This study is an examination of the methods and practices applied in the delivery of training in enterprise start-up initiatives. It aims to identify an enterprising approach to learning which can be applied to instill enterprise successfully in enterprise founders. The key questions intrinsic to this research are: to determine the efficacy of the strategies employed by the various stakeholders to infuse entrepreneurial learning throughout the entire programme; and to determine if entrepreneurial learning has a positive impact on the entrepreneurial mind-set and behaviour of participants of enterprise start-up initiatives.

Many lecturers of mathematics and related disciplines in Ireland and internationally believe there has been a gradual decline in mathematical competencies of students presenting for first year at third level educational establishments. Some of the evidence to support this view is reviewed, along with the types of solutions being applied in Ireland and the UK. Attention is drawn to the explicit and implicit decline in standards potentially associated with some of the solutions, particularly for short courses involving mathematics.

Several distinct ideologies have emerged from feminist theory. However, insofar as feminist ideologies differ, they agree in their recognition that women are essentially oppressed. It is in their explanation as to why oppression occurs and how they propose to combat it that differences arise. Competing ideological perspectives and consequent views on issues such as prostitution and sex work have splintered feminist thinking for decades. This paper discusses the two dominant feminist positions, liberal feminism and radical feminism and reviews their differing perspectives which are especially influential in the Irish prostitution and sex work debate. The aim of this paper is to investigate spatial patterns of crime in Ireland to develop a better theoretical understanding of the role of geography and opportunity, as well as enabling practical crime prevention solutions that are tailored to specific places. The analysis uses crime data sourced from the Central Statistics Office to analyse crime concentration for a range of crime categories using alternative measures of concentration. The findings of this paper indicate that crime concentrates in particular places in Ireland. Ross Island Copper Mine, located in Killarney National Park, Killarney, Ireland, is known for archeological artifacts of copper from the Bronze Age. Copper production surged in the late 1700s and into the mid-1800s. The mine included both open pits (e.g. Blue Hole) and underground excavations (e.g. Western Mine). Copper veins were found in the Mississippian-aged limestone bedrock along with chalcopyrite and tennantite ore. In 1912, tourism had become the main source of income in the area, and the mines and the land surrounding them were remediated and became a part of the national park. After studying abroad in Ireland, infection control rates were compared to that of the USA.Through experiences with Irish nursing faculty and nurses, we learned about, as well as observed, the differing and innovative methods for infection control. The clinical differences between each country were analyzed alongside healthcare associated infections. The goals of this project are to shed light on the variability of infection control approaches from the USA and Ireland and how these procedures affect the actual rates of infection in each country.

Resulting from the regions' rich array of cultures, history, and beautiful landscapes, Dingle, Ireland has become a popular tourist destination within recent years. With tourism only expected to rise in coming years, it is imperative that actions be taken to ensure the persistence of these natural ecosystems and traditions. This research project utilized geographic information systems (GIS) to analyze the Dingle Harbor and Ballyferriter watersheds. The Dingle Harbor and Ballyferriter watersheds are both similar in size and composition of their coastal ecosystems, but the differences between the two are noteworthy. Parasites are ubiquitous throughout nature and can have dramatic effects on their hosts. Although much is known about the pathology of parasites, the environmental factors influencing the distribution and abundance of parasites are poorly understood. Investigations into these factors could help predict the effect of parasites on the functioning of ecosystems. The limpet Patella vulgata is a key grazer on European rocky shores and is the first intermediate host for the trematode parasite, Echinostephilla patellae. The article provides a case of community safety based upon an evaluative study of an community safety intervention in the south-west Dublin suburb of Tallaght. Characteristic of the Irish context for crime prevention and community safety has been the ad hoc nature of policy formation and the underdeveloped structures for urban security. Research conducted in this study examined women’s empowerment through a comparison of case studies in Northern Ireland and Ecuador. The objective was to explore the approaches and effectiveness these programs have towards empowering women. A review of existing literature assisted the researcher in defining and conceptualizing empowerment, thereby creating a framework in which empowerment could occur. Past research indicated that empowerment groups throughout the world addressed such issues as economic, social, and gender equality. For example, producer co-operatives have enabled farmers to gain a superior price for their produce rather than dealing with middlemen (Tucker, 1983). This article critically considers the representation of death within the song tradition of modern Irish Republicanism. I explore how such representations have changed in parallel with the various ideological metamorphoses that Irish Republicanism has undergone, specifically in the twentieth century. I argue that the centrality of self-sacrifice has resulted in the development of ballad narratives that deliberately obfuscate on the issue of Republican violence, resulting in the deaths of all Republican militants (regardless of cause or context), ultimately portrayed as a form of heroic self-martyrdom.

This paper investigates the effects of public debt and distortionary labour taxation on the long-run behaviour of Irish relative non-traded goods prices. We highlight that higher public debt, acting through higher taxes, has an equivocal impact on the relative supply of non-traded goods and, correspondingly, relative prices. Our empirical analysis for Ireland suggests that taxes and public debt play significant roles in the long run, comoving negatively with the relative price of non-tradables. Accordingly, shifts in public debt and taxation bear implications for the country’s international price competitiveness.

his paper analyses the strength of the new laws regulating lobbying in Ireland and the United Kingdom (UK). This examination was conducted using the Centre for Public Integrity’s (CPI) ‘Hired Guns’ quantitative method for assessing the stringency of lobbying legislation. These laws were introduced, after years of unfulfilled promises and scandals, in an effort to increase the public’s trust in their representative institutions. We find that the Irish Regulation of Lobbying Act 2015 offers a slightly higher level of transparency than the UK’s Transparency of Lobbying, Non-Party Campaigning and Trade Union Administration Act 2014. Irish physical-force Republicanism has long been noted for its tendency to promote the tropes of martyrdom and immortality as core tenets of its ideological belief system. This essay sets out to examine the genre of Republican death ballads so as to identify how such essentialist concepts are represented and promoted within the attendant song tradition.
