Framing U.S.-Venezuelan Relations Under Bush And Chávez: Origins Of A Country In Crisis, Rashaunna Campbell

Communication

Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves in the world and is the third largest source of U.S. petroleum, but today it is a country in crisis. Moreover, relations between the U.S. and Venezuela shifted dramatically under the Bush and Chávez administrations. This contentious relationship along with Venezuela’s ongoing political, economic, and humanitarian crises have resulted in a repressive government, hyperinflation, starvation, mortality, and mass emigration from the country. Based on the theory that international news coverage is influenced by the experiences and attitudes of people from different nations and regions, this study compared domestic and Latin American news coverage …

How Have Tv News Reporters’ Duties Changed In The Past 15 Years?, Katy Harris

Television news reporting has undergone a period of tremendous change during the rise of the Internet. Also, economic pressures to downsize the newsroom, technological advancements, and social media have turned the traditional reporter into a multi-media journalist. This project will discuss the actual technical and rhetorical choices made in the production of short newsroom documentary. This study explains the transition from the traditional news reporting style of reporter and cameraman teaming up …

How Has Sports Journalism Been Forced To Adapt To Twitter?, Landon Stamper

Senior Theses

This paper seeks to analyze case studies, prior research and tweets to understand the impact Twitter has had on the field of sports journalism. I am looking at this impact through the lenses of breaking news, speed, content, expanded dissemination and gatekeeping. This portfolio is a compilation of my written and published work during my time as a Duquesne student, whether completed in class or for an internship. My portfolio, filled with articles focusing on a wide range of genres and topics, offers a glimpse into the life of a journalist, as well as the media field in general.

While it is essential for a journalism student to study the laws, ethics, theories and concepts behind journalism, its importance and its history, we must also go out into the world and report. How can one become a successful journalist without actually reporting …

Supreme Court Journalism: From Law To Spectacle?, Barry Sullivan, Cristina Carmody Tilley

Washington and Lee Law Review

Few people outside certain specialized sectors of the press and the legal profession have any particular reason to read the increasingly voluminous opinions through which the Justices of the Supreme Court explain their interpretations of the Constitution and laws. Most of what the public knows about the Supreme Court necessarily comes from the press. That fact raises questions of considerable importance to the functioning of our constitutional democracy: How, for example, does the press describe the work of the Supreme Court? And has the way in which the press describes the work of the Court changed over the past several …

Tasked with one job—crush the …
