selfempowerment and self-reprogramming in realising one's leadership potential and presents certain techniques that can …

When "Reason" Is In The Eye Of The Beholder: A Reexamination Of The "Reasonable Man" Standard As Applied To Organizational Management, James R. Jones

Marketing and Management Faculty Proceedings & Presentations

“Specifically, issues of race, gender, disability, status, etc. provide a new context in which to judge the reasonableness of an individual’s actions.” The concept of the "reasonable man" is one of long standing in the legal profession of the United States. As the United States has become an increasingly polyglot society, the need to reexamine the sufficiency of a single "reasonable man" standard is clear. Specifically, issues of race, gender, disability status, etc. provide a new context in which to judge the reasonableness of an individual's actions.

Straight To The Heart: Cleveland Leaders Shaping The Next Millennium, Shawana P. Johnson

Student Scholarship

While touring the Frascati vineyards outside ofRome with a business associate and as we learned the basic techniques of winemaking, our in-between conversation was focused on the difficulties and change our industry and his country were facing. We pondered and discussed our positions and responsibilities for our organization. during this time. We were well aware of the many industry challenges facing us and our board ofdirectors. It was upon reflection ofthat conversation and the memory of that beautiful scenario of those luscious vineyards that it struck me how similar the management ofthe fruit·ofthe grapevine is to the management of organizations. …

Use Of Leadership Practices By The Managers And Their Impact On The Job Satisfaction Of Employees In The Hotel Industry, Jasvir Singh

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

The purpose of this exploratory study was to determine the differences, if any, between leadership practices used by hotel managers and the perceptions of those leadership practices by employees relative to their job satisfaction. Differences in perception of leadership practices were measured using two identical instruments--one for managers, and the other for their employees.
