Ec-Funded Mine Action In Latin America Volume 2 - Country Reports, Russell Gasser
Global CWD Repository
The EC Anti-Personnel Landmine Regulation of 2001 mandated evaluations of EC Mine Action strategy every three years. The first report was a Global Evaluation published in 2005, but this report forms one part of the 2008 evaluation by regions and covers Latin America, 2002-2007.
Total EC funding for mine action in Latin America in the period 2002-2007 was about 8 million euros, roughly 2% of the EC total world wide budget for mine action. Sixty-eight percent of the eight million euros was from the dedicated thematic Anti-Personnel Landmine budget line and 31% was from the geographic budget for Colombia. There …

There has been an explosion in the past ten to fifteen years of bilateral and regional free trade agreements in Latin America (together, preferential free trade agreements or PTAs). The purpose of PTAs is to increase trade, regulatory, and investment liberalization. As trade liberalization requires more than just a reduction of tariffs, PTAs include "chapters" in a number of areas of domestic regulation. These chapters that address domestic regulation create binding commitments to liberalize domestic regulation that may impact foreign trade. Among chapters that address domestic regulation, many of the Latin American PTAs include a chapter on antitrust or competition …

Draft For The Energy Policy Of The Republic Of Haiti, Bureau Des Mines Et De L'Energie
Latin American Energy Dialogue, White Papers and Reports
Due to the fact that Haiti faces several years in a major energy crisis, largely due to the lack of a national energy policy expressing a coherent vision and objectives and clear guidance, this document was made to fill this need. In particular it targets the status of the country's energy independence, the source of energy sources and the distribution of consumption; the level of access to energy resources and delivery standards; conservation actions and control of environmental effects; and the incentives to stimulate the energy market. It also promotes research and development operations of renewable energy resources available in …
United States Cold War Policy, The Peace Corps And Its Volunteers In Colombia In The 1960s., John James
United States Cold War Policy, The Peace Corps And Its Volunteers In Colombia In The 1960s., John James
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
John F. Kennedy initiated the Peace Corps in 1961 at the height of the Cold War to provide needed manpower and promote understanding with the underdeveloped world. This study examines Peace Corps work in Colombia during the 1960s within the framework of U.S. Cold War policy. It explores the experiences of volunteers in Colombia and contrasts their accounts with Peace Corps reports and presentations to Congress. It intends to show the agency's assessment of volunteer work and how it compares to the volunteers' views and Congressional reports. Although the Peace Corps presented some topics and themes expressed by volunteers, the …
