Assessing The Effectiveness Of Micro-Level Poverty Interventions In The Highlands Of Guatemala, Jacqueline A. Castro

Despite immense efforts of poverty alleviation in the Western highlands of Guatemala, poverty is intense and widespread. Amidst an abundant array of poverty interventions, existing evidence on those interventions are not sufficient. Highlighting basic knowledge regarding impact evaluations, this paper aims to determine the most effective poverty intervention for the Western highland areas of Guatemala. Focusing on impact evaluations, this paper reviews 17 Latin American interventions, paying close attention to what may be applicable to this region. Using only the highest quality data from Latin America, it is clear that cash transfers and graduation programs are the most impactful interventions …

This thesis aims to analyze the representation of the Latino undocumented immigrant in Spanish language music. The migratory process through which the undocumented immigrant will pass on his/her way to the United States will be examined. In this work, the mentioned migratory process will be considered to consist of three stages. The first will consist of the migrants life before they arrive at the decision to emigrate, the second will entail the journey, and the last will involve the migrants life in the country to which he/she immigrates. Since the formation of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in 1949, China’s political leaders have given priority to securing the country’s sovereignty, national unification, and territorial integrity. This has involved pursuing foreign relations that contribute to an international environment that is conducive to the country’s peaceful development as a prosperous socialist society. In this study, the subject matter evaluated is the difference between the United States and Latin America concerning the practice and acceptance of servant leadership. This research compares the practice and the acceptance of servant leadership between the United States of America and Latin America. In order to do this, a cross-cultural comparison was conducted between these two groups. The following research sheds light on explanatory causes behind the policy decision of an oil rich states to engage in oil-for-loans agreements with China using Ecuador as a case study (2009-2014). The study presents alternative hypotheses that explain this policy outcome from a Latin American perspective and looks at national responses to China’s increasing engagement in the region. China’s quest for oil in particular has ignited a controversial debate over the nature of its objectives in the international oil market and the growing engagement of its national companies in the Western Hemisphere.
