Maritime Terrorism, Richard Farrell
Maritime Terrorism, Richard Farrell
Naval War College Review
As groups prepare to memorialize the sixth anniversary of 9/11, Americans seem to have forgotten that terrorism has long had a prominent role in American history. Geoffrey Blainey describes American anarchists and assassins in the 1900s who were the equivalent of modern suicide bombers.1 Blainey re- minds us that terrorism killed an American president (William McKinley) in 1901, a hundred years before 9/11.

Children's Book and Media Review
Lada and Radu are siblings, children of the Wallachian prince, but they couldn’t be more different. Where Lada wraps herself in layers of anger and stark realism, Radu is kind and sensitive. When they are sent to the Ottoman Empire as pawns in a political game, Lada is furious, but Radu is open to the new culture, particularly the religion of Islam. The siblings find common ground in Mehmed, the third son of the sultan. Lada creates a fiercely passionate and loyal relationship with him while Radu harbors strong, forbidden feelings for Mehmed. When Mehmed becomes heir to the throne …

‘Horror of my Life’ is a poem about the atrocities that took place during the holocaust in Germany and parts of Europe. The Nazi party successfully conquered and opened several concentration camps, imprisoning the Jewish people. The poem follows a chronological order of how the Nazi party slowly implemented hate, and forced the Jewish people to be different from the Aryan society created by Hitler. A decade after the night of the broken glasses, eighty four percent of Jews from Germany were in concentration camp.

The Strategic Implications Of Obscurants, Thomas J. Culora
The Strategic Implications Of Obscurants, Thomas J. Culora
Naval War College Review
Throughout history, smoke has been used in various forms to obscure naval forces at sea. During prominent naval battles in the twentieth century, from Jutland in World War I to the U.S. Navy’s clash with imperial Japanese forces off Leyte in 1944, smoke literally contributed to “the fog of war” and added to the complexity and confusion of battle.1 But is there a role for smoke or other obscurants at sea in the radar-saturated, cyber-linked maritime environment of the twenty-first century? And what, if any, are the strategic implications of obscurants? This article will explore the latter question, leaving the …

Power And Prestige: Progressive Membership In Morristown, New Jersey, Erich Morgan Huhn
Power And Prestige: Progressive Membership In Morristown, New Jersey, Erich Morgan Huhn
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
At the turn of the nineteenth century the social, political, and economic foundations of American society began to shift. Old families lost influence to the wealthy new “Robber Barons” while professionals lost prestige as their work increasingly became subsumed within a growing corporate structure. As a result, Progressive politics sought to shake up the system in an attempt to both help modernize archaic systems and reinforce old power structures.
In the case of the Civic Association of Morristown the members from old families and newcomers with professional backgrounds joined forces to secure power and prestige on what they saw as …
